  1. I just got off the phone with CS...they had absolutely no clue what I was talking about. I directed them to the press release, and said she said she had heard absolutely nothing. She almost didn't believe they would be providing wifi routers.

So I guess we will need to wait a little more...maybe I will tweet Marcelo and ask him.

From my experience at the call center, this is how things worked:

    • Press release sent out 9am
    • Tech website report at 9:30am
    • Internal reference website updated at 11am with press release and nothing else
    • Customers begin calling.

"Uh, what are you asking about???? Oh, heres the release, we know as much as you do!"

    • Internal email goes out at maybe 4pm if the supervisors have been getting a ton fo questions. Essentially links to internal page.
    • Next day or so, internal reference website updated with actual details.
    • Two weeks later, mandatory training on new feature or policy.

Keep in mind any call centers reps are given zero free times to browse information on their own.

If your shift starts at 9am, you need to be talking to a customer at 9:02am (the two minutes it to allow log in and opening of software).

  2. How much?

On hd radio.com they are $50 to $4k

    I bought this unit

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/insignia-hd-radio-tabletop-radio-black/4635744.p?id=1218505477073

The speakers are crap, so I bought a standalone speaker set for it, and together it sounds fantastic.

Reception is fine. It actually comes with two antennas, the attached rod, and a string version that actually works better.

Also, almost no cars come with HD Radio standard. You need to get the super expensive version of the line for them to make it standard. Its ridiculous

  3. I bought a home unit for my mom.

The best part is that most HD-2 stations dont have ads.

So she can listen to 2-3 stations with 24/7 music and a better selection than the FM channels.

The problem is that because its digital, it is very hard to optimize antenna placement. With a regular radio, you move the antenna around and can tell if it gets better or worse. You cant do that with HD, you have to move, scan, move, scan...

  4. RE: Uncarrier delayed

Is this all Marcelo's doing, or was it already in the cards and just took time?

I mean, I think it's fair to say that features such as paying off ETFs and free global texting/data are a direct result of T-mobile doing it.

The question is, was Hesse a roadblock preventing Sprint from adopting these kinds of policies (ie, thinking they were useless gimmicks), or did he ok them but it just took many moons to get them through?

  5. I'm guessing because the Aquos doesn't work on GSM bands?

    What are your other phones?

That seems to be the case, even though Mexico is very CDMA friendly.

For a 2014 flagship model, this is very dissapointing, and from what I saw, the Sprint branding materials don't really mention the limitation.

The Iphone 5s and Galaxy S4 added the feature without any issue, which is good. I look forward to using it.

  6. I just added this onto both of our lines. Between the wifi calling and this, I'll be set when I go to Mexico sometime within a year or so!

Just a word of warning: My dad was unable to use wifi calling in Mexico because it insisted he put in an address, and no matter how it was formatted, Sprint refused to accept it.

Anyway, the free texting and limited internet is a killer app for my family. My only complaint is that it took so long after Tmobile did it, but it is fantastic that it is here now.

    Edit 1:

    This is odd...

It has to be done on a line by line basis yes? I can do it for two lines but not my third. Ugh. Does this mean I have toc all Sprint?

    Edit 2:

I hate the stupid phone system. Why do I have to listen to an ad about easy pay before even getting to the menu options?

First agent said she couldnt do anything and would transfer me to international department.

International department says theres no such thing as a new free roaming text and data plan and now Im on hold.

    Sigh.

    Edit 3:

Ah shit, the Aquos is apparently not part of the Sprint free international roaming party. Fantastic.

  7. Airports should have been a priority for Sprint with NV1.0. It was shown as "unfunded" in the docs I seen back in 2012 as NV was starting. So Hesse et al back then did not feel they had the funding and pushed it aside. Probably never thinking back then that NV would take as long and customer losses would be endured so long, making it hard to ever fund.

Sprint is just now getting around to working on Metro Transit and Airport systems. I'm looking forward to them getting completed ASAP.

Which IMO was a really bad plan.

Who spends a lot of time at airports? Upper management and executives.

Who gets to sign off/veto company-wide decisions on the corporate cell phone supplier? Upper management and executives.

No service at airport = "Claudia, look into switching cell provider, NOW"

A bad experience for Bob the VP could mean a loss of 700 corporate lines.

Anyway, apparently Marcelo is at the center of a big MLS (Major League Soccer) press scandal this week? Nothing to do with Sprint, but interesting to see his name brought up.

  8. I've said this multiple times, SD slot is overrated, it slows the phone down quite a bit. That is the reason google doesn't include it in any of there devices. Also being able to charge the phone super fast is way more useful than having to carry multiple batteries. Not to mention remembering to charging both.

So your needs are different. Great.

But who are you to say what my needs are? I need an SD card slot (not negotiatble), a removeable battery (not negotiatble), and water proof (highly desireable).

I will not buy the S6, period.

Also, the removeable battery isnt to carry around extras, but to switch out after a year when it stops holding a charge well. Ive owned an S2 and an S4, and my family has had the S1 and S3. Samsung batteries are garbage.

And this is the wrong thread for this.

  9. The GS6 edge is the best android phone ive seen in quite a while, from a design standpoint, the superfast I/O and CPU/GPU, and that SCREEN!!

I dont want design, I want features.

I want waterproof, removable battery and SD card. The GS6 is of no interest to me at all.

  10. No it does not. It goes to the last available signal first. Only an airplane mode toggle, or shutting off the mobile radio completely causes a rescan of all technologies, starting with LTE.

Got it, so next time Im on the subway Ill toggle airplane mode.

What phone do you plan on upgrading to?

I assumed I was getting the Galaxy 6, but the reveal was a massive disapointment for me, so I have to wait and see what the phone world looks like come September.

I was near Times Square yesterday and while my friend on AT&T could not get websites to load, I was flying along with Sprint 4G. She was making fun of me for the poor service I experienced at Prospect Park.

  11. Getting on and off the subway definitely would not help...

And, not having a tri-band device definitely does not help.

What do you mean, doesn't losing the signal completely mean my phone will try for 4G when I get to my destination?

No, it doesn't but I'm 6 months away from my upgrade.
