  1. Welcome. Hope you enjoy our special brand of hospitality. Don't mind the odd noises coming from the Premiere Sponsors area. That's just...well...welcome anyway!

  2. All these leaks all of a sudden about the iPhone having a 4" screen are probably no accident. Seems likely Apple targeted these leaks. Trying to capitalize on this large captive audience waiting for their devices, hoping that possibly they will now consider waiting for the new iPhone. Or even more likely, since this is such big news, Apple is putting out positive information about their product while a competitor is languishing in bad press.

Although I never like to say never, I will say that my chances of ever buying an Apple product again are now so minute it would be hard to measure with a nano scale.

Would that be an iPod Nano scale?

  3. As a launch day EVO buyer I will officially be off contract on June 3. I will not be bailing even if the EVO LTE is not available. My EVO is on it's last legs but I still will not be leaving as I am getting the best deal from Sprint. If the Samsung Galaxy S3 becomes available before the new EVO is released then I will probably go that route.

I do find it a bit odd that Sprint would put this much push behind a device that there was even a question about it clearing customs.

  4. Well this is something to wake up to. The Best Buy reservation route is looking better every day.

Robert, your original June release date may turn out to be right after all. It's weird how the guy with actual sources seems to get things right in the end, huh?

  5. Well I’ll be damn, I guess I did call it right but this was to be expected. Now I do not doubt sprint one bit and I am more than confident that they have learned from previous mistakes but there is absolutely no way in determining demand on a phone like this. The galaxy nexus doesn’t count because we all know that the demand for the gnex is nothing in comparison to what the demand would be on the evolte. I think it would be fair to assume that all pre-orders made with in the first 24-48 hours should be filled and anyone else that ordered after that will have to wait a little longer for theirs to arrive.

I agree that Sprint has learned. Evidence of that is in their careful wording of their pre-order communications. No one will be able to say that Sprint dropped the ball on it's promise. According to Robert's post it appears that the delay is HTC related. Sprint obviously has no control over device manufacturer delays.

I would rather have the device delayed if it means that a problem will be fixed.

  6. They said the same thing about the galaxy nexus and the nexus pre-orders arrived two days before the launch.

Why isn't their best good enough? It's still the 15th, when they originally said it would ship...

I guess I don't understand why you are doubting them when it isn't the 17th... if you still had no tracking on the 17th I could see your logic. The negativity is kind of surprising.

Edit: looks like people are starting to get their tracking info for UPS overnight delivery.

    :)

Once again I am reminded about the dangers of chiming in. One day I'll listen to myself...one day.

I am not doubting Sprint at all. I was just chiming in on my interpretation of themuffinman's comments. I didn't pre-order so I don't have any reason to have faith or doubt in Sprint's delivery. I don't believe that this new EVO will be in nearly the demand that the original was. I'm sure that Sprint learned some lessons from that launch debacle.

As for their best being good enough; if there are folks who don't get their pre-orders by or before that epic May 18th date, the fact that Sprint never promised it by that date will be meaningless. Hence, their best will not have been good enough.

  7. What are you basing this assumption off of?

Sprint's order system sucks but the fulfillment center is very good. UPS takes care of it.

    http://pressroom.ups...or+Sprint.Video

My guess is he's referring not so much to the fulfillment center but for the devices even getting shipped out in time for delivery by the 18th.

Sprint has been very careful about their wording. I haven't seen one email posted that shows something close to a promise of delivery before it's available to the general public. Sprint said they would do their best. As the song says, sometimes your best isn't good enough.

  8. I have this strange feeling that even if the pre-orders don't arrive by or before the 18th, on May 19 most folks who pre-ordered will greet the sunrise and discover that, despite all concerns to the contrary, life is still going on.

  9. I think it's a reasonable battery test to run it in CDMA/LTE mode, just not a definitive test. Once LTE starts lighting up in markets around the country there will be many people who leave the LTE radio on so that when they are in range of a signal they will get the faster speed. We know that even when all markets are active there will not be 100% LTE everywhere.

I do think they should have also run the battery test in CDMA only mode to accurately represent what consumers will be facing once the device becomes available.

  10.

Well balanced in my opinion. I usually discount any Sense related reviews, pro or con, because Sense inspires pretty polarizing opinions in folks. I like it so having it is a plus. I'm running CM now and I miss some of my Sense widgets. The battery life seemed a little low but you never really know what "used it a bit" means from person to person. I'm looking forward to laying my eyes on the screen as I keep hearing raves about it.

I haven't heard any reports on whether this will be shipping with an unlocked bootloader or if it will be easily unlockable.

  11. If I am not mistaken, unless the person you are calling has an HD voice capable phone as well you will not notice any difference.

