  1. This makes sense; a large percentage of the people were using iOS devices (for whatever reason) so I can see the 1900 PCS frequency being overloaded. When I was on LTE the signal strength was strong and overall the data speeds were acceptable.
  2. Are you referring to the Podcasts app from Apple? I haven't tried it in ages, but I can stay the Instacast app is working OK. For some reason it doesn't auto-start the next podcast in the lineup, but other than that everything is functioning. It does look like there are a few other reports of the Poscast app not working on the beta: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1594597
  3. iOS 7 will include a new API for developers called Core Telephone Framework (CoreTelephony.framework) that will give them information about the type of radio technology used by the device and current signal strength. This information was not officially available in previous iOS versions. From my understanding this is what was stopping Sensorly from allowing mapping on iPhones. With this new API does anyone know if Sensory will be updating to allow mapping? I'd love to get out there and help fill in my neighborhood! 4. Interesting; I had a much poorer experience on the parade route. On the north side of the route I was being pushed down to 1x, no LTE or 3G showing up anywhere. As I got closer to the Boystown area (by Roscoes) I was able to pick up LTE and it was *decent* speeds. I never ran a speed test, but I was able to load up Foursquare and Facebook after a slight delay. Overall much better than prior years when I would end up roaming pretty much the entire weekend.
  5. The parade is almost always a complete disaster; I don't think I've ever been able to actually make a call or use data during it. I'll be curious as to your experience with NV.
  6. The LTE and 3G are using the same chip so there isn't any noticeable battery drain by leaving LTE on for the iPhone 5. With older Android phones it would help as LTE was a separate chip that would be powered down.
  7. Just to wrap this up I tried installing this last night. I had another iPhone 5 next to me that I didn't install the hack so speed comparisons could be performed. In the end it didn't appear to make a bit of difference; speeds were still hovering between 12 kbps and 35 kbps down. Sad day.
  8. Over the past month or so there has been hacked/tweaked carrier updates released for all the major carriers in the US. iTweakiOS just released the latest one for Sprint. It supposedly increases 3G (not LTE) speeds. I'll be trying it out when I get home tonight and will report back my results. Note: This will work on iPhone 5's that are not jailbroken! http://www.itweakios.com/apps/blog/show/27511053-sprint-carrier-update-hack-iphone-5-only-
  9. For verification I have successfully forced my iPhone 5 that is jailbroken running 6.1.2 to use the Verizon 3G network be default. The process involved downloading a PRL (can be found by Googling) and watching a YouTube video on how to change the PRL over. Once the process was completed I was connected to the Verizon towers and generally getting between 1.5 - 2.5 Mbps download speeds. This compares to the 0.05 Mbps speeds I was receiving via Sprint 3G. I had this PRL set for about 20 days before I started getting close to the 300 MB limit at which point a ran the ##UPDATE# command to set back the standard Sprint PRL. This process does count towards your roaming on Sprint, and will show up on your account as roaming. I wouldn't recommend this method unless you are usually connected to WIFI, as you can quickly reach the 300 MB limit. I can try and find the PRL and video that I followed if there's interest.
  10. So in your case Memphis, Greenvilly, and Tullahoma, which are part of the Nashville market, are being launched. Nashville, also in the Nashville market, is not.
  11. It appears T-Mobile will be pushing out a sofware baseband update that will enable current unlocked AT&T iPhones to connect to the new T-Mobile LTE network. The update will also enable MMS and visual voicemail for these phones. http://www.macrumors.com/2013/04/02/t-mobile-to-release-software-update-with-lte-and-visual-voicemail-support-for-unlocked-iphones-on-april-5/ It does not appear this update will add support for the HSPA+ variant T-Mobile utilizes.
  12. Looks like one of the towers just north of Wauwatosa by North and 50th have a permit out from 1/23/2013: http://itmdapps.milwaukee.gov/cgi-bin/Iscola.dll?colaid=biadmin&sid=8458162&colaseq=129225&formid=bipermdt&btnbipermdt=Yes&Taxkey=329-0028-000&PermitNum=1062164&AddrLine=%202325%20%20%20%20%20N%2050TH%20ST I still haven't found a way to look up towers within the Tosa city limits, but ones in the Milwaukee city limits are being permitted.
  13. Ah I see what you're saying. If you have LockInfo, then you can add the clock to the Weather Widget. Just navigate to Settings > Notifications > Weather Widget and verify the "Show Clock" switch is set to ON.
  14. I'm using the default "Weather Widget" with the Replace Background option turned off. I'm not sure if that's available on the iPad since it doesn't have the Weather app..
  15. For those that are curious, I posted on the Screenshot topic some shots of my Jailbroken apps: http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/864-post-your-screens/page__pid__109534__st__100#entry109534
  16. My jailbroken iPhone 5 running iOS 6.1. LockInfo Lockscreen Widgets and Notifications on the lockscreen Unfold Replaces Slide to Unlock with folding animation Dashboard X Add widgets to your homescreen/springboard BiteSMS Similar to ChompSMS on Android. Allows replying and sending of text messages without leaving current app Auxo Replacement task switcher
  17. I'm getting eHRPD at work by the Zoo and also in downtown Tosa where I live. Have been for the past month or so. The one place I'm still not seeing it is out by Lovers Lane north of Mayfair. Might just be the tower I'm connecting to or the weak signal.
  18. Where were you when you saw an eHRPD signal? I'm not quite sure how to look that up on the iPhone field test screen, but mine is only showing 1xEV-DO and 1x.
  19. T-Mobile made the official announcement yesterday at CES. They will be carrying the iPhone in three to four months, but won't be subsidizing the phone; you'll have to pay the full price for the phone up front. The bonus is you won't be locked into a contract and the monthly fee should be quite a bit less than any of the other carriers. Source: Macworld Article
  20. I tried to find a permit lookup function on http://www.wauwatosa.net but wasn't able to find anything. Would love to root through some of the permits and see what's out there.
  21. I was having the same issue on the 31st, seems to have resolved itself.
  22. Will Sprint be doing NV upgrades to the Northern Wisconsin market before the Milwaukee market, or are these two markets going to be upgraded at the same time? I'm surprised to see Northern Wisconsin getting upgrades before Milwaukee based on what I've read of rollout schedules (though they were just estimates).
  23. I just got off the phone with Sprint retention, which is where they send you for your account number to transfer to another carrier. They were quite good at giving the number up, and then transfered me to the technical team to get an update on when LTE would be rolling out in Miwaukee. The tech I talked with stated they do have an ETA to complete the rollout of LTE in Milwaukee of mid July, with a start date in January. This is the first I've heard of an ETA from Sprint, so wanted to let everyone else know. Who knows if this is official or if the tech was just making a guess, but I did state that I hadn't seen any ETAs yet and she was still insistent that these were good. Either way I wouldn't recommend making a purchase decision based on this if you're not already a Sprint customer, but for those who are stuck in a contract this is a little hopeful news!
