  1. X marks the spot... http://www.motorola.com/us/consumers/Moto-X/moto-x,en_US,pg.html http://www.anandtech.com/show/7197/a-quick-look-at-the-moto-x-motorolas-new-flagship And, FYI, some of these redundant Motorola X threads are going to be merged or closed. AJ
  2. Were you at the George H. W. Bush compound? I would have to say, though, that using even CDMA1X 800 from 100 miles away probably "wouldn't be prudent at this juncture." AJ
  3. In your case, I hope that it was not the Brooklyn Bridge, Manhattan Bridge, nor Williamsburg Bridge. Those are iconic structures. Or, should I say, "Icona" structures... AJ
  4. To sum up the issue for everyone reading, we have been unable to establish whether the Netgear tri band hotspot supports two spatial streams under 802.11n. If not, then it is limited to 72 Mbps minus overhead. And that would artificially cap its 20 MHz TDD LTE downlink throughput. USB 2.0 tethering circumvents any Wi-Fi bottlenecks altogether. AJ
  5. Here is a little something for, as Bill Cosby would say, "the young people"... AJ
  6. The S4GRU corporate jet otherwise known as the Chevy Suburban? AJ
  7. This thread is clearly lacking some game show music... AJ
  8. I am on record with my preference to keep the site smaller and centered solely on wireless network tech. But I can also appreciate that hundreds, if not thousands of less network tech focused sponsors are the "golden goose" that pays the sites' monthly bills. So, compromises and concessions may be inevitable. AJ
  9. Yeah, -105 dBm RSSI is lower and basically the edge of CDMA1X usability. AJ
  10. That may be true, but nothing of it is inherent to 802.11ac. If limited to an 802.11 device, an 802.11n router could theoretically include a faster processor and achieve the same speeds. However, I now do understand your real world results. AJ
  11. Define what you mean by "bandwidth" in this case. For example, 802.11ac supports 80 MHz carrier bandwidth. But the Note 2 does not. AJ
  12. I agree. I greatly dislike these kinds of contract loophole threads. And they are certainly miles away from the chartered intent of this site. But S4GRU has entered something of a grey area. We are closing in on 20,000 members and 200,000 posts. Will S4GRU remain a niche Sprint wireless network focused site? Or will it become the go to Sprint general discussion site? AJ
  13. That depends on the device. The HTC One and Galaxy S4 support 802.11ac, but the Note 2 does not. So, regardless of router type, the Note 2 is connecting at 802.11n MCS indices, at best. AJ
  14. Hey, get out of me! Who said that you could move here with me? AJ
  15. You can also create a homescreen shortcut to the Testing.apk. That is what the cool network nerds do. AJ
  16. Oh, I am just baiting Robert. He will chime in sooner or later -- during his layover, once he gets off the plane. AJ
  17. Some of us prefer that many rural/regional carriers remain alive. They tend to construct coverage with localized, strategic focus, maintain local executive and engineering positions, and provide more satisfying, personalized wireless experiences. AJ
  18. Why a second CDMA1X 800 carrier? Do you realize that, in most markets, CDMA1X 1900 is over only one or two deployed carriers? And that works fine. Sprint does not have a voice/SMS traffic loading problem. It has a data traffic loading problem. AJ
  19. A benefit of acquiring T-Mobile is that it would likely shut up John Legere. AJ
  20. When the house is empty and a bunch of people come over, no one might notice any crowding -- if you catch my drift. Omaha has almost zero local T-Mobile users, but it has the largest single license protection network that I have ever seen from any operator. So, I would imagine that the T-Mobile network could most readily handle an influx of visitors because, well, nobody is home. AJ
  21. I am not sure that this idea will work. Robert knows absolutely nothing of IATA codes. AJ
  22. Indeed. In my many years of digging through the FCC ULS, I can corroborate that "Lukas Nace Gutierrez & Sachs" shows up fairly often as interim license holder. Lawyers, not engineers. For various reasons, I will say no more. AJ
  23. Is everyone familiar with the children's game of "telephone"? Whisper a message into the ear of the person next to, continue on down the line, then laugh at the distorted message that comes out of the last person in line. From senior management down to frontline employees, the message goes from "Coming soon" to "By the end of the year" to "In the next three months." AJ
