As much as Sprint may not be able to afford to buy US Cellular, they absolutely cannot allow somebody else to buy it. US Cellular represents the last chance that Sprint has to significantly grow through acquisition and absorb a tech compatible user base.
I bet you if push came to shove Sprint could financially do it.

On the sponsor map, 800 only refers to voice. If you want to know about the coverage for 800 LTE, you need to become a premier sponsor, which is an automatic upgrade once you've donated a minimum of $100 to the site. The premier sponsor forum has maps for 800 LTE (and 2500 LTE/Band 41).
Good I am glad I was right about that, thats what I thought, thank you for confirming.
-
I thought 800 meant data too..hmm
Yes it is data too, I wouldnt know, I live near Rochester, NY and we dont have 800 yet because of border issues (slowly getting it though), we got Sprark though!! Man I did a speed test actually when I was near a tower that had it yesterday and got 64.38mps down and 14.12mps up!!
Your phone and the tower selects what band is best and/or available.
-
So question, now that I have access to the maps, I am looking at the towers near my house and they have 3g/800/4g. What exactly does the mean for these towers?
3G means NV is complete, 800 is 1X800 (Voice) (pretty sure), and 4G is 1900 Band 25 is active. Its the green ones.

The CCA/RRPP should help with that, but implementation is going to take time. As much as it would be nice to buy USC, Sprint is so leveraged today they will need a few quarters of strong cashflow before being able to finance something like that. nTelos on the other hand...
I know I was just saying it would be nice lol

Thank you! We had sprint last year in Wilmington for about 3 months but they were upgrading the network here and we literally couldn't do anything with out phones. It got to the point where if I wasn't on wifi then I couldn't use data at all but since NV is completed, I'm optimistic. Sprint had excellent coverage in Pennsylvania and along 95 on our trip up so we were happy with that. Just sadly, the network was in shambles here in Wilmington.
As for me being a sponsor, I'm glad I can contribute! I will be giving money on a monthly basis to help in any way possible because what you guys do is incredible. The interaction between users is something I've been looking for and I have certainly found it here! So thank you.
This is one of the best sites, there are others but there a lot of "trolls" and that on the other sites, and just as not didication as there is to this site. I have been on the other sites and there is nothing wrong with them, I just prefer this one, plus this is the only one with maps and better information, lol.
Yea I heard Washington was a mess but I know someone who lives there and told me actually just before New Years that things are like night and day and LTE is good.

I live in Wilmington, NC but travel frequently to Delta, Pennsylvania and to York, Pennsylvania. I'm really hoping to join sprint in the next few weeks as i need to convince my wife about us migrating go sprint.
Sprint has def. improved since NV (Network Vision), and Sprint "rip and replace" of antennas and equipment!! Sprint really has never been "bad" I never thought, coverage I will admit could be better but overall I never had a problem with Sprint service. Sprint is really getting band 26 which is 800 (old Nextel spectrum that better penetrates and gos further). Most of us on this site are big Sprint fans and love the Sprint network and we all struggled through the "mess" (I didnt experience a lot of issues in my area, but some people on here did have a lot of issues). The network is almost complete with NV so you really should not even notice any issues.... I think you will be pleased with the Sprint network and hopefully she will too!!
Also, I am glad to see you are now a Sponsor on here, glad to see you were able to contribute/donate, I am here to answer any questions you may have along with staff and others!!

Thank you! I just wasn't sure what was acceptable so thank you!
Your welcome!! I am glad I could be of help!!

Big Blue and Red are also still living off of the benefits of not building their networks but buying them. Thats not to say that they have not made a lot of smart network moves, because they have. But in the end it was faster, easier and perhaps cheaper to buy the network.
I wish Sprint would buy the rest of U.S. Cellular, and especially nTelos, that would help Sprint out a lot with coverage where Sprint does not have current "native" coverage (well Sprint's own equipment).

First off, I am new to the site . Secondly, what is a acceptable amount of money to donate to the site? I am a college student and obviously funds are a little low at the moment but I am willing to give some money to help in any way possible. I want to be able to see the upgrades in my area honestly so that I can make the best educated decision on when I should switch my wife and I back to Sprint. Thanks guys!!
Anything is acceptable even a dollar but even 5 would be better, it gives you access to most maps on the site and more information!! I def. would recommend it!! Robert (the site Adimin) he is very nice and understandable. I was in college when I first came on this site myself so I understand where your coming from!!

