  1. Yes, displaying 3G while on 1X dishonest and deceptive.

All three of the Sprint Android devices I have owned have done this. However, neither of the iPhones my wife has owned have had this "feature."

Modifying Android devices so they lie to their owners needs to stop.

Does anyone remember when iPhones were lying to users about how good their signal was and showing too many bars? I don't remember that going over very well.

I definitely prefer thin crust pizza. But I can respect a good quality deep dish slice. But what I don't like is mega thick crust pizza. Or what I call, "pizza cake." Say no to pizza cake!!!

Come on guys, I'm trying to be pissy and the get this thing back on track and even the admins are throwing pizza under this thread jacked buss.

Now I have the munchies ...

    Screw it. I'm ordering pizza.

  2. Displaying 3G while on 1x really bothers me, it's deceptive. I never had the privilege of seeing the icon on a device until recently and didn't like all the animation in the status bar anyway. :)

  3. I just wish there was a way to have Hangouts only handle the Google Voice voicemail side of the house. Anytime I've tried to mess with it, Hangouts wants to take over my SMS and MMS side as well. I don't want to use Handouts for that. I just want Google Voice for my voicemail.

So, I am still sticking with the old Google Voice.

You should be able to do that. Just change the default SMS app to whatever it is you want to use.

    travismheim is right.

I have Hangouts installed and use it exactly in this fashion. It only accesses Google Voice voicemail and messages that are sent to the GV phone number. My stock messaging app handles normal messaging.

  4. Anyone with GV Lite (voicemail only) having issues recently? My voicemails are suddenly going to the default Sprint system now, and when I try deactivating or reactivating my N5 with the * dialer code provided by GV (that always worked in the past), it says the feature code is not valid.

    -Mike

    No problems here.

I think I see a phone call to a sprint CSR in your future. (Or an online chat session. I think I like those better.)

  5. Just turning on, lighting up like I hit the power button. I can just leave it sit on a table and occasionally, not related to any notification, the screen will turn on. Annoying.

That doesn't happen to me either. Are you rooted and can you get a log to see maybe what's causing your screen to wake like that? Maybe some app that's going bonkers from time to time?
  6. Really? Every time I install an application from the Play Store that has Contacts access, the Contacts will crash on me. Like clockwork this happens. Examples would be Textra, Twitter, etc. Do you have your contacts synced with Facebook, G+, Twitter, or LinkedIN? I mean, I could see that maybe if you had 0 of those synced, perhaps it would not crash and this is how it eluded the software testers??

I do not have Google+ installed but I have my Google acct, Facebook, and LinkedIn synced to my contacts (among others) with tons of apps accessing said contacts and have not experienced this even once on OA6 on my GS5. I did fumigate my phone beforehand, though. Meaning: I Odin'd in the full OA6 tar ... but only after formatting internal flash memory as well as deleting the Android folder from the removable sdcard.
  7. Not sure if this counts as Network Vision, but it is market-specific.... And great news!

"On-air just in time for Opening Day on April 6, Sprint’s new Distributed Antenna System (DAS) will enable fans to better capture and share some of this year’s biggest moments in baseball. With a seating capacity of 37,903, Sprint – a longtime sponsor of the hometown Royals – is the only wireless carrier serving The K with a DAS. Sprint’s extensive system provides voice and data service throughout the entire stadium utilizing all three of Sprint’s spectrum bands (1.9GHz, 2.5GHz and 800MHz)."

    Any KC baseball fans here?

    Yes.

    Sweet. Thanks for the tip.

Things have been better since they lit up B41 in the area. Though I do hope they do this for Arrowhead (right next door) before this fall. The 75,000 at a Chiefs game sets up a mobile black hole for non-Spark Sprint users.

  8. I had an unexpected experience last night with this. I am not fully integrated. I have a separate Google Voice number and I simply use Google Voice as my Sprint voicemail.

I do have the new Hangouts and the new Hangouts dialer. I had set it up to receive GV text messages, voicemails and incoming phone calls through Hangouts on the phone.

Receiving GV incoming phone calls through Hangouts created an interesting result. When I get an incoming Sprint call on my Sprint number the phone rings and if I don't answer it then it rolls to Google Voice voicemail as expected. However, once it rolled then I received a new incoming phone call through Hangouts from my GV number and I had to wait for that call to expire before the caller could actually leave a voicemail message.

It appears that Google Voice is not distinguishing between no answer call forward from the Sprint line and an incoming call. It is ringing the Hangouts app in both circumstances. I'm going to play around with some of the call rules and see if there is a way to overcome this.

I ended up setting my GV account to Do Not Disturb. The only side effect I can see is that text messages sent to the GV number do not produce a notification on the phone. But since I use my GV # for voice mail only, that's fine with me.

With DND set to ON, all calls to the GV # go straight to voice mail, which is what I want.

  9. Extensive testing of the first sprint triband device, from LG no less? That would be music to my ears , a stark comparison to the incessant whining we would endure if the device was launched with hiccups

Sent from my Note II. Its so big.

That 800 MHz band better be a fine tuned machine before the average user gets their hands on a tri-band device. And since Sprint just canned a gaggle of phone support staff its even more imperative.

  10. I'm not sure that's still a problem for CM10.1 - I have Profile and PRL updates in my Settings (GNex, not GS3). But in any case, there are many ways to update the PRL on an AOSP ROM. Sprint Diagnostics, from my message that you quoted, will do the job nicely. And it will even write a custom PRL if that's what you'd like to do.

    Have a great evening!

    John

I'll give that a try on my GS3 next time I venture over to AOSP land. Thanks for the tip.

  11. Hi Kyle, no need to go back to a stock ROM. You need the Sprint Diagnostics app, available from xda-developers here. The app requires root. The engineering screens are available on the Debug menu. There's a whole lot more, too.

    Have fun!

    John

*UPDATE* I forgot to mention that you have to flash this from recovery, since it's a system app. The OP's link is dead, but you can download it from farther down in the message thread.

Depending on your device, you may have trouble updating your PRL to one that will allow you to connect to the 800 MHz bands if you're not running a stock based ROM. I don't think it's possible to update a PRL from CM 10.1 on a Sprint GS3. If I'm not mistaken, one must backup your current setup, flash a stock ROM, do your PRL & profile updates, and then restore your nandroid backup. I don't think you can get the right PRL if you sit on a CM based ROM all the time ... at least not with a GS3. Not sure about other devices.
