  1. Where is the densification in Houston, Dallas, Jacksonville, Tampa? The suburbs anywhere? It's a good thing that work is paying for the Sprint service.

So you have verified that zero new sites be it macro or small cells have been added in any of those cities? Please share, s4gru needs more sources.

If you've been following the Tampa thread, Sprint filed and received four permits for mini-macros in the City of Tampa in December/January. I'm sure there are other permits filed in the Tampa Bay area, but the city has the best permitting system. Mobilitie also filed to install small cells, but it never got issue due to their own issues. Also, trying to put a 70 foot pole in front of someone's house on the most scenic boulevard in the area probably wasn't going to go over very well...

  2. Not that I want to get ahead of myself, but you'd figure they would only have to divest assets in areas both Verizon and Charter have a presence in.

This is probably the most realistic option because Trump has been vocally against more mergers like Comcast/NBC Uni & AT&T/Time Warner, where the content deliverers now own the content providers. It's too early to tell how he would approach similar industries consolidating.

  3. This is my personal opinion but I think that a T-Mobile/Sprint merger is necessary for long term viability of both companies. Failing that, the formation of a common network operating company should be considered. Sprint has not finished deploying LTE and has to start thinking about 5G? Capex is going to kill them.

Historical CapEx may kill them, but there is a way forward as an independent company as long as they can execute on their unique densification plan. Like anything with Sprint, execution has been their biggest weakness.

Our country is large enough to support four major carriers and until there really is a '5G' standard that isn't relying on the LTE framework let's not fret too much about it.

  4. If Sprint is terrible in Orlando which Sprint has deployed more 41 and 10x10 b25 than anywhere in Florida then Sprint just sucks in Florida period. My experience in Orlando is always really good compared to any other city in Florida.

I think it's more of an issue with Celebration versus urban Orlando. The last time I was in Celebration service was pretty bad, but then again that whole town is different...  :P

  5. Gainesville does not boarder Tampa. Its closer to Ocala and Jacksonville. I live in Ocala which is much closer to Tampa but even closer to Orlando. Every other market you mentioned is South Florida and Orlando markets.

Ah sorry, I was not speaking to Sprint markets and as a native to Tampa, I get what you mean. I was speaking to BTAs which Gainesville (326) does border the Tampa Bay BTA (440)(Hillsborough up to Citrus County). http://wireless.fcc.gov/auctions/data/maps/bta.pdf

  6. The market has some band 41 but very few towers are upgraded. Orlando and Miami markets recieved all of the attention last year. Im hoping Tampa, Jacksonville and the panhandle get it this year.

Ditto on B25 10x10, that said - Sprint has started pulling (and been issued) permits  for B41 upgrades in Tampa. So movement resumes on that front.

  7. We can only hope. Sprint has deployed 3CA on sites in DC. Sprint is also bringing 3CA COWs for additional capacity.

Hopefully there's a peripheral benefit for 2CA devices from the third carrier being deployed.

Have we confirmed that though? Based on the logs we discussed on the local thread, I don't know if we can confirm a third carrier is live in the District.

  8. Yeah they are. Sprint only has a hotspot at this point where they are good but move out of it and the data speeds get really bad. I hope at least a few make it here this year. Even 5 towers combined with HPUE devices will make for a good experience. I'll tell you every site I pass in Orlando that is 8t8r is active with 3xCA and alot has 10×10 b25 also. Whatever happened with that Jacksonville spectrum swap?

I've been checking in on the outstanding spectrum swaps and they seem at a standstill per the FCC website. Really frustrating.

  9. About time. Tampa is far behind Orlando and Miami in band 42 deployment and Jacksonville is really far behind.

I didn't realize Tampa was that far behind, the network seems pretty solid within the city core. The airport has improved, but could still use a DAS.

  10. I could be wrong but from what I uncovered during my own research I'm pretty sure if it's a state road then state ROW procedure applies so the VDOT approval covers it and the county can't do anything.

Understand your point, but in this situation they were supposed to get local approval as part of VDOT's tentative approval. They did not which continues to show Mobilitie really just doesn't seem like a good partner.
