  1. I'm guessing right under 50%. Robert from Note 2 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
  2. I agree that 40% still leaves too many gaps. Should maybe wait until 60%. Good news on the tri-band confirmation. I agree that 40% POPs is too low. However, I'm glad to know their methodology now. Robert from Note 2 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
  3. The point we're trying to make is that when/where Tmo is deployed with LTE, there really is no fall back. Because Tmo is overlaying its LTE on top of HSPA+ coverage. I also have Tmo. They are deployed over 60% of ABQ. I never fallback to HSPA+ inside LTE coverage. I only fall back when I leave coverage. And when that reaches 100% conversion, I will probably never fall back to HSPA+ again. If T-Mobile had upgraded their entire network to HSPA/HSPA+, then falling back to those networks when off LTE would be useful. But instead, most Tmo customers nationwide will be falling back to 2G EDGE or GPRS. Want to talk about falling off a cliff! I'd rather fallback to Sprint 3G. Sprint 3G is faster than EDGE on 3/4 of their sites, and probably 95%+ of rural sites. And faster than probably every GPRS site. Robert from Note 2 using Tapatalk 4 Beta

  5. The T-Mobile LTE mapping I did yesterday in Albuquerque showed up in minutes. At the right zoom level I was able to watch it in almost real time on another device. Good job! Robert from Note 2 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
  6. I also think that Charlie has made enemies of Dan and Masayoshi. Unless they already struck some super secret deal, then I don't expect the New Sprint and Dish to be working together anytime soon. Robert from Note 2 using Tapatalk 4 Beta

  10. OK...since people want to hear it from the horse's mouth...here is the backhaul plan at USVI Sprint sites from the Sprint Playbook from May 2012. Master backhaul for USVI sites is provided by an AAV vendor in USVI. It is not coming from Puerto Rico. That AAV vendor likely is connected to fiber to one of the underwater fiber connections from the islands to the Bayamon switch/core. Only about 1/3 of the USVI sites are connected with AAV backhaul. The rest are microwave connected to one of the AAV sites. So every USVI site has microwave. Either they receive backhaul via microwave from a donor site with AAV, or they have AAV and provide backhaul to a recipient site via microwave. Robert from Note 2 using Tapatalk 4 Beta

  13. Thanks for your post. We have a market thread for the Richmond market where you can report your LTE encounters: http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/1723-network-visionlte-richmond-southern-virginia-markets/ Closing this thread now. Robert
  14. My past attempts to get unactivated devices to detect LTE have been unsuccessful. Just 1x. And then it won't even authenticate to that. Robert from Note 2 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
  15. So true. Been with Sprint for 12 years. I really hope they don't go in that direction once LTE is up and running nationwide. Rest easy. Sprint will not be scrapping unlimited in the near future. SoftBank is also known for their unlimited data. And it's Sprint's big differentiator from the duopoly. 17. Even with Clearwire TD-LTE, the claim to the fastest LTE network will be questionable. VZW and T-Mobile likely will both have some markets with 20 MHz FDD deployments. And from a peak speed standpoint, 20 MHz FDD is definitely faster than 20 MHz TDD. In fact, 20 MHz TDD is really more comparable to 10 MHz FDD, which VZW, AT&T, and T-Mobile already have in many/most/all markets. So, Sprint still will not win the peak speed contests, but it may win the average speed contests -- or, at least, be far more competitive. AJ I agree with your comment, but want to add the distinction that 20MHz TDD-LTE peak speeds were testing higher than the theoretical limits of a 10MHz FDD carrier in Clearwire FIT testing. Sometimes hitting the high 90's. But we do not know the upload ratio they were using in that testing. Clearwire was consistently getting 60Mbps speeds with good signals in their testing in places where the backhaul was installed to support that throughput. I do agree that it's likely that Clearwire TD-LTE with 20MHz channels will likely settle in around 10MHz FDD performance characteristics. However, it will not be subjected to the same fade from burdens as they have much more ability to add additional carriers for capacity than most FDD carriers. So in this regard, Clearwire should smoke the FDD 10MHz carriers. Verizon wishes their 10MHz of LTE 750 was still pushing 30-50Mbps. Now 20MHz FDD on the other hand...well, ouch. 19. In the RGV, there will not be 800MHz initially. That's true. Sprint and the FCC are still working through that with the Mexican Feds and their SMR band license holder. It will not likely be resolved in 2013. However, parts of the South Texas market away from the border, like Corpus Christi, Kingsville, Alice, Victoria, etc. will start to receive 800MHz deployments this year. Robert Is sprint and the FCC also working with the canadian feds to work out the 800 MHz issue and the SMR band license holders? Sent from my HP Touchpad using Tapatalk 2 Supposedly so. I know Sprint wants them to. However, we are talking about two separate federal governments here. On the US side, the FCC is very motivated because Americans need and can put to use this spectrum for wideband use. However, the Canadian and Mexican governments don't have the same urgency because their SMR license holders along the borders do not have eminent wideband plans, thus are not pushing their governments. The current agreement is for interleaved 25khz channels shared between the American and Foreign carriers. If they are not prepared to move to wideband in Mexico or Canada, how do you share border spectrum of wideband and narrowband? You pretty much can't. And if they are ready and willing to go to wideband, then they have to organize how they are going to split it up. The carriers on the other side may have a larger or smaller chunk of SMR spectrum. It could get very messy trying to line up and divvy it up fairly. No matter how you slice it, it's a messy proposition and Sprint is only going to be able to use at best half of its border SMR spectrum. Robert from Note 2 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
  20. Sprint has announced that starting at 12 Midnight on Sunday June 30th, the Nextel network will start going offline and Saturday, June 29th will be the last day of service. So the countdown is counting down to that very moment...the official end of the iDEN network. Our chat that is scheduled is kind of like the New Years Eve Countdown party as we watch the clock count down to zero. So it needs to be at that time. Robert from Note 2 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
  21. I just posted on the S4GRU Calendar a chat scheduled next weekend to count down the end of the iDEN Network. More details: http://s4gru.com/index.php?/calendar/event/25-s4gru-live-chat-countdown-the-final-hours-of-iden/ Also, don't miss you opportunity to Sponsor the final 24 hours of the iDEN countdown clock. We have an E-Bay auction going on here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300923642492 Hope to see you next week in The Lounge! Robert
