FCC approves T-Mobile-MetroPCS merger; no required divestiture

The merger was approved without even a vote by the commission. It was rubber stamped at the bureau level. The silver lining is that SoftBank-Sprint-Clearwire should deserve similar treatment.

So, Mr. Spectrum guru... is there a list of what MetroPCS had in licenses?

All of the PCS 1900 MHz spectrum holdings (except for the Providence market, which does not appear to be in active use) were detailed in my article back in October.

I did not track the AWS 2100+1700 MHz spectrum, since Sprint would not benefit. But I could round it up, too. MetroPCS does not have that many distinct markets nor that many licenses.

I think I read somewhere that Sprint will have the best spectrum for 20X20 LTE deployment once the merger completes. Saying they have a great future. I hope so... we need more players to make prices cheaper.

No, that is 20 MHz FDD LTE. You will not see that anytime soon, if ever on Sprint. But Clearwire is deploying 20 MHz TDD LTE.

As part of the sweetened offer, Deutsche Telekom also expanded the lock-up period - when it is prohibited from publicly selling shares in the company - by 12 months to 18 months after the deal closes.

The new offer will reduce debt to $11.2 billion from a proposed $15 billion for the new company.

The German operator did not change the equity structure of the new company, which will be 74 percent owned by Deutsche Telekom and 26 percent owned by MetroPCS shareholders.

The new terms will postpone a special meeting of MetroPCS shareholders that was scheduled for April 12, according to a Deutsche Telekom source with knowledge of the situation.

MetroPCS said late Wednesday that it has rescheduled the special meeting of MetroPCS shareholders to April 24 to vote on matters relating to the proposed merger.

MetroPCS shareholders have voted in favor of the company's merger with Deutsch Telekom, the parent company of T-Mobile, Reuters reported Wednesday, despite dissension from one of MetroPCS's largest shareholders. The shareholders' approval was the last obstacle T-Mobile and MetroPCS needed to pass in order to meld themselves into one carrier.

I've been noticing MetroPCS stores have been opening, advertised, in my area and nearby locations where I live.
