  1. Nice, I just mapped a good bit of the Cabarrus county part of Kannapolis today. I stand corrected, the tower at 29 & 3 is the one that's lit up, not the one at Lane & Old Concord-Salisbury Rd (the coverage over in that area doesn't look to be strong enough for that tower to be live). Either my EVO is a poor LTE performer or that tower's not reaching quite as far as I'd like it to, as LTE was really spotty in downtown Kannapolis around the old mill and the Gem theater...and that's not that far away from the tower. At any rate, it's still FAR better than 3G.
  2. Oh snap, 4G just lit up at the house today! I got home and cycled airplane mode around 3 to no avail. About 4-4:15, I look down at my phone JUST as the wifi blips off and 4G appears! The RSRP is hanging around the -110 to -115 neighborhood, give or take, so it's not hanging on by much, but I'm still pulling about 5-6Mb down with that, which is impressive for that weak of a signal. I'll get out and map some tonight or tomorrow on Sensorly and see which tower it is. EDIT: Looks like someone's been busy mapping Kannapolis already. I wonder if the Alcatel-Lucent contractors are doing that while testing. Looks like it's coming from the tower near Old Concord-Salisbury and Lane St. That should light up I-85 in the area pretty well, since it's right in a bend of the interstate.
  3. Run Sensorly too and help us map the market out.
  4. I've always had relatively good 1X/3G inside that one...it's just the LTE signal's a tad under par for that tower IMO... then again, it wasn't broadcasting when I last passed through there Wednesday evening, so it's only been on a day or two at most - they may still come back to it.
  5. The tower off I-85 & Hwy 73 is definitely broadcasting now, although not QUITE as strongly as I would like - hopefully, they'll do some minor adjustments or crank up the power just a bit. I had fair signal in Afton Ridge, over by Target and Party City... average RSRP was -90 to -100 out in the parking lots and I lost it in the back half of Target with my EVO. I'm not very impressed, seeing as though Afton Ridge is maybe a 1/4 to 1/2 a mile from the tower with a VERY clear line of sight. My EVO also didn't hand off to the tower that's been broadcasting at Hwy 29 and I-85 either, so meh... it definitely picked up cleanly from the one further down George Liles off Old Speedway Dr though. I had Sensorly running the the entire time and it's showing up on the closer zoom levels. Some areas were previously mapped very weak, so it'll take some time to darken them in. Other areas make it quite obvious.
  6. That's strange man, My EVO has a 1 year manufacturer's warranty and I have no TEP. Mine started doing the endless cycling thing that many EVOs have seen a couple months back, so I took it to a Sprint repair store, paid the $35 for them to look at it and they replaced the device for FREE under that warranty (refurbed model of course). I actually had to get a few refurbed replacements for the refurbed replacements because they kept coming back with other types of issues and none of those cost me a dime. You may want to double-checked and make sure you're not getting ripped off.
  7. We should probably take the phone discussion to the phone section, just my two cents. Hwy 29 in Concord just got another tower lit up this morning, apparently! Coming from Kannapolis, I would always lose LTE right at Roberta Church Rd over the last couple weeks but this morning, I was running Sensorly and SignalCheck and saw SC handoff LTE to another tower at that intersection! Looks like the tower at Pitts School & 29 is now broadcasting, as I did a Speedtest at this intersection and got 24.9 down and 10.4 up! Once I got to the Speedway, I handed off to another tower that's been broadcasting for at least a few weeks now and got service up until about 1000-1500 feet before I-485, so Hwy 29's pretty close to solid coverage between the Kannapolis city limits and Charlotte! LTE picks back up at the intersection of 29 and Mallard Creek. It may take a while for the Pitts School area to darken up on Sensorly, as it's been previous mapped multiple times as a weak area but I'm sure it'll get darker quickly enough.
  8. I was on my 3rd EVO before they offered that to me. FYI, I went to the store in Afton Village off George Liles, near Target.
  9. If you have to take your phone back in for repair, you can ask to switch to a SGS3 instead of getting another EVO. Keep in mind that we're all still under our 1 year warranty for our EVOs, so we just pay the $35 repair fee if we don't have TEP, like me. The only thing is if you switch to a SGS3 and something breaks after 30 days, you're SOL without TEP. I was offered that after my 3rd EVO but declined, since you only get refurbed phones from the repair centers. My EVO will flip over to 4G on its own after the LTE Scan Timer hits its 5 minutes but I find myself cycling airplane mode often enough. It won't be as much of a problem when the Charlotte market fills up with 4G and 3G becomes more of a rare occurrence. I actually turned my connections optimizer off today and was able to jerk my LTE Scan Timer and BSR Max Timer to 1. I'll see if that makes a difference in the EVO finding LTE on its own more quickly. I was with some friends off Speedway Blvd and had a decent LTE signal but could NOT get my buddy's Optimus G to connect to LTE to save my life...how ironic. On a side note, this discussion should probably be continued in the phone forum, not the NV forum here. Just my two cents.
