Where?
Columbus I know for sure is one of them. @dkyeager can attest to this.

Sprint will end up with quite a 5G coverage advantage on day one. The question is, how long will they be able to hold that.
I'm curious about this as well. We're already seeing Massive MIMO antennas being deployed in other markets.

I think I've figured it out. I'm pretty sure "Extended Network 3G/LTE" is when you are in an "Extended" area. Then "Extended 3G/LTE" is when you are in a roaming area which is horribly confusing.

Are those “separate company” network maps believable for four years from now?
I highly doubt the Sprint one. T-Mobile's maybe.

What is the difference between "Extended 3G/LTE" and "Extended Network 3G/LTE" on the status bar of an iPhone? Who controls whether it says "Extended" or "Roaming" in the status bar?

Project cedar was abandoned.
Casualty of budget cuts.
What happens now? Modifying the current T-Mobile roaming agreement to cover these areas?
-
Anyone have any updates for Project Cedar? Particularly in Missoula.

T-Mobile mmWave licenses:
But mmWave is trash though. We can see that with Verizon's 5G launch flunk.

Sprint along with the 3 other nationwide carriers has been talking about going for CBRS since at least 2017.
600MHz + 2.5GHz + 3.5GHz sounds glorious.

Yes
So I presume everyone else would want to jump in on that? Would Sprint jump in on it or just stay with 2.5GHz?

Everyone is itching to get their hands on CBRS
CBRS is 3.5GHz correct?

Not to be a jerk but he hasn't got much room to talk given Sprints coverage...

The Verge is immediately critical. They say it's really fast but it barely exists.

Yeah we're seeing the major weakness of mmWave.

This data is from ookla
Yeah but I can't find the report directly from Ookla. It's AT&T's "analysis" which they could've put a spin on.

The more interesting takeaway for me is that they're all fast, all good and pretty on par with each other in terms of speed. That's pretty big for Sprint to be included in that group.
Well it's AT&T's "analysis" of Speedtest data so I don't think this data is entirely accurate. It could be but I'm suspicious.

They should have enough speed for VoLTE.
So it'll be forced VoLTE then. Ok, that'll be good.

Helps that Sprint has aggressively been upgrading clear towers to Triband too!
It does but coverage is still severely lacking though.

Which is the reason for roaming agreements with AT&T and T-Mobile
I thought the roaming agreements with AT&T and T-Mobile were data only?

I'm curious as to what will happen with the Verizon roaming agreement since they are shutting down their CDMA network at the end of the year. They provide a lot of voice roaming coverage for Sprint.

2) find another merger partner
US Cellular maybe?
2 minutes ago, dkyeager said:3) abandon service in unprofitable parts of the country by striking a longer term roaming deal with T-Mobile
Totally dismantle towers and expand the roaming agreement? Or discontinue expansion in these areas and expand the roaming agreement?
3 minutes ago, dkyeager said:4) change their name to match their related Japanese carrier and/or merger with them
Become SoftBank US and do a total rebrand?

Project Cedar never really came to fruition. Most of the CellularOne sites were never touched and I believe leases have started to expire.
I was curious about that. Looking at the tower maps nothing really happened. Wonder what will happen to all the sites that are "New Site in Planning - On Air Date TBD".
1 hour ago, RAvirani said:Sprint will need to do something big if they want to stay a major provider/competitor.
Wonder what they could actually do given their current situation?

These are markets where sprint has so many towers and small cells that low band is not needed nearly as much. You wouldn’t be on low band very often where as rural you would be on lowband a lot and provide decent speeds. Sprint can not be the only carrier without rural support. Roaming costs more money than building out.Ok. That makes sense. What do you think of a phased rural low band deployment?

They need to but I don't think that's the best idea right now. I think the best plan right now is to improve service in the cities where they would get the best return on investment.
