  1. I found the answer here guys

Do I have to return the device at the end of the lease term?

At the end of your lease as a customer in good standing, here are your options:

    • Turn in the current leased device and upgrade to another device with your choice of purchase method (Lease, Easy Pay, 2-year agreement, or full price purchase) or Bring-Your-Own Device.

  2. Wow 20 minutes and all gone. Page say's check back in 24 hours to see what is the next gift.

Apparently from Reddit they let you get one code per phone number rather than account.

Sprint shouldnt let that happen. Should be 1 per account to share the love. Some people are too greedy.

2,000 is rather limited. I actually hope the next couple of days are much lower value prizes so more customers can take advantage. This is excellent PR/customer retention and I hope Sprint can reach as many customers as possible with it

  3. I was also told that once you pay off the phone then you can get subsidized back.  I asked that point blank.  I had to get a new phone early for my son about  months back.

Yes were in the same boat.

My sister lost her iphone (she says stolen) and shes leasing now at some loyalty promo rate. We were told by multiple reps that once the lease ends she can get her 2 year upgrade that would have become available around that time.

  4. Personally I don't know... 100 may be on the stingy side on the newer plans, but I fail to see how 300 isn't enough. A fairly common roaming situation is someone on vacation for a week or someone going back to visit family for a week in a non-native coverage area. 300 MB still allows you to send 400 emails, visit 200 we pages, and upload 200 pictures to social media. It isn't going to allow you to slingbox back to your TV at home or stream Netflix, but nor should it for that matter. If people find themselves needing more than 300 MB in roaming on a regular (or even somewhat infrequent basis) a different carrier may be needed for them.

Im curious about what they define as a webpage size.

Ive noticed that every month my data usage inches up, with my usage pattern being the same. According to my phone, it is Google Chrome that is using up the most data.

That leads me to the conclusion that webpages are becoming more and more data hungry. The developers add more and more bloat without considering data usage.

The NYT had an article recently on how ads are exploding the size of webpages

Thanks to ads, the Boston.com homepage takes up almost 20MB on a single load.

    http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2015/10/01/business/cost-of-mobile-ads.html

Visiting that home page just 5 times would blow through your monthly roaming allocation.

    Thats insane.

And unfortunately, from the user end, we have no idea how much data any given webpage will take up before we visit it.

  5. Went to Mexico last week. Connected to Movistar as soon as I exited airplane mode. I switched to GSM only and that was perfect as well, no extra battery drain.

In Chiapas, I connected to a Guatemala cell tower which was extremely fast. Also completely seamless.

The full speed experience was fantastic. Was able to use my cell normally as I would in the US. Google Maps, Yelp etc all worked perfectly. Much better than the unlimited 2G, although I did have to keep my eye on the data usage.

Oh, one interesting bit...when I switched to GSM, my android data usage thing reset to zero, so I had a perfect track of my GSM data usage. Fantastic!

Edit: Oh, one thing I found odd. All my text messages sent normally, but to make any phone calls from my contacts I had to go in and add the +1 to them so the call would go through. That is, when texting a US number, I did not have to edit the number at all, but to make a call, I had to manually add the +1.

    Why is that?

  6. Im not liking how Sprint is presenting their plans.

Go to the website, hit shop, and youre presented with one and ONLY one option, which is $20 + data + phone, aka ~$60 a month for a 1GB plan, or ~$110 for unlimited

    ....and thats it.

But go to Best Buy.com, say youre a new customer, and you can get an iPhone 6 for $1 on a 2 year, and then choose between

Simply Everything Family SPR   (apparently $70 for unlimited data)
My All-in (Individual) SPR (apparently $80 for unlimited data, if you go through all the checkout screens)

Sprint Family Pack SPR (I cant even figure out the pricing here)

And I dont even know where one finds the iPhone for life or was it means - edit, apparently $80 with the phone, $65 if you bring your own?

And of course now you have pricing based on what your previous carrier was - unless you're on prepaid and then youre ignored.

This is confusing right? It's not just me?

  7. This may be my one and only post on the so called "hype."  Yes, this move is major and worthy of the hype -- for new subscribers.  Had VZW, AT&T, and/or T-Mobile offered a deal to cut your Sprint bill in half for equivalent plans, many of you would be out of here in a heartbeat and on that deal like flies on shit.

