Network Vision/LTE - Winston/Salem Market (including Greensboro)

The site covering that area was the one off of market near wendover. I think they finally adjusted the tilt of the antennas down. It was covering a huge area for awhile.

All quiet this week. Some sites that had been up were off today. For instance where Holden and High Point Rd cross. Have not seen LTE anywhere I have not seen it in the past. Just have to be patient.

I thought Highpoint and Holden was an antenna near the mall.  If it is coming from that far away I would be impressed.

everything you see in sensorly (inside city limits) is from 1 tower.

So when a tower is first upgraded the transmitters are pointed almost level which gives you a huge footprint.  After testing is completed they are adjusted to a normal footprint overlapping the 3G from that tower.  That explains some of those spots where you get LTE and then it is gone the next time you go looking for it.  So I think there are two towers on in High Point and the one we know about in Greensboro, three others outside the city limits in Guilford County.

LTE could be there...if you're not toggling the data connection yourself it could be 15 min before scans.   There are apps to help with this.

I go from Oak Ridge to Greensboro to High Point every day so if a tower is on I should see it at some point.  I always have my Sensorly on so I will know if I have found anything new.  Have been seeing LTE in the downtown Greensboro area but I think it is bleed thru from some where else.  The signal does not lead to a tower.  Also as Sprint switches its Clear wire  to LTE there will be better coverage but everyone will need new phones since that is a different frequency.  Rumors about tri band phones are out there but when where and how is still just rumors.  Talked to Sprint tonight and they are still saying that they will be done by the end of the year.  I get a strong 3G signal at home so if my nearest tower is switched I will know right away.

Supposed to be massively ramped up on installs and 3g conversions starting in November, I guess we will see how long it takes to finish.

Just took Wendover from 68 to Market, Market to Dolley Madison, Dolley Madison to Friendly. Sensorly on all the way and absolutely nothing indicating 4G in the entire area. Did they shut it down?

I think they adjusted the antenna's so the coverage will be a smaller area.  You need to be down near the sheetz to tell if it is off.  I got some of south east area.  The tower is between Millpoint and Kessee, between Thacher Dairy and Mcdonnell.  Very rural down there so you can't go on to many other roads there.

    • Was in Red Hook again and I swear there are as many Link5G sites as there are reserved small cells from franchisees in the entire neighborhood. It seemed like every other street I turned down had one installed. Hopefully carriers will start hopping on them soon. Seems like a lot of effort to go through for no one to use them. — — — — — T-Mobile converted the Sprint site on top of NYU Langone Brooklyn in Sunset Park. I first mapped one sector of it back in November 2023 but I thought it was a small cell so I never pinned it but I ran into another sector today which caught me off guard. I'm unable to find a permit for the conversion so it's definitely a surprise. There's another T-Mobile site 1 block away that T-Mobile initially installed back in 2019 so I'm kinda surprised they're keeping both considering the Sprint conversion is on a much taller building and coule potentially provide much better coverage to the entire area.
    • Still not seeing any ULS postings for pending T-Mobile UScellular merger in Dane county Wisconsin.
    • Came across another Crown Castle Solutions multi-tenant oDAS node in Brooklyn. Located at 40.7002286, -73.9612666. Nothing on T-Mobile or AT&T so I'm assuming these are all Verizon nodes that Crown Castle is anticipating another carrier will hop on down the line.