I think twospirits reported from a Sprint event that the sound quality was excellent. The post is somewhere on the site.

    Source: http://www.phonescoo...cle.php?a=10404

For the near future, it will only work between two Sprint HD Voice phones, and only on parts of the network that support CDMA 1x
  12. As a Sprint customer with no intentions of changing carriers but with every intention of changing my device, this is the quote that speaks to me;

In fact, we dare say that it's the best Android smartphone you can get on the network.

I rarely even turn on the 4G radio in my OG EVO so it won't matter to me that LTE isn't up in my area now.

  13. Props to the guy for not hanging up. I'll never understand the rationale of yelling at the person you need to help resolve your issue.

Anyway, I decided not to risk going the Wirefly route. As I progressed through the ordering process I just kept getting the feeling that something was going to get screwy with my Sprint account. We get a discount through my wife's employer and my line is not the primary line. I've learned to trust my instincts in these cases so I'll just be patient and pick up my phone when BB calls to tell me it's ready.

  14. You mean, if you find out you really want a removable battery :)

That's going to be the biggest difference between the two handsets

That and Touch Wiz vs Sense. Oh and that sweet Pebble Blue color. :D

The removable battery is the only thing that's allowing me to keep using my original EVO since my USB port has been fracked for months.

  15. Since I don't have an upgrade til April 2013, I'll be lurking on Craigslist for any unhappy Sprint customers wanting to sell their EVO LTE phones.

Who knows, you might see me selling mine if it turns out that I like the Samsung G3 better. :D

  16. Giving the phones away? 1st we really don't know what it costs to produce one of these phones. 2nd have you looked at your phone bill lately?

With all the back door bill backs and network funding that may be going on I would think Sprint is leveraged to the max and someone is investment spending in a big way.

I wonder how many Sprint 4G LTE sites will be on line May 18th. And how long 4g lte phone owners will give Sprint to light up.

And on a different note why is Sprint allowing leaks to this Web Site or any other. It seems like gorilla marketing. Effective way of creating a buzz I guess.

I certainly don't want to come across disrespectful to the moderators their hard work or their incredible networking knowledge. Cause I think their intentions are great. But I don't trust the Sprint machine. You don't get paid 11 million in bonuses minus the iphone rebate unless you are one "creative" manager. I'm hoping Sprint can pull this off but they must be walking a very fine line.

From everything I've read, US carriers are heavily subsidizing these phones. We've gotten a little spoiled with the $199 price point. People in other countries are paying hundreds more than we do here. Of course they are not on 2 year contracts with locked phones either.

  17. The Evo LTE can now be pre-ordered from Wirefly for $119!!! I canceled my Sprint preorder and ordered this morning. If you want to do the same, ask for the escalation department when you call Sprint. I had to go thru 5 people to finally cancel. Credit takes 7-10 business days.

    http://www.wirefly.com/eCommerce/Spe...f2ee5cbbfc6cb8

This is very intriguing. Since I only reserved with Best Buy I don't have to worry about canceling. With the $10 Google Wallet credit this is about $40 better than the BB offer with the $50 Gift card.

  18. I'm glad I went the reserve option vs actual pre-order. I haven't paid anything so far so if something happens along the way to change my mind about this phone I won't be stuck with a gift-card or with trying to get my money back.

  19. Sitting in Best Buy now. It's more like reserving than pre-ordering. I'm not paying anything right now.

I'm not too happy with how slow this guy's system is running but that's another complaint for another day.

*EDIT* Make sure you mention waiving the gift card purchase. The instructions were sent out to employees via email and if your Rep hasn't checked he/she may not know about it. They have to bypass the purchase options in their system.

My reservation receipt says "estimated date of arrival is Friday May 18"

  20. no $ exchanged yet....just gave my info and they printed out a pre-order receipt and then I received the same receipt in my email. The rep told me that they were waiving the $50 pre-order cards....not sure what that means...I did get a flyer in the mail from bestbuy: $50 for old evo 4g and $50 gift card....I also signed up earlier in the year for $50 off on next upgrade if done with bestbuy mobile before calendar year end. We'll see how this all shakes out, hopefully on the 18th.

    Chris

Interesting. I just called my local BB and the guy said the pre-order price was $50. He said since I registered my phone number for the $50 off the next upgrade that it should pull up that info automatically.

I think I'll take a run by there on my break and see what happens.

  21. just pre-ordered at BB....on preorder receipt:

Thank you for reserving your order of the [sPRINT HTC EVO 4G LTE]. The estimated date of arrival is [ Friday, May 18th].

Best Buy will notify you when this is ready to be picked up.

    cant wait...

Was the pre-order price $199 or were you able to get $50 off of that for signing up earlier to upgrade your phone with Best Buy?
