  1. ** THE FIX FOR THE 3G fallback with no recconnect **

    You need your device MSL#

    (once obtained)

    dial ##data#

    select LTE

    EDIT

    Type MSL

I changed the LTE scan timer from 5 to 2.

You can also arrange your band priorities eg* mine,41,25,26

This worked for me.  I then walked deeper into my home and lost B26; fell back to 3G- and had reconnected to LTE within a minute or two.

    Your welcome

    Any impact on battery life?

    LG G3

I think it's a valid concern, I just haven't seen the problem. Are you looking at the percentages, or what way are you determining that Wi-Fi is causing the battery drain?

    Sent from my LG G3

I was noticing heavy battery drain due to percentages.  I have been since manually turning wifi on and off since then when I turn on bluetooth.  Real world problems, I know... :D

    LG G3

    I think it's just you.

I've not experienced this problem on any modern smartphone (from any platform or vendor)

Most days I am in the office on Wi-Fi, but a day or two a week I am in the field at least part of the day and don't notice any significant impact on battery life from Wi-Fi scanning.

PayPal has been using more battery than WiFi the last fee days. I'm considering uninstalling it..

I stand corrected, it must have been an anomaly.  I do commute a TON for work >30k per year so maybe that is the reason I've noticed the problem.  I'm done thread-jacking.

    Thanks guys!

    LG G3

Umm, I leave my WiFi on all day, every day and haven't noticed any negative impacts.

Wow, really?  Are you around wifi networks that you AREN'T connected to?  That is the key.  When I'm at home, I will use wifi all day and it SAVES battery.  However, when I'm out and about and leave wifi on especially when driving around town I have noticed a substantial battery impact from it scanning for new networks constantly.  Is this just me?

    LG G3

It doesn't force you to connect to public WiFi. It may recommend it, but after you say no a couple of time it stops.

I don't have any issues with battery drain coming from the connection optimizer. I've posted several screenshots of my battery life, connection optimizer doesn't even register.

Additionally, it does not appear that WiFi is the only thing affected by connection optimizer. I do seem to connect to LTE much quicker while it is running, as long as I have visited the area before.

I guess my point is, doesn't it turn on the Wifi when it sees a public Wifi network that is open.  There are many places including my work that I do NOT want to join a public open Wifi and would rather use my cell data.  This would in turn, cause battery drain because it would leave my wifi on in areas it should otherwise be off.  Maybe this is no longer the case, but I've experienced decent battery drain from wifi being on and not connecting (i.e. searching for networks constantly in the background).

    LG G3

I see no reason not to.

I haven't played with connection optimizer on my phone since my wife's S3, but thought it messed with the wifi settings as well.  Forcing wifi on to connect to public wifi.  Is this not the case anymore?  I'll have to turn it on my wife's S5 because she has been having issues with LTE connection and I never thought to enable this setting.

    Thanks.

  2. I had problems last night, connecting to LTE, but it still happened even when I switched to my m8, check the stl thread for more details.

I just switched back from m8 (which eventually connected to LTE around 130am), to n5 and lte is working as well.

Just a thought, someone in our market had an issue with his N5 connecting and had to reset his account online (block calls / texts / data) then re-enable.  This worked for him, could be pure luck though...

  3. Do you use the streaming capabilities to watch the videos you have saved on the NAS using your TV?

Yes, I am able to use the Buffalo application to access video files from the NAS and then stream to either of my Chromecasts.  Works like a champ as long as the file formats play nice, which for the most part do.

  4. I went cheap with the NAS option and got a Buffalo LS421DE which doesn't come with any drives.  I then purchased two - 2 TB drives off of Newegg and set them up in RAID 1 redundancy.  Love the setup and I'm only using wireless to access the drives.  The applications from Buffalo work well enough for me to access all of my files from any mobile device (Android / iOS) on the fly.  Overall pretty cheap solution considering I got the enclosure on Woot.

    LG G3

The S5 and the G3 both support HD Voice over CDMA. Therefore cellular HD Voice calls should interconnect regardless of handset. As for Voice over WiFi, I suspect that's running a different codec, but I have no way of verifying this. File under "unproven hypothesis."

Thank you for the response.  I guess we'll have to wait and see if someone connects and checks the engineering screen to see what it does.  How does SCP act?

    LG G3

I'm not sure why it would be missing.

    That's definitely an odd thing.

Of those using it, I've noticed that between the GS5, and my G3 the past 2 days...wifi calling sounds MUCH, MUCH better.

Is the chip in the g3 better than the 8974 thats in the s5?

Dumb question, wife's S5 has wifi calling per the latest update and I didn't know if it supports HD voice.  It sounds like the call quality is BETTER w/ wifi calling?  What are your opinions?  I realize this is the G3 thread, but the latest talk has been about it.

    Thanks.

EDIT: Feel free to move this comment if necessary.

  5. I work for JCI and found this article interesting.  At least the airport should be covered regardless of carrier.  If only this was the norm, not the exception.

When people travel today, they can't afford to stop working. That's why the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) in Georgia, USA – the busiest airport in the world – selected Johnson Controls to install and support upgraded wireless internet access. Thanks to our team, 15,000 simultaneous users can now access free Wi-Fi – a seven-fold increase over the previous system.

It's all part of a $5.6 million contract that will help serve more than 94 million passengers annually. In a recent media statement, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed said, "At the world's busiest and most efficient airport, we must continually look to meet and exceed the demands of our customers. Wi-Fi is no longer considered an amenity; it is a necessity for today's travelers."

EDIT: Meant to include the source link.

  6. Downtown is where the most NV activity is occurring right now. I'm telling you, become a standard sponsor. There is a ton of information.

There is a reason why Columbus has some of the most Premier Sponsors here on S4GRU.com. We work collectively and have A TON of information for our market.

I'm not telling you all to become Premier, but at least becoming a standard sponsor.

This could not be more accurate, even a standard sponsor has a wealth of information at their fingertips.
