  1. True. With the AppleCare being refundable maybe I'll still go that route.

Now to just hold one off to the side for myself when they launch. Although I doubt the stores will get the 6s+ 64gb on launch day.

I'm banking on waiting outside my local store for a 64gb plus. I was also thinking that they might not get that model on launch day. On the other hand, I'm afraid of the annual preorder glitch, and getting locked out of their website, only to finally process an order, and have it tell me "back ordered until November." For those that have successfully preordered, and go into the initial shipment, was your phone at your house on launch day, or is that when it ships?

  2. Would you buy into the raffle?

Personally, I wouldn't, and only because I know I'm getting one, so a (potentially) second one might be pointless. I am, however, planning on donating next week for the Moto X because it seems like a cool device, and would be fun to play with.

  3. I had my iPhone 5S unlocked last year and apparently "ran out" of unlocks, even though I own the device outright now.

You're getting the runaround from Sprint reps. There is NO limit for domestic unlocks per account. There is, however, a limit on international unlocks. Call them back.

Edit: and besides, you don't need both unlocks. A DSU unlocks the sim slot completely, making it fully compatible with an international sim, too. Their specific international unlock is only for traveling customers who don't own their device.

  4. I'm thinking I might switch over to tep if anything at all. Paying for AppleCare when it won't transfer to my new phone next year doesn't make any sense to me. I've never lost a phone or had one stolen so between apple just taking care of it's customers and me being easy on my phone I think I'll be okay.

Either that or I'll just add on tep on my sprint.com account when anything happens.

That's why you should have Apple Care. TEP will cost $132 compared to $99. If you never lose your phone, then paying the $75 Apple Care deductible makes sense for damage such water or a major drop. Apple Care plus 1 deductible is still less than the $200 Sprint deductible plus $132 annual cost.

  5. I sold my iPhone 5S (64 GB) on eBay for $600... I had it carrier unlocked for international use, and some dude from Japan bought it from me.

I'll roll the dice with eBay again -- I bet I can get at least $650-700 for the iPhone 6 128GB in near-mint condition with 1 year of AppleCare+ and international unlock.

Edit: that should partially fund my new iPad Air 3 & new Apple TV purchase!

It is a roll of the dice with eBay, and their 10% cut is terrible. I had a mint, unlocked 6 64gb with AppleCare (still with 2 claims) sell for $610 on eBay last night. It's a little low, but I wasn't getting any bites from Craigslist (which has never happened), and needed to sell it.

  6. I confirmed tonight that the latest PRL update downgraded Bluegrass Cellular from native to extended:

Below is the link to the post where I announced the past PRL update marked BGC as native Sprint:

How can you tell the roaming partner from iPhone field test? I just got back from Wisconsin, and was curious who I was using up there.

  7. I wonder how this works with a leased iPhone?

When I owned my phones/had them on a 2 year subsidy or Easy Pay, when it breaks and I had AppleCare, I could always take it in and it's more often than not swapped, no questions asked.

It's no different. You can buy the extended care for any iPhone that's new, and you can also have it serviced for free within the first year no matter if it's paid in full, on easy pay, or leased.

  8. My original 1 year factory warranty is expiring on 9/26, so I took my phone in today have the screen replaced because the front camera had the "crescent moon" (this is the second time I've had this done). However, the technician ended up just swapping out for a brand new phone (or Apple refurbished - it's better than the year old phone I carried into the store). Nice little perk of how Apple handles its customers. It probably didn't hurt that the store was slammed and I was a walk in, but whatever.

My favorite perk of Apple. You actually received a brand new phone, not refurbished. I've asked numerous employees in different stores, and they do not give customers refurbs.

  9. I was thinking about doing this. Does anyone know if you can preorder the new model when it comes out if I get on the iPhone forever now?

Yes. I signed up 2 weeks ago, and the Sprint site says I'm upgrade eligible as of 9/1, so I can preorder, or walk in and get it. You're upgrade eligible on iPhone forever every time there's a new model. Say you get the 6S in 2 weeks, and apple decides to drop the 7 in March. You'll be eligible for it.

  10. How close are the iPhone PRLs to the ones for Android that can be easily downloaded and parsed?

Forget it. It's been impossible to load a custom PRL to an iPhone since the iPhone 5. Apple changed something starting with the 5s that ended that.

  11. Schlotzskys opened around me I think in '99 or 2000 and I did like it quite a bit, then they closed in 2003. I got reacquainted with them in of all places, Durango, CO. I missed them! After that I made it a point to stop at as many as possible on our trip back home. Oh, another place I miss and desperately want back is Moes! that closed at the end of 2008. I could eat at that place once a week for months and never get sick of it. Can't say that about Chipotle or Qdoba.

We had a Quiznos and then Jersey Mikes took over the spot. They seem to do ok.

Schlotzskys in Orland Park was my first job 14 years ago. They had awesome sandwiches.

Well, it's simple: do you plan on ever leaving Sprint, and don't mind the additional monthly cost? If not, just do iPhone Forever because it's cheaper than easy pay, and you don't have to worry about getting it unlocked and selling it. If you can afford to pay full-price, then go that route. I like this lease because I can go case-less, and not have to worry about scratching the phone. Normal wear is ok for the return, as long as the screen isn't cracked. I was always obsessed with keeping a pristine device for when it came time to sell it.

  13. Wish I could say that, the bar I frequent is maybe half a mile from the nearest tower and I'm barely able to hold onto 3G. It's a fully upgraded tower too but Sprint doesn't know how to optimize. :(

I spent 4 hours in a bar last night for my fantasy draft, and had 3G and 1x inside the whole time. Thank god for wifi. I lost about 50% battery in that span with minimal usage, just from having my phone in my pocket.

I wonder if people who go off on a tangent about signal reception inside a building ever consider the materials used in the making of a building that they are in. Some buildings these days act like faradays' cage in that signals don't get in and out to well, so before you go blasting whoever, think about that.

Understandable, but, the problem is AT&T, Verizon, and even T-Mobile can have their devices NOT lose LTE inside small buildings with windows around the Chicagoland area.

  14. The nexus 5 actually still remains one of my favorite devices. I almost bought one simply for testing Sprints network but sided aganist it because poor.

The price is right on that phone, too. It felt great in my hand, and the edge-to-edge glass is nice. I don't know who is making the Nexus this year, but if it's LG, they only need to beef up the specs on the N5 to have another serious winner.

  15. When I was playing with a G4 a few weeks ago, I also had terrible battery life. The phone ran hot, and drained super quick. This was stock, out of the box with a few apps added. I think skinned Android in general is just a battery draining pig, full of background processes doing a million things. This leaves a bad taste for iPhone users who occasionally take peek at that other side of mobile life. I did like my nexus 5 last year. It was a very fast, clean, no bullsh*t device. If it had a better camera, a better battery, and visual voicemail, I may have used it for a very long time.

  16. I think the 64 is my sweet spot. I have a ton of apps, and around 2000 photos/100 videos, and very little music stored locally (I mostly stream XM). I have everything backing up to iCloud, and I've selected the "optimize photos" option which shaved off 5gb of my storage. I still have 47gb free.
