  1. One thing that I have noticed about the way handing off works with regards to switching from 3G to 4G and vice versa, if your phone, is constantly accessing that data connection (be it 3G or 4G) it will not hand off, the phone will wait, until its in an idle state, THEN switch. So for example, if your in a 3G only area, and you happen to travel within a 4G coverage area while your phone is accessing data, it will NOT hand off to 4G until the radio is in an idle state! So bottom line, switching to airplane mode will just stop your radio from accessing the network and wake up in the preferred state (hopefully LTE). Also, try to keep those background apps at bay, it will greatly reduce the time it takes to switch radio modes.

Spot on. 100 percent agree. Experiencing the same.

  2. My understanding is (and I may be way off), your phone is converging battery power by not scanning for LTE all the time. However if it finds LTE, it stores data about the connection for future and faster connects.

For example, and again this is just a guess, it scans every 15 minutes. This time, it gets lucky and finds a LTE signal and connects. Once it connects, it takes information from the tower (site I'D or something) and stores it in a table along with the 1x information about that tower. Then, in the future, if your phone connects to that tower's 1x, it knows that in the past there was LTE at that location, and scans quicker to see if it can get LTE.

Maybe this is why when you go to a new area, it takes forever to get LTE (without toggling anything), but once you find LTE, it's much quicker on future connects.

i kind of agree with this because same place where you set the TIMER MENU to scan LTE signals, there is LTE data history log and it seems to save all the LTE towers that you have connected to. I have not felt it was taking longer or shorter but the device is definitely keeping a log of which LTE site you have connected to.

  3. i know that once you know your MSL number and press ##DATA# on the number pad, it directs you to data programming. if you want to edit, you need your MSL number and there are some apps that will get you the number. if you have the access to it then you go to BSR, then TIMER MENU. and choose NEXT LTE SCAN TIMER and i think lowest is now 1 minute. i set mine to 1.

  4. I went to pocono Pennsylvania last weekend for a little getaway from NYC and i was very thankful that I have sprint. in a very rural area where the vacation house was in, I was able to fully stream netflix with very good quality. 3g speed was descent 0.3-0.4 mbps and around 100 ping. tmobile and at&t was not even getting edge there.

  5. I appreciate your help, I was gonna come over to simply get the sero plan $50 a month. But when is it predicted to be 50% done cuz this Verizon bill is killing me good service but pricey ?

if I were you, I will try tmobile for sometime since you dont have to be tied to a 2 year contract and they have good hspa+/started to roll out LTE at a much fast pace than sprint. when the sprint LTE is at 100 percent and triband phones are rolling out, that will be the best time to move to sprint. you are making mistake jumping into sprint right now especially coming from verizon.

  6. The nexus sucks on Verizon too I dumped at after a week bad battery and bad signal

I think I will be making my way over to sprint in 2 to 3 weeks lets go!!!

not a good idea i think. i will wait until at least 50 percent of the towers has LTE and also when triband phones come out.
