Sprint as you go

Okay just kinda curious about this program my boyfriend has been a customer for virgin mobile for years. But its getting to the point where sprint native isn't available at his new job. It makes me worry on his 30min drive there and back with no service. He has the s2, but back to the meaning of this topic. Will virgin get access to 1x 800? Or will sprint as you go get more options on phones? He doesn't want to buy the same phone he has now just for roaming, because he says he can't use his phone at work anyways. I'm just worried about him getting into an accident one early morning or late night. just wondering if anyone knows when the s3 or equivalent smart phone will be out for pay as you go?

If he wants to switch over to a phone that supports 1x800, he can go with "Ting". It's a provider that uses Sprint's network. A lot of people on S4GRU recommend it. They have new phones as well as the S3 if that's what he's looking for.

My mom has a "dumb phone" on Ting and my parents are very happy with it. The phone works great on Sprints network and Voice and text roaming is allowed (no data roaming which is not a problem for them and I would assume not a problem for a Virgin mobile subscriber who would otherwise have zero service)

Roaming voice and SMS is the reason I chose Ting (Verizon has better coverage in a few more rural spots I need it when visiting family) and it has been fantastic for me so far.

I hate Sprint as you go and there is one reason. If a customer is one day late they get shut off and charged a 36 reconnection fee. Contract customers can go over 30 days late and then be shut off and charged a reconnect fee. It does not seem right to charge a a non contract customer a reconnect fee for being a day late on the bill.

 

I've never seen any official thing about this in the T &C but I've seen it several times and been cussed out because of it.

I wish Sprint would let Boost have a byod program like some of their mvnos. At $55/month with shrinking payments I wouldn't mind buying a phone out right.

I understand the argument, but consider this, if they ever have to disconnect your phone service rather it be one day late or 30 days, they have the right to charge a fee.

They don't have byod like their mvnos.  You can bring in old Android phones like the HTC Hero or Samsung Moment but not anything recent.  With Ting and some of the others you can bring in pretty much any Spring phone that has a clean esn.  Here's Boost's byod list:  http://www.boostmobile.com/support/faq/#!/activate-sprint-phone
