Their explanations for the lower tiers are priceless.....

Unsurvivable Budget Phones (Phones for Homeless People) 41. LG Optimus F6

42. LG Optimus F3

43. Pantech Perception

44. LG Optimus Elite

45. ZTE Fury

46. Kyocera Rise

I think you'd be more at peace with your life if you had a flip phone. Or no phone.

I don't really care what Gizmodo thinks, but how can they put the Note 3 below the S4?

Simple. It is too big. That is what she said, he said, most people said.

That's a personal thing though, some people love the bigger phones some don't. But from a spec perspective it's way better than the S4

I completely agree. For me, the Note 3 would be the perfect phone, had it not lacked tri band LTE. If the Note 3 was tri band, then I would be typing on that right now instead of this Note 2.

Over the past few weeks, I have been tempted to pick up a tri band device, and have checked out the Nexus 5, G2, HTC One max, and Galaxy Mega at my local Sprint corporate store. The Nexus 5 and G2 were just too small, while the HTC One max and Mega lacked the specs to make me pull the trigger on a purchase. Didn't even consider the S4.

I did well to preface this thread with the "ruffled feathers" expectation.  I am quite prescient.

Come on, guys.  The list is a mix of personal opinion and popular sentiment.  If you do not like the results, publish your own list.  But I doubt that you will go to the trouble.

Additionally, the Galaxy S series grossly outsells the Galaxy Note series because the latter is simply outsized for most people.  Do you think Gizmodo would want a bunch of hate mail for putting the Note 3 in its top tier?  "I bought the Note 3 based on your rankings.  Thanks a lot.  Now, it takes up a whole space in the garage, and I have to park outside."

In the end, too big handsets are mainly for Robert's oldest son and people with overcompensation issues.

:P

I see what you did. It was nice of you to include that "and".

This is exactly it! People want different things from phones. I want a micro sd slot, huge awesome screen and a removable battery. Hell I'd love a much larger official samsung battery for it (the zerolemon apparently kills signals and the rest of the 6400mah ones come with the worlds worst replacement backs), after the x7500 I could cope with a fatter phone. But thats me, other peoples needs may dictate an iphone or a blackberry or a wp7 phone or an LG or whatever. Theres undoubtedly bad phones out there, poor quality craftsmanship, dodgy roms, dodgy radios etc but strictly ranking them is not viable.

Then you have the question of which variants you get? Is it the verizon note 3 with a shonky lte radio or the at&t which is locked up tighter than a disney princesses chastity belt etc, even carrier variation can play a huge part in phones. Seems like clickbait to get people ranting in their comments and clicking on their ads.

Or people who want a pocket sized tablet that can sometimes be a phone, depends what you want to use a cellular device for. I guess some folks are still bitter about their rotary phone stopping working ;)

Yes, you must have some ruffled feather pruning to attend to that is very important.

Another Freudian explanation for Note 3 fixation is "tablet envy."

Tablets for the skinny jeans generation ;)

Uh oh, do not let digiblur hear you say this. He has a disdain for "skinny jeans." If you are suggesting that he has a Note series handset for his skinny jeans, well, I am glad that half a continent and half an ocean separate you.

Exactly right. The rankings were fun to read, but in no way should determine what phone an individual should purchase. Each has his or her own criteria for what is best for them, whether it be price, raw specs, screen size, battery life, color, name, etc. Because of that, the list is a bit of entertainment but not much more.

Plus I love tech sites raving about large phones being useless for voice because you look like a tart using one. Like they havent ever heard of hands free headsets or bt yuppie earrings. Sure it probably gets you a few clicks but it costs you respect from anyone with a clue.

Digiblur has a Nexus 5 now, so while his disdain for skinny jeans is well founded and understandable, I'm not sure it comes into play here.

I don't know man, Ariel looked pretty promiscuous.

Have you been viewing Ariel animated porn again?

I have always chuckled at the tech sites opinion of large phones. As someone who is 6'4" I can easily use my phone with one hand and do so on a daily basis.

Now, when someone asks me about the phone, I tell them that the size is right for me and my big hands but is not right for everyone. Usually, I will hand it to them to try out and see how it feels for them. If they like it, cool. If not, then no big deal.

    • Probably a lot of Midwest towers. Slight bias since Nebraska is a weird market, but there are tons of USCC sites that T-Mobile isn't yet co-located on. Think a similar situation in Iowa, Wisconsin, and Missouri. But some other markets, like yours, probably don't have that issue!
    • Sticky Customers - YES, and leave them flip to the T-Mobile PLMN when needed and they will be even more likely to Stick.
    • It seems to me that if the goal is to improve rural, the US Cellular buy-out would get them only part of the way there, considering there are plenty of rural areas that US Cellular does not serve.  But I also have a hard time reading it the way I think that article is, that the cost of this deal comes straight out of the $9 billion.  I mean, they're getting spectrum for their existing operations in US Cellular markets, including places that I wouldn't call rural.  (Roanoke, VA is the 9th largest city in the state, for example.)  It seems like some of it should be allocated to rural expansion, but certainly not the whole purchase price. There's also something to be said for getting the customer base of potentially sticky customers who have been used to US Cellular being the only game in town for potentially decades. - Trip
    • T-Mobile has stated 15% of their sites don't have 5g triband. In WV I know WISPs had a lot of 2.5GHz, but T-Mobile was trying to buy as much as possible. More rural FWA would be a big selling point that might overcome any soft bandwidth cap slight overages. Especially since UScellular likely started offering it on c-band.
