The roaming restriction is based on first-hand experience.  I have roamed on T-Mobile 600 and 700 before in select locations, but in many areas, I have never connected to T-Mobile 600 or 700, even when the alternative has been no service, and sometimes even while my T-Mobile phone is connected to 600 or 700.

My impression is that in places where 600 and 700 are not loaded, they allow such roaming.  In the places where it's under considerable demand, either due to high number of users or low density of sites, Sprint roaming appears restricted to AWS and PCS.

That is wild, you would think no service on Sprint would roam before Tmo since Sprint has always been liberal with the roaming versus Tmo. I had the opposite experience yesterday.

I threw a Sprint SIM in an embedded radio and ran through every band available in the T-Mobile network from the coast to the capital yesterday. Bands 2/4/5/12/71/and aws3 66 in 3 markets and 2 states. Also during the App state v S Carolina game. It doesn't get busier than that. Yes they all aggregated. Just a plain old phone line too.

I wonder what the dynamic network controls are that let an enb tx the clearwire mnc only on certain channels or maybe even sectors? Roaming has generally been a plan level feature. But I guess if it is not switched on you won't get it.

Unfortunately it is all subjective or anecdotal and no one has put forward an answer how or why.

Okay I can understand now. Also how's T-Mobile coverage in your area?

Traveling from the coast to capital city today.

Great until you get off the beaten path. Fair as you get off the beaten path. Gone once you make a new path.

I mean I understand that idea now. But they were touting the 600 megahertz as a new form of LTE in terms of coverage. They shouldn't be bragging about it if it's only a 5 megahertz chunk deployment. Because for my area only it's a 10 megahertz slice of band 71. Why even bother putting it to LTE if it's only 5 megahertz?

Like WiMAX, it was the right and available technology at the time of launch. New Radio offers a bit more capacity and will be widely available sooner than a lot of folks expected, while dynamic spectrum sharing is something that about 2 of many vendors have a product for, or will soon so this is what we end up with. Throw in the clearance schedule for digital dividend spectrum and you have a lot of rules, vectors and variables.

Band 71 @5MHz aggregated with band 2 @10MHz, these are the only channels available on this site. Interstate 95 N of Florence SC.

I don't know why everyone keeps spreading misinformation about these bands not aggregating, just like certain roaming bands being restricted, this is untrue. Y'all should stop.

Unlimited Verizon for $25 (New T Mobile is $15/ month for 2G  data)  a month and with 5G?   Please show me this feat of amazement!   Not sure what exactly you are comparing as I know of NO Verizon Plan for that amount of money with Unlimited.    Apples to Apples....  Lets see. Here's all I find.   1 line now... Not a 5 phone family plan...Looks Like $80 Bucks a month mister.  ($70 + $10 5G surcharge = $80)  Not $15 or $25.   If Verizon had that pricing, I would of went to them a long time ago.

He is talking about Visible most likely, the VZW mvno. It is 25$ a month each with 4 lines. Unlimited, deprioritized from byte 1, with unlimited tethering capped at 5Mb p/s.

Probably because they realize that 5G on a channel of 20MHz or less is stupid so they're trying to give NR on 600MHz as much spectrum as possible. I've seen quite a few posts about them going from 10x10 to 5x5 on r/tmobile.

Can confirm. We started at 10MHz here, I went to test out if my embedded cat18 radio would pick up band 71 and it sure went right down to 5MHz.

  7. https://www.cnbc.com/2019/11/06/softbank-ceo-says-after-wework-there-will-be-no-rescue-investments.html

"SoftBank will make “no investment for the purpose of rescue,” Son told investors on Wednesday, after the Japanese conglomerate reported its first quarterly loss in 14 years. He said portfolio companies must be “self-financing,” and “that’s something that I would like to clearly extend my message to you.”

Remember when Mayoshi Son was worried Sprint would weigh down Softbank's share price?

    Pepperidge Farm remembers.

So, as a final closeout to this topic - I did call Sprint back for one final try on getting CDMA to work. The tech I talked to solved the problem in about 5 minutes. Turns out that Sprint had never activated the device. She proceeded to do so, And within about a 1/2 hour, all the lights were green, and I validated I could make a call off the Airave.

One would think that the unit would come pre-activated. One would think that the setup instructions would include calling Sprint to activate the device. One would think that sometime in my previous calls to Sprint, somebody would have noticed that the device was not activated.

    Amazing!

    Welcome to Sprint!

Looking at the status of transition spreadsheet, I see 6 entries for Army UAS in KY. Army Ft Knox is just south of Louisville, and is pretty much centered in the dead zone on the cellmapper map data. Transition due date is 4/30/2020.

    Neat!

I wonder if they'll complete early and release the spectrum before that date or drag it out to the end?

Good question.Maybe they have some incentive going but it seems like they are patient with this rolling out.

I haven't seen TMO fire up any of their AWS-3 here either, I'm guessing they're stuck waiting also.

I found it on one site here and it was PCC. I was at the country music festival this summer, since 40% of the attendance was cops or feds; I watched for COWs, extra channels and found it. Naturally it was crushed at 5MHz / 30k people.

Does anybody know what previously was using AWS-3 spectrum before it was opened up for cellular traffic?

  11. Drive by post. Just got back from an early morning cruise to find band 71 with the LM960 in the back.

Can now confirm this card will work 👍

    9e6i.png

This band does not appear in the bitmap so it can't be locked. It is always on in this firmware. Since band 66 is too it was a bit of work finding a place to test this.

That is a story for later. I'm going to bed.

Have a great week everyone and stay free out there 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

"The bear case is that SoftBank enabled Neumann's worst impulses and, from the perspective of many insiders, helped set fire to the company's reputation in the first place. Plus, there's the head-scratching decision late last month to have Claure help identify cost-saving and revenue opportunities at WeWork, even though SoftBank already had two directors on the WeWork board."

    Breaking means buying though right?

Is Sprint still going to use Airspan as an equipment provider?

Interesting how the nomenclature changed from Magic Box Gold to Magic Box Silver...

I always just sent back a box of parts, no one ever complained to me. I wonder if they will. I bet they go with all options, but who knows.

They keep inflicting these things on folks looking for a solution, when in reality the first people who get them seem to be a field test.
