(I thought I would segregate this wildly off-topic, yet informative, debate from the discussion Current State of Sprint. Thanks to Odell for the inspiration of the thread title. - Duffman)

This is the first time I've ever inspired a thread title! I would like to thank the Academy and I just want to say, You like me! You really like me!

I would have enjoyed good data coverage on my last Metro trip. I was looking at the graffiti along the Red Line until we went underground and after that a little web browsing would have been nice.

As for people talking on their phones; that's a fact of life whether it's the movie theater, restaurant, or even the library. Try riding the Green or Yellow line when school lets out and you'll see that cell phone conversations would be a small intrusion.

And simultaneous voice and LTE will be more than sufficient in the long term, because Sprint is taking LTE over its entire footprint. Once you have LTE coverage, you can talk and surf to hearts desire.

Wow the last thing I thought I would see on this site is guys getting onto a bit measuring contest.

Lets just all agree that regardless of how you measure your bits, there still not big enough.

Hey what speeds are you seeing in the DC metro area?? I'm in the silver spring area

The last time I tested I was in Greenbelt and I got 3.11Mbps/1.45Mbps on Wimax and 0.28mbps/0.43Mbps on 3G. I work in Silver Spring near Georgia and Seminary but I am mostly on WiFi but sometimes I can only get 1x speeds before I hit the Beltway.

Thes best Wimax I've gotten in awhile was 6.20Mbps/1.43Mbs. I rarely test anymore because I find that the testing numbers keeps me focused on the minutiae rather than my actual user experience.

I have to admit that the article was a little discouraging. I still plan on sticking with Sprint because their data plan prices are the best fit for my family right now. I don't fret about data speeds as much as others because the majority of my data usage is via WiFi but I can understand the frustration that folks are feeling, especially when seeing those speed comparisons.

 

It's a good cause. It's what keeps us online. We are a not for profit site. All our PayPal donations go to pay our ever increasing expenses. The only thing I pay for personally out of donations is coffee. To fuel my late nights working on S4GRU.

Nope. Not at all. Closest thing you will find to that is the maps in our Premier Sponsor section. We have maps of the first 22' date='000 NV sites with schedule dates as of 3/31/2012.

Hmm guess that means I'll have to work on reaching that premium level if I want to satisfy my curiosity. Just have to figure out how to justify the 100 bones to my wife...

The data speed enhancements shown at network.sprint.com are just temporary upgrades to help bridge to Network Vision upgrades. Data speed upgrades in this instance are one or two additional T1 lines to help increase 3G speeds. These are not associated with NV/LTE deployment at all.

Thank you. So does network.sprint.com indicate in any way when or if a tower is slated for NV/LTE deployment?

Sorry if this has been addressed guys, but if I see that a tower in my area is due for a "data speed upgrade" does that indicate NV/LTE deployment or just some other speed enhancements?

I haven't heard anything about whether the new EVO will be easily rootable but I'm sure there will be tons of custom ROMs available once it gets rooted. I've been thinking about the Nexus as well but I am leaning more towards the EVO. I actually like Sense and I really like the Sense calendar. I haven't found another option that I like as much.

On a completely separate note, I tried web browsing over LTE on a Droid Razr last night. Man, that thing was fast! Google searching was almost instant and the web browsing was blazing. If Sprint's LTE is anything like that I am going to love it!
