Blocking LTE connections

Recommended Posts

I went to a site that I had mapped on sensorly the previous night, but was not able to connect. The network screen was clearly showing LTE but my mobile network stayed disconnected. Toggle didn't work, power cycle didn't work. I also tried to disconnect the mobile network and reconnect and it would do a stutter to connecting. connecting then fall back to disconnect.

I'm pretty sure this site was not blocking connections because when I drove away and started to toggle again eventually it connected and I turned back around and mapped some more. Today I had the same thing happen at another site too.

I was under the impression that if they blocked the connection you would still have 3G (in my case I had no data at the site unless I toggled to CDMA only, at that point the mobile network connected)

I also have a EVO LTE but this sounds different from the other issues people have had. It wouldn/t default to 3G at all

If the site is newly completed they may have ran into issues with the site. I had a site around here that had a bad rru and had to be replaced and one i have no clue whats wrong with that has been done since March 28th! So since your not in a launched area hang tight and see how it works out.

If you were able to connect again a short ways away, it makes you wonder if it was device related. I have no idea. That's very odd. I don't recall anyone else reporting that same issue. But then again, with the EVO, nothing can be ruled out.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. It was at 2 separate sites too. The one thing I didn't do was toggle from CDMA only back to LTE/CDMA at the site to see if it would connect or do the stutter thing again with the disconnect network. I may go back again today to see, but at a bare minimum I would have thought it would at least be on 3G. I also have a EVO 4G that I will use to record it and maybe post so you guys can see

If it was in a state to prevent normal users from connecting to it, it will look like it is not even there to you. Unless of course you have AJ's spectrum analyzer. Your phone simply be on 3g if available.

So what do you think then when I can see the LTE signal strength from the network screen but the network will not connect except when in CDMA only

    • June 1st security update installed on s24 ultra factory unlocked. No functional changes detected. No play system update yet.
    • The June security update is out.
    • In China now and roaming on China Mobile with Google Fi/TMUS. 5G is enabled on roaming, however most areas in China have NSA disabled on the network. so SA is the only way to get 5G. This is only possible using a native SIM from the Chinese carriers. Also, LTE CA is disabled on basically every site, except for a few I've come across while on the bullet train.   I'm lucky enough to be in a small town where NSA is still enabled on China mobile, so I'm able to have a decent experience while roaming. Haven't speedtested much but it seems to top out at 300mbps over roaming on b3 + n41 100mhz. The networks here are dense AF and every site seems to have midband 5G deployed. Also, interesting to see that most sites have antennas branded by the carrier, or painted a certain color (which I haven't figured out what that means yet).
    • My S21FE, which is my primary phone, has burned in quite a bit from SCP.  Not sure I could get a good picture of it, so I won't try.  Helpfully, since SCP allows full customization of app colors, I'm going to see if I can't undo it a bit by flipping the colors. https://imgur.com/a/QQr5Ncv We'll see how long my eyes tolerate the change... - Trip
