  1. sprint towers on my roof just been updated to network vision..Tech's were in my lobby with tons of cable and samsung boxes with panels..I asked if they were done and they said sprint clear wire at my site was updated and would be switched on either tonight or tomorrow..80th & bway Manhattan...finally!

Wow samsung makes panels too? What dont they make? I know that they make cars also but sold the division to renault or something

  2. i've learned how much buildings can effect the signal strength so much. i had -70dbm LTE signal where the tower is lit up but as soon as i turned into another street only a block away from the tower, the signal strength immediately dropped to -95dbm. not sure if the site has been completed.

I'm doubting its slower then 3G. That would be pretty sad

It was pulling 6mbps in my apartment when I first got epic 4g and it went down to 1-2mbps and lower than 1mbps on bad days before I changed to note 2. Significantly slower than before and after nv upgrades, 3g speeds were pulling about the same speeds.

  4. Wow consistently 50+!? I'm surprised. I would be perfectly happy with the a consistent upper advertised range. I just want to be able to stream HD videos without buffering and being able to upload HD videos no problem.

exactly my point. i dont need 50mbps speeds. i would rather have 10mbps with 30ms ping with very good coverage indoor and outdoor.

I'm glad there is no cell service in the subways. One last place to put our cell phones away for a bit.

I thought the exact same thing few weeks ago when I tested LTE and it was slow. But two days ago, I was in Flushing on Bowne St and Roosevelt Ave, I got 25mbps dl and 4.3mbps upload. With only three towers nearby on LTE, that is awesome speed. Yes, not 50-60 like some people from AT&T or Verizon, but they aren't that fast in NYC either. Those speeds are from people who live in small towns in middle of no where. I'm satisfied with Sprint and what they have done. now just need the towers in wall street to light up...

two days ago, they turned on a lte tower near roosevelt and parsons blvd and turned it back off at late night. i do not know why they turned it off but i think the tower faces more west than east since i did not get very strong lte signal at my apartment.

  6. i find

While we all would like 30mbps on the downlink, realistically we will never see that on a daily basis, not on a saturated network. Verizon LTE isn't as fast as people make it out to be as well. There is a reason why Verizon advertises 5-12mbps on the downlink, and 2-5mbps on the uplink. Bear in mind, the various Speedtest servers all get loaded, so speeds there may vary. Unless you have access to a private server where you can do file transfer and calculate transfer rate, true speed will be hard to determine.

Comparing speeds is like having a pissing contest, the only reality is wet pavement.

On a device, anything over 6-10mbps is overkill, as there is NOTHING that you can do singletasking that would take up that much bandwidth. Even a XenApp desktop running on an LTE connection would not take up that much bandwidth.

i find ping is more important when it comes to experiencing optimal mobile usage. i have wimax phone and sometimes it pulls off 8mbps but 200ms ping was really slowing things down.

  7. I must say that I am surprised that NYC had 81 updates today. First time I see a number like that. I guess Sprint really is pushing to launch NYC soon. They still have a lot of 3G updated towers and very few 4G towers, except in the bronx but that is fine with me since I have the 4S and I cant upgrade to the iPhone 5 till July for LTE speeds but I have been having much better 3G speeds around NYC. Can't wait till my tower is updated.

How do you know the numbers of updates for today?

  8. How many bars of service? It could be coming from flushing also

maybe it is from flushing but it is odd to have 4g signal when i didn't have it any other day. download speed was around 5mbps and ping was awesome. i didn't have to chance to check the signal strength but it was actually usable 4g. maybe because i was above the ground level.
