Just reminds us that no one is immune to the occasional outage, not even Big Red.  Sometimes I think particularly egotistical people could use an occasional bitch slap (reality check?) as well.  Read: my former boss.

That said, cute graphic.  It did elicit a few hearty chuckles.

Downdetector.com shows relatively few complaints but definitely some issues. Quite small compared to AT&T's reported national issues a few days ago with VoLTE. Sprint's issues with LTE a few months ago fell in between. I also recall T-Mobile having issues a while back.

I have Xfinity mobile and that runs off them. I haven't had any issues.

I think if you are totally dependant on wireless, it might be best to carry two phones that use different networks. This would not only give protection against outages but possibly for service gaps. Cost of the backup phone could be reduced by using a MVNO

 

If money is no object, get a satellite phone. Of course even if you have a satellite phone there are times and places you won't get coverage (deep valleys, too far north/south, no satellite overhead).

 

Let us not forget Wi-Fi calling and femto cells as alternatives for mobile phone service in certain situations.

You guys don't get it's all just a joke based completely on the image? It's not related to something specific in the news.

 

The V and R are burned out. Multiple outages. Get it?

The implication was that the image was posted (even designed)  specifically to poke fun at an actual outage. Seemed to make perfect sense. 

If no outage actually happened, cool. But I think we assumed one actually did. Hence, the image.

I can't believe nobody else got it lol. I saw the title and was like "what?" then saw the sign. There'd have been news everywhere if they had any real outages.

Nope, not "designed," just documented.  That image is an unadulterated photo that I took of a VZW store while I was out and about on Friday night.

That's pretty ironic. Wasn't sure if it was manipulated or not. It only makes it better that it was not.

      Was in Red Hook again and I swear there are more Link5G sites as there are Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T small cells combined in the entire neighborhood. It seemed like every other street I turned down had one installed. Hopefully carriers will start hopping on them soon. Seems like a lot of effort to go through for no one to use them.  — — — — — T-Mobile converted the Sprint site on top of NYU Langone Brooklyn in Sunset Park. I first mapped one sector of it back in November 2023 but I thought it was a small cell so I never pinned it but I ran into another sector today which caught me off guard. I'm unable to find a permit for the conversion so it's definitely a surprise. There's another T-Mobile site 1 block away that T-Mobile initially installed back in 2019 so I'm kinda surprised they're keeping both considering the Sprint conversion is on a much taller building and could potentially provide much better coverage to the entire area.  — — — — — The old permit expired for this site without any work being done but a new permit was just approved a few days ago for a T-Mobile site at this address. Description mentions 3 antennas with 2 RRUs per sector. My guess is they're doing something similar to what they did at 360 Furman St in Brooklyn where they broadcast Band 2/66 and n25/41 from one antenna. It's a bit of a downgrade considering the site it's replacing was a full build with Ericsson 6449s.

      Came across another Crown Castle Solutions multi-tenant oDAS node in Brooklyn. Located at 40.7002286, -73.9612666. Nothing on T-Mobile or AT&T so I'm assuming these are all Verizon nodes that Crown Castle is anticipating another carrier will hop on down the line.