  10. Looks like you have a lot going on up there that's suckin' down data. The EVO doesn't seem to like to switch to 4G that much when I have just Pandora running which is caca, but that's just the case. I can tell you right meow that 4G is definitely on from Ikea Blvd or so all the way up to Poplar Tent. A little bit pokes out from the towers around exits 54 and 55, then it comes on again from about mile marker 57 almost to exit 60, so your EVO just didn't switch for whatever reason. You should become a sponsor and see what towers are lit up! I could be wrong, but I'm guessing you didn't cycle airplane mode. On the Concord note, Hwy 73 is lightly lit up for about 2 miles heading into Concord from I-85. The signal picks back up at Central Dr from there and is pretty strong in the area. I just mapped that area today on Sensorly. Off Central, I did a SpeedTest with a -103 RSRP and actually pulled 10.1 down and 4.7 up, which is impressive for that signal strength.
  11. IIRC, it's just you and one other person on the forums mapping that area too...you two have covered a good bit of distance up there! Luckily, I can take a bunch of different ways from point A to B between where I live and work and not lose too much time. I have to take 29 to work in the morning because of the wretched morning traffic around where they're building the turbine interchange at 485/85, but can take 85 home, so I cover two major roads most every weekday as towers pop up.
  12. LTE is live on the south side of Concord now where 29/601/Cabarrus Ave W meet up (the Triangle for the locals that know it by that ). I just happened to have Sensorly running when I hit 29 and Roberta Church Rd and mapped all the way up 29 through Concord. Looks like 29 is completely covered through that area now, almost up to Hwy 3 in Kannapolis. I'm really hoping they light that tower up at 29 & 3 next! I pulled 16.6 down and 9.7Mbps up right at the triangle, FYI...
  13. Aww sookie, LTE is live in Concord by I-85! The one morning I forget to turn Sensorly on for the commute first thing, 4G pops up as I'm heading down I-85S towards Exit 58 (Hwy 29/601)! I got it turned on just before I got to the exit and mapped for a mile or two. I had a -83dBm RSRP as I passed under the overpass, so it's got to be coming from the tower off S. Ridge Ave. I'm not sure why it's not showing up on the maps yet, but I'll map again on the way home. That tower must have just gotten turned on yesterday or this morning because it definitely wasn't on Wednesday. EDIT: Now it's finally showing up on the closest zoom level...
  14. Looks like west of Albemarle and right around Wadesboro have popped up on Sensorly. Mt. Pleasant Rd out by Hwy 200 has popped up as well, so I'm assuming that tower at the Concord Speedway finally started broadcasting. I'll be driving into Troutman (AKA the end of the Earth ) this Sunday, so I'll see what coverage is up there via Hwy 21 and Old Mountain Rd, *if* LTE reaches that far from the I-77 towers.
  15. I was driving down George Liles Pkwy on the way to church this morning, looked at my phone and saw 4G! I took about 15 minutes afterwards to map George Liles, some of the Laurel Park neighborhood (runs between George Liles / Old Speedway Dr / Poplar Tent), Rock Hill Church Rd, and even a little on Hwy 29 out in front of the Arby's where it just barely reached. I'm 95% percent sure the tower that's broadcasting is at the end of Old Speedway Dr. and I've attached a picture of it, since I went right by it. Can anyone tell which ones are Sprint's? I'm thinking they're the bottom ones, but I'm not sure. The speeds are GREAT! I was getting over 22Mbps off George Liles and in Laurel Park! I checked permitting again on Cabarrus County's website, but I still don't see anything really recent.
  16. LOL @ "bam!"...Good job Emeril. Seriously though, that's a smart way of getting a timeframe on your tower...or at least knowing it's one step further. I just looked up Cabarrus County permitting with "Sprint" as the keyword search and NOTHING since 10/31/2012.
  17. I passed by the Charlotte Motor Speedway on 29 yesterday morning on my way into Charlotte and the tower near there must have panels pointed directly at it because I got over 21Mbps down and 6.6Mbps down! The RSRP soars up pretty quickly after Morehead Rd until I get near Mallard Creek, then it's solid the rest of the way to Harris Blvd.
