  1. Has anyone figured out how to pull the MSL for these devices?

It's super easy through sprint chat. For my last couple of devices I've always asked "I need the ##xxxxxx# (xxxxxx being your MSL) code for line [your number]" and they've never hesitated in giving me the info.

  2. I think I may have found a pattern with the duplicate SMS issue. If I'm connected to a Clear B41 tower then texts seem to reliably send. But if I'm on B25 or B26 then they hang and duplicate. I think Sprint B41 (8T8R) also may cause duplicates, but I haven't had a chance to verify that yet.

No issues here with SMS and being on B41 8T8R.

  3. Well this stinks. I spent a lot of money on a tri-band device. If I would have known it was going to be like this I would have held on to my old device and saved my money. Pretty disappointed in this.

If your location is still correct as New Orleans Metro, there is just protection sites there that probably haven't even been touched. I'm not trying to knock your decision... just thought by the time B41 gets mainstream and actually deployed on current Sprint locations around you, you would probably already be looking at upgrading your phone any way.

  4. So, just so we decide ahead of time, are we still grabbing our pitchforks and going after Adam G if Sprint jumped the gun and no update materializes today?  C'mon folks, we need some good old fashioned mob mentality here.  :D

  5. I was wondering if there is a break in time for LTE on the GS5???  I was in an area that I received LTE previously here in Jacksonville on my GS3 but I upgraded to GS5 today and so far I do not get the LTE...  How do I tell which LTE I'm getting since Jacksonville is a SPARK area???

  6. After reading this thread I am disappointed and astonished to hear people talking about the same kind of issues that I had with my HTC Evo 4g LTE and the way it acts with LTE and switching between LTE and 3g. I just can not believe that HTC would not have fixed these issues by now. I really would like to have another HTC phone but I am not sure I would be to happy with the Camera and Radio issues. It is no wonder they are losing money every quarter. It all started after the Original Evo when they went for the Evo 3d gimmick and started having radio issues. I remember people complaining about the 3d radio even. I think the last phone that had good reliable RF was the At&t HTC One x and One x+. I really wish they would just make the best Normal camera possible and get there radio's straight I am seeing a lot of inconsistencies and people returning there M8's looking for proper radio functionality.

I guess it just boils down to your area. If you've got plenty of sites around you, the M8 and other HTC devices that aren't known for their RF capabilities will probably work pretty well. But if you're in an area where there are site spacing issues or in a fringe area... every db counts. To me I would want to have better RF over a phone that has design, sleekness, better UI (just my preference, not trying to start a war). Don't get me wrong, I love HTC and Sense. Now if the M8 could be a RF beast like the N5 I would throw my money at HTC every day of the week.

  7. Got my M8 a few hours ago at best buy.  Ended up with the gold, they were out of silver, but I got over it.  Initial reactions are mixed.  Phone is fast, love the feel, UI, screen, etc.  I feel like I am back on my old EVO 4G, just on super steroids (I loved that phone).

Now, I sit it next to my wifes S3, and notice the signal is anywhere from 1-7 db worse.  The signal is very bouncy on the M8, but the S3 is staying steady.  Both arent moving, sitting on my desk, staring at them.  Could this just be a result of polling time being faster on the M8?

Other thing I notice is that outside I am getting anywhere from +3 to -5 db, rapidly changing, on LTE.  I guess I have to give it a few days to decide if its good or not.

Side note, phone calls and data do work fine, none of the other issues people mentioned so far.

I got to test my N5 side by side this weekend with a M8 and noticed the M8 was anywhere from 7-10 db worse.

  8. This phone holds on to LTE like nobody's business. It held on to Band 41 until -135dbm today and data was still going through. It was slow, but it still worked.

For some reason my phone hooks on to Band 41 and doesn't let go until it is absolutely necessary. Does this device scan that band first?

    I think that's what Sprints plans are/were. 41> 25 > 26

  9. If the M8 is like the last couple of HTC devices you should be able to enable the PRL write function with an edit in the build.prop.

  10. Yeah, nothing comes close to the n5 when it comes to lte connectivity but other than that the m8 wins everywhere else. If you have a specific question though, just ask away.

Does the debug/engineering screens still work?

Edit - never mind I see you answered it earlier in the thread.

  11. Like others have said the M8 is defintely better than the m7 and its about on par with the One Max which also has pretty good rf performance as well.  I would say that the g2 may be marginally better and of course the N5 is in a different class of its own.

Have you done side by side comparisons of the N5 and the M8? I would be interested in that. While I do love HTC design and HTC sense, I love my RF beast N5 better.

  12. If I remember right the KOT49H build was like November 18th and 4.4.2 was release around December 10th. So if its roughly 3 weeks again hopefully we should have the update before the end of the month. I definitely want the update to come out before April 1st for obvious reasons :-)

  13. I've been having this problem:

I don't know why. I've never opened that app. Otherwise, battery life has been fairly normal.

I did notice in KC that B26 seemed to have weird effects on my battery. I think it might have been the CSFB problem, my phone thought it was searching for signal the whole time.

I do notice at work I bounce back and forth from B25 to B26 so I dont know if it is that or what. I haven't any CSFB problems though. Interestingly I just rebooted it at 15% and its been stay steadily there while I've been using it on and off. My current rate for the day has been like 10% every hour haha

  14. This will provide hit and miss results though (read through the last 20ish pages and you'll see). The general consensus is that the early 2014 release date for our spark update is Q1 2014(March 31st). This hasn't been officially confirmed I don't believe.

You're right. I probably should have ended it with "Your mileage will vary".

  15. So I just called Sprint again, they said that my area is spark capable though i'm hearing contradictory info here.  So when I activate my phone this week will i not get spark?

Also, i have read some info about changing setting and making band 41 preferred, does that improve things.

The Nexus 5 does not have the Spark update yet.

Like you mentioned, you can modify the Band settings (with your MSL) and set Band 41 as a higher priority. Some users also flashed the older .15 radio to pick up Band 41.

  16. Anyone noticing increased incidents of incoming calls never making it to the Nexus 5 on LTE, despite having a strong signal? Three days in a row, my wife has come home from work and accused me of bouncing her to voicemail when she tried calling on her way home.. but my phone never rang (I swear!). It was sitting on a table untouched where I always have a solid -85 dB band 25 connection. She said that one of the times it wasn't my normal voicemail (Google Voice) recording either, it was the Sprint recording spelling out my phone number. Weird.

I was going to call Sprint, then I realized I'd rather have an excuse as to why I didn't answer a phone call.. ;)

Just curious if others have run into this often with the N5, or if it's more likely a network thing. I had it happen a few times when I first got the phone in November, but AFAIK, it hadn't happened since.

    -Mike

Same thing has been happening to me. I was having to make test calls from our phone system to my cell and it happened to me. I immediately dialed my number again and it came through. I did get my GV mailbox when the call did not come through. My dad tried calling me the other day and it never came through as well.
