Sprint has filed documents to the FCC requesting approval of the SoftBank deal.

The companies also have filed a petition asking the FCC to make a declaratory ruling that would allow SoftBank to exceed a 25 percent foreign ownership benchmark.

I thought Verizon is like 40% owned by Vodafone? How is this possible if the FCC doesn't allow this? Or maybe I misunderstood?

Verizon Wireless is 45% owned by Vodafone.

I believe foreign ownership approval is case-by-case.
