  1. There is no usual time.  Sometimes it is days, sometimes it is months.  In a few noted and uncommon instances, it is a year.  In many instances, Network Vision 3G cannot just be turned on as is.  Network Vision gear often does not play well with legacy gear (especially when the adjacent legacy sites are from a different OEM.  Also, Network Vision sites reach further (up to 20%).  Just turning it on can cause interference problems, which can lead to even slower data speeds and dropped calls out the wazoo.  And in severe instances no data or voice at all.

This complicates just turning them on.  Typically, NV 3G has to be brought online in clusters.  So in many cases, when a site is 3G accepted, it may still run on legacy 3G until the whole cluster is ready.  You will know for sure if a site is on NV 3G if they deinstall the legacy PCS panels and there is just one NV panel per sector remaining.

Also, as mentioned above, NV 3G may not perform better at all if it is connected to legacy backhaul.  Typically when they complete the hardware installs at a Samsung site and pass inspection, they will accept both 3G and 4G LTE if there is upgraded backhaul at the site.  If they are still on legacy backhaul, they will accept only the 3G side.

And even if you see 3G and 4G LTE accepted at a site, it is not for sure that 3G is hooked up to the new backhaul yet.  It is possible that the LTE is on the new backhaul, but the 3G will not be on the new backhaul because it is staying on legacy until the whole cluster can be switched.  You still only know that 3G is moved over to NV when the legacy panels are removed from the site.

Hopefully this helps clarify the situation a little bit for you.

Nice info Robert!!! Thank You!!! This MAY of answered somewhat of my question I emailed you about.

Here in Canandiagua they got the tower downtown on NV/LTE but not the one uptown (just NV 3G) (the one up by where I live has a much bigger footprint then the one downtown tower).    :tu:

  2. I turned on LTE yesterday and connected in Cananadigua. Specifically at the intersection of 332 and 5 & 20. Unfortunately I was driving so I couldn't run a speed test, but I've got Sensorly on my phone now so hopefully I can upload soon.

They did the downtown tower which covers very little (I noticed), the uptown tower is up much higher, I am hoping they get the 4G LTE on the tower uptown Canandiagua VERY SOON, I live near it (very close)!!! I am guessing this one is not ready just yet.

  3. I live in Canandaigua, nothing here.... Oh and by the way no one commented on my post not long ago!! What the heck?! I quoted what I wrote about a month ago... I was hoping someone would have some insight on this...

I should just mention I live in Canandaigua, NY the tower is on the north side of the city is where I live... (I live with in a block of the cell site, I just don't know how to find the cell site ID). I just went up to that cell site and noticed three (3) new antennas one for each sector (two antennas on each sector direction, one set points north-west, another points south- east, and last south west (all approximately)."

I was unable to quote myself I tried "quote button and would not let me for some reason so I copy and pasted with time and date.

  4. Very strange to come across this here in Ontario County, The tower closest to me they had 2 antennas per side (one set north, another south east and the last set more west).  The replaced the one side with the new panel antenna (weird looking because Sprints older antennas are very yellow compared to the nice white ones everyone else has)... Anyways, the other tower I saw they LEFT the other antennas alone and just ADDED the new antennas to each side in the middle... Now why they would do that to one tower but not the one closer to me... that boggles my mind, theres way more room the tower near me compared to the other one..

  5. Interesting the 3G speeds are better all the sudden, started this month (more recently) but no towers near me are even on the map yet... must be just a fluke at the times I just happen to do the tests... (I am in Ontario county).  As of 1:58PM (today) 1.84 mbs down and 0.68 up, down load usually hovered at 0.80 and upload has never really changed stats between 0.65-0.80 up.. the pings are shorter now too...

  7. Well, to be honest at this point I don't care which area of our market gets it as long as we start getting some more updates. It seems that Buffalo gets one update and then it can go weeks without another. When other markets such as cleveland or chicago seem to get several every time an updated acceptance report is posted.

As far as where the towers are going, you can become an s4gru sponsor and have access to all sorts of interactive maps, which one of them includes showing which sites in a market have been updated.

Buffalo and Syracuse are way far ahead of Rochester. (I am in the Rochester area well Ontario county).

  8. I tried posting this in a different form it got deleted , I don't this it was allowed in "market one" So let me try here... My question is does anyone live or Visit Oil City, PA?? I am going to get my friend on a contract with me but my question is about data/internet.. On the Sprint site it says 3G, but when I click 3G and more and says Nationwide Sprint Network (on network) a medium color purple. Is it REALLY SLOW speeds down there? I dont want him to get stuck with internet or try and watch a youtube video and it not work at all or barly... I need input please!!!!

    Thank you!

  9. Hi, I am curious if ANYONE on here lives or visits Oil City PA, me and my friend are wanting to get on Sprint contract plan toget, I live in NY State (near Rochester) I have 3G and Wimax. HOWEVER when I looked up his city/Zip code (16301), I noticed initally it says 3G&more, well if I click that its "Nationwide Sprint Network" (on network) medium color purple. Is internet/data REALLY SLOW there? Or is it not THAT bad?  This is a serious question!!! (I am not dumb I just want some input from people that have visited there or live there).    Thank you!

  10. Thats good for a big city like Atlanta! I am NOT bragging about how great my speeds I am getting but at least they are CONSISTANT. Its a decent alternative for when Iam out and about and not near wifi.

  11. This is my averages (as seen below in the pics) the lowest I have ever gotten is 9mps dowload and the lowest ive gotten for upload is 1.50mps up. The highest download ive gotten once is 13.98 down and 1.85up. The cloest server to me is Rochester ny (about 30miles away) and Syracue server sometimes reads better and that is the second cloest to me (about 70miles away.Screenshots_Screenshot_2013-04-07-19-54-28.pngScreenshots_Screenshot_2013-03-27-13-37-27.png
