http://wamu.org/news/15/07/27/metro_working_on_deal_with_wireless_carriers_to_end_tunnel_dead_spots
I'll believe it when I see it, but hopefully something comes of it.

I highly doubt B41 was congested to the point of having no data at all. Sounds like the cell site might've just had a temporary issue or your signal was just extremely weak.
Sent from my iPhone 6 Plus
I bet your signal was just too weak. I've experienced that in the past and it started up again with the last S6e update. While I love B41, I wish my phone would better recognize that the signal is too weak and search for B25/B26.

That sounds like it'll kill your battery too. Maybe try contacting Sprint and letting them know so they can hopefully fix this.
I had this issue at DCA during my last travel spurt. Sent a note to Boingo customer service who apologized and said they would forward to the right team. I have a feeling there is a just a bandwidth constraint at National in general. No matter which carrier there is just not enough bandwidth to go around for such a dense airport.
That said, it is much more efficient space wise than the hell that is Dulles.

Speeds where I occasionally hit over 8mbps are now 0.5mbls or less on B26/25. Sprint needs to add capacity soon. :x

LTE in my area Normandy/Cecil Field has been pretty dismal the past days. Normally 2-5 dots but lately only 3G, two dots B26, constant switching between bands.
You guys report it? Sounds like a tower is out.

Apparently in the latest update that enabled CA on certain devices there is a menu to enable LTE roaming. Not that it is active yet, but it is a indication that we are getting closer. Will it take another update to get Nexus devices to LTE roam or will it be a simple profile update?
Hmmm, I've had the LTE roaming option on my S6Edge since I got the phone. Which phones are seeing the new menu option?

Galaxy s6 edge
If you have your MSL, you can edit it yourself using the ##DATA# menu. Otherwise, mine updated today on its own.
(I manually disabled CA and applied a profile update which re-enabled CA)
-
Yes, you can add it and it should work. Although it can take up to 24 hours for your sim card to activate if it hasn't been used abroad before.
Your phone will be on roaming mode, so dont freak out if all the these arnings pop-up. Make sure you connect to Rogers.

Eh.... and Canada is now on the plan!

Is that a Sprint/Clear colocation site?
I don't believe it is a legacy Sprint site, but it did host Nextel. My legacy Sprint tower (Site ID: WA57XC011)
is about 1500 feet southwest at 1120 Vermont Ave NW. That site finally got B25 a few months ago. I assume since it is a nondescript federal office building that slowed things down.

Looks like my local clearwire tower is finally being prepped for conversion! Working on a clearer picture, but permit information is below.
6/4/2015 AN1500122 1230 13TH ST NW
Sprint proposes to remove their existing 12 antennas on penthouse wall and replace with 6 new antennas of similar size and weight. All replacement antennas are to be installed on existing Sprint mounting locations that will become vacant once the existing 12 antennas are removed.

I just happen to be in Reston VA, visiting a friend, and because I because I had some time to waste I decided to do a speed test and I was blown away by the results that I got!
Looks like CA is live out there...

Has anyone else noticed the recent degradation of B41 service on the orange line corridor? I'm secretly hoping they are beginning upgrades for CA.
-
For the first time in my life this worked. Went to about phone, system update and it started downloading.
Same here... it is a pretty large update, either we are extremely lucky or they have changed their staggered approach to updates.
Also, it prompted me to update - I didn't even know we had one until then.
-
Not unless you have the legacy AT&T Unlimited International Data add-on on a corporate liable account.
Very rare but they are out there. I know someone with it - still unlimited to this day.
Somewhere in the deathstar, an accountant is devising a way to free themselves of this burden.

Honestly I haven't been to Rosslyn in awhile, but in both DC and Virginia, I have gotten good signal in buildings with the 800 signal. So my guess is that the signal would be fairly good.
Except of course in the Rosslyn Metro. All mobile phone signal sux in the Metro, and the Rosslyn Metro station is the deepest in the system.
Verizon and AT&T LTE is slowly making its way through each orange line station between Rosslyn and Ballston. I was taken aback by the speed of their deployment. Was this just a software upgrade for them?
Sprint does have native 1xRTT in the stations, so I wonder they all share a similar upgrade path since this must be legacy PowerWave equipment.
The tunnel remains a blackhole for all carriers.

Grand Rapids got Spark coverage today.
In real life or on a map? Either way, exciting!
-
AFAIK that's not an option on apple.
Oh and i forgot to mention one thing... when we landed in the US, neither phone would work. I had to call Sprint tech support from a payphone, explain to them that we kept getting a message when trying to call out... something along the lines of we can't match this phone with an active account... and they had me do the ## code to update the sprint prl and that seemed to fix the problem.
That is weird - I wonder if it is more specific to the iPhone. I've only traveled overseas with my Android and Blackberry.
-
It's an antenna just for you.
But no, not really sure what it is.... could it be a 'low profile' microwave receiver?

AFAIK, you have to contact Sprint & ask them for the domestic unlock. It doesn't seem to be automatic.
Sent from my SM-G925P using Tapatalk
According to their unlock policy it should be automatic, but I am also curious to see how I can confirm my phone is domestic unlocked.
However my phone is UICC unlocked, which I didn't ask for...
Edit: Forgot to mention that I bought mine full priced and thus should be free to port around, if I really wanted too.
-
Yep, I didn't receive any text either.
-
The speed tests were not at the airport, they were in a residential area. Airport had the worst service of my entire trip.
I did not recieve any form of welcome text from Sprint or Movistar.
Yeah everyone I spoke to said that being charged would be impossible, but like you said, Im not confident that the phone wont latch onto a paid provider if theyre all thats available. Thats why I called three times, to make sure there was a record of me being told I would not be charged. I recommend you call the global number just to have that history on your account as well.
I noticed in Scotland that when I left my phone is GSM/UMTS, 'Automatic' selection mode - I ended up on Three/Hutchinson while in the countryside. The good news was that the data connection refused, so maybe that is 'protection.'
-
I also headed to Scotland (large swaths of the countryside is still on GPRS ) last week and had great service on O2. Purchased the 'higher speed' data pack which worked marvelously on both my S6e and my traveling partners S4T. I made sure that our phone was only in GSM/UMTS mode though, it looks like you were using Automatic, which I assume kept scanning for CDMA every once in a while.
Overall, great experience and I hope they add the Caribbean soon!

How much of DC downtown is complete at this point? I've been here a week and the sprint experience has been average. I'm still seeing a lot of 3G on my phone around the area and about half of that time there is no data available on 3G
Where in 'Downtown DC' are you? The golden triangle, federal triangle, metro center, Chinatown?