I think five years is reasonable in the wireless market. The tech and the market has changed so rapidly over the last ten years, that it makes it difficult to maintain a high level of success over an extended amount of time. I think Hesse was very good for Sprint, maybe even a savior. But his time had passed him by and it was time for a transformational leader versus a caretaker. I am still not convinced that Claure is that leader but the signs are promising.
I am glad you agree with me!! I think the only main reason AT&T and big reg Vzw has not budged is because there CEOs have been there for well over 5 years and I dont for see them changing anytime soon. AT&T I think is a little better then Vzw as in there seem to be noticing that being stubborn is not going to help them in the long run. One set of prices 2, 4, 5, 8,or even 10 years ago DO NOT reflect the ever so changing USA constant changes in prices of cost of living, minimum wage, etc. (thats not a good example but its what I could think of right now, lol).
-
For better or worse, he has his formula for success.
Yes I do agree with you on this, but we got to remember Hesse had a lot of success, it may of looked bad on him because of timing (He came in just after Nextel was bought, he tried Clearwire). I mean dont get me wrong some of his decisions wernt good (especially Clearwire) BUT in the END that gave us more spectrum just like Nextel did. It may of been a mess but look at where we are NOW, MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH better position to compete. (Sprint has the most spectrum).
I think Claure is already doing a much better job and cleaning things up, I personally think CEOs should only stay for 5 years (at least for the wireless industry). Look at how Legree changed T-mobile, and now look at Sprint. This is just what I think I know people will disagree with me, or maybe some will agree!!

Lets hope he does good first before getting ahead of ourselves....

Can you name a single US operator that already has this type of LTE-A SmallCell solution commercially deployed.
I have no idea, alls I said was it LOOKS like its what all the carriers sell already but THIS one looks like it COIULD support all the carriers....
-
I was thinking about getting one myself, but I opted for just tab 4, 7in WIFI only device. I like it, but bigger screen would be nicer!!
-
yea i saw this

"Coincidentally", Ericsson today also announced indoor RBS 6402 Picocell solution, capable of aggregating cellular transmission with up to 20MHz of unlicensed WiFi (LAA) for improved peak rates and indoor coverage. http://www.ericsson.com/us/ourportfolio/products/rbs-6402
It seems to be a very cost effective SmallCell solution, $2,000 a pop, fully capable of leveraging SON capabilities and requiring only Ethernet for both power and bandwidth.
looks just like what each carrier has already but this one looks like it supports all carriers so you dont have to have carrier specific one....

The iden conversion is next to the fairgrounds along I690 and the lake, all four antenna's point at the fairgrounds. It made a huge difference at the state fair this year for usable data. I'm not sure how many other nextel sites are sitting unused, but I would love to see more of them converted. Even just unique clearwire wimax sites would make a big difference.
Thats the one I was thinking of, your right. Well there are lots of unused sites I can think of lol. I dont think theres been much new activity for anything since November. Probably because of the Holidays.
-
The band 41 is pretty kick-ass when you can find it though, to give credit where it's due.
I was actually in the other side of the state this weekend, over towards the Amsterdam-Schenectady area and the active band 26 over there is actually amazing. Being able to hold an LTE signal inside is Sprint's biggest weakness right now, and as soon as they can deploy band 26 in Rochester it's actually going to make a huge difference.
B26 would help out a lot!! Its just too bad Sprint didnt convert all the Nextel sites where Sprint towers/antennas werent near by and increase the footprint, think I saw one in the Upstate/Syracuse market that was a Iden conversion. I am sure there will be more, but money could be an issue and the old Nextel sites are not a priority (they must not be because a good 90% of them still have Nextel antennas on them).

Some servers just are terrible period, every server is different though. Some are just better then others.
-
I don't believe Sprint's schedules are altered by the threat of more users in an area from a new business, unfortunately. But my guess is that the ground mount "leftover" highway sites in Upstate NY will be tackled in early 2015. We don't have any schedule info on these remaining 3G highway sites, so it's gonna be pretty far out.
In any case, it definitely will have LTE at some point, but it won't be accelerated by any outside factors.
I wish they would do the major one first I-90, then 81, then 390&86 from GMO getting them to LTE.

I have found that Sensorly is the best in my experience, Rootmetrics is garbage lol
-
Sorry if already posted, but here is a pretty good deal for current Sprint customers looking to upgrade, if you're OK with lease: Just $5 per month Galaxy S 5 and iPhone 6/6+.
Thats all nice and all but loyalty isnt fair game anymore, they took away that program they USED to have for customers (I think over 10 years for being a customer).
-
I don't think so. He said half of all EDGE sites will have LTE by the end of 2014 and the other half of EDGE sites will be complete by the middle of 2015.
maxsilver already said this....

I don't see why not, USCC sold there HOME market of all place (Chicago, IL) to Sprint. I see what your saying though and I think nTelos would be a better buy.