    #DoubleStandard

    AJ

How is that a double standard?

Todays announcement saves current Sprint subscribers a grand total of $0.00.

If Verizon announced they would offer my family unlimited internet at half the rate Im paying Sprint...well, yeah, Id probably switch. I mean, seriously, who wouldnt take that deal? Anyone here would turn down $100 a month in savings assuming the exact same plan?

I dont understand this need to be loyal or grateful to a publicly traded mega-corporation. I choose what I pay for based on what service I get for what cost. I am with Sprint because they offer me the best value. I don't see the controversy of jumping ship if anyone else decided to offer me a better value proposition.

Ive been with Sprint for 5 years btw, so clearly no one has yet to do that.

  8. He did prep for a Wednesday conference call. Why wouldn't he tweet about it? I'm sorry, but this was not over hyped. Not even close.

The DOW is up 1.5% while Sprint is down close to 10%.

That tells me hype was built up and the investors don't feel like it delivered.

Those arent magenta fanboys or delusional S4GRU members - they're unbiased investors.

  9. Didn't Sprint just tweet about it and create a countdown page? That's now overhyping? I actually don't get the overhyped storyline. No TV Commercials or billboards. And it was kind of the last minute.

It wasn't overhyped. Even S4GRU members were largely dubious it would be anything worthwhile. But to tech enthusiasts, it was probably all a spectacular fantasy. You people who claimed Sprint overhyped this are in fact the ones who over hyped it. The rest of us were pessimistic.

    Me personally?

I never let myself get hyped up by anything in the industry because if I did, Id never be happy.

I even forgot the news was today.

But Im talking about stuff like this:

Sprint plans to make a significant move Wednesday in what has become an endless series of pricing battles among the major mobile carriers, especially Sprint and T-Mobile.

It’s not totally clear just what Sprint has up its sleeve, but it’s enough to have CEO Marcelo Claure so excited he can barely contain himself on Twitter.

Claure tweeted a picture of himself and a team of Sprint co-workers on Saturday, saying he had just finished a planning meeting on the announcement. He then followed that up with a tweet pointing to a countdown clock on Sprint’s website.

“The other carriers are not going to like this … guaranteed,” he said.

Sources said it’s not just your typical add-a-tablet promotion, nor is Sprint giving all its phone customers a hotspot, but there are still lots of other things Sprint could try. One source described the announcement as “big … very big,” but would not say more.

    http://recode.net/2015/11/17/sprint-ceo-marcelo-claure-plans-big-price-move-on-wednesday/

Had Marcelo not tweeted anything beyond "prepping for Wednesday conference all" ridiculous articles like this never would have been written and I think today's press cycle would have been more upbeat.

  10. Does anyone here disagree with the statement that regardless of the merits of the new plan, Sprint over-hyped it?

I think, had they released it as a surprise, the reaction would be very different.

Instead, the countdown clock, the "nights and weekends working" and all the tweets built up expectations way too high.

I think Marcelo has done an excellent job. However, I am concerned he seriously misread the market if he genuinely felt this announcement was worthy of the hype.

The reaction right now is more focused on "that's it?" rather than any of the merits of the plan. That to be says that their announcement strategy backfired.

Good. I'll buy some more then.

Ugh, I made that mistake 75 cents ago :(

  11. I thought that The Verge was a more intellectual site, above the "click bait" headlines of BGR, etc.  I guess not.

And writer Nick Statt may not be an idiot.  But he was wearing his idiot cap today, also grinding his axe against Sprint.

    AJ

Not anymore. Theyve transitioned to clickbait and even feature articles about pop singers.

Their Microsoft Fitness Band 2 article is stuffed with 300+ comments complaining about what a poor job the reviewer did. As a tech review, the article is garbage.

Its sad but its the internet cycle. Quality niche reporting -> Expand to more mainstream reporting -> lose quality -> clickbait -> delete bookmark.

  12. I'm surprised they took out the option to wave your hand to scroll. Samsung had an ad showing someone eating BBQ with messy hands and using their Samsung.

Yup, and that commercial was EVERYWHERE. I rarely used the feature, but when I did, it was exactly that kind of situation. IE, eating ribs, or washing dishes.
