my guess is it recorded that info then as it started the speed test, the phone switched from 1x to 3g

1xRTT is a CDMA technology that Sprint uses for voice/SMS services. It also offers limited data connection speeds up to 144kbps. Your speeds have to actually be EVDO or eHRPD at those speeds. Your speed test software glitched or at some point during the test it switched networks.