  18. LOL, we're all space cadets at times man... Yep, I just use the national sponsor map and zoom in. The NC markets thread is just to discuss specific towers and questions about them as far as info that only sponsors would know, IMO...once it's been mapped on Sensorly, it's common sense / public knowledge at that point. My assumption would be that you're right on the line of coverage. Go into Sensorly > Details...see what your RSRP is when you do have 4G...if it's -120dBm or more, then that's most likely it. I see a full-blown signal at Flowes Store & 601, all the way back to the intersection at Hwy 49 but nothing from that intersection heading down 601 to 200. I'd be curious to see how the signal fades or stays heading in the direction of the speedway. Are you still holding data to upload in Sensorly from when you went that way by chance? You have a good point - using Google Maps Lab air distance tool, it's just over 4 miles from Flowes Store & 601 to the Speedway tower. I don't see FULL signal strength being carried quite THAT far, which could be good news for you! If the tower at Speedway Blvd hasn't been turned on (and depending on where the panels are aimed, it may just reach further out Miami Church Rd towards Mt. Pleasant Rd (4 1/4 miles over air) and maybe even up to Barrier Store, who knows! I took a drive from Kannapolis to Mooresville earlier using 29A > 153 > 152 > 150 and mapped out a good section of 153 and 152 on Sensorly. I also found LTE on 150 in Mooresville, over by 77...looks like it should get stronger further down 150, heading towards the lake. I'm betting there's a good bit of coverage back down 152 towards Salisbury, but I have no reason to go that way - maybe someone else can grab that section.
  19. Here is the link to the Sensorly map for Sprint 4G LTE mapped by whoever has run the app on their Android device (not compatible with iPhones yet): http://sensorly.com/map/4G/US/USA/Sprint/lte_310sprint Make sure to download the Sensorly app to your phone and help map out areas that haven't been mapped out yet! Sensorly is a user-based mapping app that's completely separate of S4GRU, but Sensorly and S4GRU are both very helpful to the community as a whole.
  20. So as far as towers reaching 5+ miles, sure..they can reach that distance - but the panels are aimed in certain directions and that's pretty apparent if you check out the Sensorly maps. Take for instance the tower at 49/485. Look NE of that at Morehead Rd in Harrisburg, where it gets darker - keep following that NE until you see the intersection of Pitts School and Hwy 29, where it's just barely detected. I could be wrong, but reasoning would tell me that that's the direction that at least one of the panels are aimed (I still have to look up the difference in panels & RRUs, still not there on knowledge). The distance doesn't seem to be as great in the areas between where the panels are directly aimed. Again, that's just my reasoning. Not having tons of skyscrapers and interference in the way makes a big difference too. Who knows exactly how the signal will stretch / bounce throughout the downtown area with all the corporate and residential towers there. Looks like there were 27 updates to the Sponsor map for the Charlotte market this week. Today or tomorrow, I'm going to see just how far up Hwy 3 and 601 that Concord Speedway tower reaches.
  21. You can either send Robert a message or quote him from another message which would get his attention to check with his sources. I noticed the same thing with the tower at Mallard Creek and 85... It just popped up complete be day. I'm sure things change with deployments and Robert's sources may not get every last one while it's in progress. If you look in the Sponsor section for NC, he does have an update for our market, he just hasn't gotten to it yet. We'll see if that one has what you're looking for.
  22. I'm not sure when it happened, but that one's marked on the Sponsor map too... maybe I just missed it because I wasn't paying attention to that area on the map. Wow, I just did the Google Maps Lab Beta distance measurement tool and that thing is blasting full 4G signal (darkest purple) just over 5 miles (over the air, not by road)!!! I did point A being the speedway, and point B on Hwy 49, just before 601 to get that. Even though there's virtually no interference out there, that's really impressive. Relatively speaking, that tower SHOULD be able to reach down most of Hwy 200, maybe past 24/27 and it should be able to hit a decent amount of 24/27 back through Midland and Flowes Store Rd, depending on how the towers are aimed and all that, since much of that distance over the air is 3-6 miles away from the tower. I guess we'll find out where those panels are aimed here soon.
  23. I was on Pitts School today, passing Robinson HS and looked down while waiting for the cops to let the kids out - lo and behold, I had 4G! That tower over by 49/485 or Mallard Creek & 85 must REALLY be reaching! By the time I could get Sensorly on, it was back to 3G. I'm really hoping for some LTE Accepted towers to come up on the next Sponsor
  24. You won't be able to until Sensorly becomes compatible with iPhones, which likely won't happen anytime soon. If you find an area that's not mapped and has 4G, let the rest of us know and someone will most likely go map it.
  25. Oh, there are some towers in the works further up I-85...somewhere... if you join the sponsor section, you'll see where, hehe... Speaking of which, there are some areas fairly close by I may just go map out of boredom, since I took a week off work.
