  1. Sprint definitely knows where their customers go.  Because their roaming bills show them.  In the past, it has been said that Sprint prioritizes where they add additional sites based on where they pay roaming fees.  And that's a smart way to prioritize.  This is for coverage adds.  Quality and capacity adds are done by network monitoring and customer reports.

Moral of the story -  Marcelo is watching you sleep at night.  :P

  2. This is not probably the same market, but my mother in law is picking up Sprint LTE in Mt Airy (Frederick County) in house and outside... It keeps stretching towards Frederick... Be nice if it progressed enough by Christmas even if its not official. :)

Actually, Mt. Airy is the last stop before you cross into the ever lucky Baltimore market. It seems every so slowly backhaul is being delivered and LTE is going on-air. Maybe do some yoga or zen exercises while you wait.  :)

  3. Something is going on with band 25 lte, it is showing but not any data coming across, had to switch my phone over to 3G mode only. Been happening since yesterday, and no it is not my phone. Sprint knows.

Is this out in the burbs? Only having moderate SMS issues here in the city. Been bouncing between B41 and B25 without any major issue.

  4. Interesting that B26 is popping up all over. I am currently in the middle of my first trip to our Short Pump offices since my summer break and have noticed a definite uptick in voice/text 800. Previously, were my phone would fight for a non-working (voice/text would rarely work) 1900 signal on campus, now easily drops on 800 and works splendidly. Sure it isn't everyone's desired LTE, but anything is an improvement over the legacy network.

I am very close to recommending Sprint to local coworkers!

  5. Downtown San Francisco didn't show LTE coverage on Sprint's maps until the September 4th revision... And San Francisco is on that launched list...

DC shows LTE coverage on the same map revision, but DC isn't on the launched cities list.

I wouldn't officially announce DC yet. While LTE is mostly present in DC, there are still some gaping holes in reality and people will notice. Hopefully, it is just a few more weeks. No need to formally announce LTE service when it really isn't up to snuff yet. Especially, in this hyper-connected DC environment.

  6. Here's the list of updates in NG5:

    • HD Voice Icon support
    • International Wi-Fi Calling support
    • Google security patches

The official release date is listed as 8/27/2014. Please post when you get it. I tried the manual update method and plugged in to my computer and tried through Kies. Neither option had the update available yet.

Ah the mystery of the Google/Samsung/Sprint staggered update roll out.

  7. I think sprint could and should consider putting some 25/41 bands on the shutdown nextel sites to add more density.. This would help get more consistent speeds and on 1900/greatly increase coverage and of course band 41..

This would also give people a much better perception of sprints LTE..

Many complaints are that it spotty and slow..

I think we all hope this and with the new leadership team, it may be more of a possibility. Unfortunately, only time will tell how many legacy Nextel sites will be converted. Right now, Sprint needs to focus on getting NV1.0 complete (B26/B25) and maybe with NV2.0 we will see more legacy Nextel sites transform into NV2.0 sites. Hopefully, they didn't terminate all of the leases.

  8. Part of the Washington DC market as well.

Surprised Columbus didn't make the cut. Most cities would have launched with the number of completed sites there.

I love the hard lines on the official map. Looks like our friends in Montgomery County, MD are getting the 'official' love embrace from Sprint corporate. Northern Virginia (within the Beltway) shouldn't be too far behind.

  9. Is DC still "languishing?" I thought maybe they'd resolved by now whatever issues they were having. Apparently not.

I feel for you DC peeps!!

I'm convinced they sent all of our crews south to deal with Richmond's Motorola hangover. That said, I check permits on a regular basis and haven't seen anything new issued or filed. Although, the Sprint Network improvement tracker is showing a new tower complete in my neighborhood. Lucky for me I can take pictures of it from my balcony.

  10. The problem with Frederick county Maryland is the city of Frederick within it. While the county is conservative, the city is part of the liberal progressive side that plagues mostly the eastern side of Maryland and so does it's rule making processes. The city sits right smack dead in the nexus of the county were I70@I270 being the major population center of the county with the rest of the county being rural. It is I that said the city held things up being that they finally issued the permits back in late March for the build out to happen, and I still stand by it.

Not sure why this is going political, although that would be a DMV thing to do. That said, taking a look at the city permits most were issued within 15 days and only one took more than a month (Looks like it was ontop of a water tower and required an FAA letter since it is on the water tower. Having recently visited Frederick County (and City) for my sister's wedding, I can see why the city has different rules to protect the unique nature of it's urban core. There are very few, lively, small cities like Frederick left and if I lived there I wouldn't want big box retailers to come raging in.

Anyways, as mentioned, there are a multitude of reasons why things slowed to a crawl for a while. It could easily have been that most metro DC crews were sent south to blanket Richmond. The progress in RVA was truly astounding to me, basically the whole city was covered within a month. In a nerdy way, it was kind of amazing to see my GS4T go from unusable to more reliable than my work issued VZ iPhone.

I am also very curious who the primary backhaul provider is out in Frederick. I know Comcast would be the primary AAV, but something smells of Verizon....

  11. This seems like a familiar post I am about to make, but we are a day away from July and still no LTE in Frederick. However some recent threads from Sprint Customer care makes a comment of upgrades ARE now scheduled for Frederick for sometime. I realize they can't commit to a time frame.

I thought maybe I read (or was dreaming) that the Frederick city council was a potential road block in this very long process??

I made a post a while back that i hit over 1 meg through put with 3G service and 2 bars of service.... That experience has never returned. Is it safe to assume this might help support the notion that they are ACTUALLY doing something in the area and that service fluctuations are normal with said service enhancements?

I dunno... I hope I am not trolling, but nicely complaining about this extended waiting time for LTE service in 21701.

I don't think you are trolling and empathize with your situation. Not sure where you heard the city council caused the delay, but there was a point where the last few towers to be touched were in City limits. It looks like those are now complete and the remaining towers are within County jurisdiction. That said, the wider delay is most likely due to back haul delays.
