  2. In the DC metro area, Clear Channel (err sorry 'iHeartMedia') has a pretty comprehensive HD radio stack and it sounds a lot better than traditional FM. That said, I with Norway aiming for an FM shutdown in 2017, I wonder what our broadcasters will follow in ten years. Would be nice to refarm that spectrum....

Sure, streaming and data is the future, but our cellular coverage isn't ubiquitous enough for everyone to ditch traditional radio.

  3. Doesn't sem to matter where I am here in NE MA....even sitting in my living room, the phone constanfly switched between bands 26, 26, 41, all of which show between -93and -115 signal strength. What I am curious about is why does it not consistently stay on the band with the nest signal? It literally changes bands every 5 seconds or so.

This occurs sitting at home, driving to work or while at work.

    Thoughts / suggestions?

If you dig a little bit deeper into the forums and wall posts, you'll understand that this is how NV is supposed to work. In essence, the network proactively decides which band your device should be on taking into account the devices capabilities and network needs. So if B25 is overloaded with a bunch of single band users while B41 is humming along, the network would tell your device to pickup and move.

Although, depending on the level of 'constantly,' it could be a variety of factors.

  4. Looks like they're back to the old site.

They are probably testing it with a certain percentage of visitors to see how they interact with it. I bet in the next few months we will see it take hold across the enterprise. Hopefully, this will coincide with a redesign of the front and back ends of MySprint.

  5. In a high tax state in a high tax city?

    That'd be a big clue they're clueless.

For a call center maybe, but maybe this is a HQ move? Talent needs are much different if it is a HQ move. All pure speculation though.

I have a feeling this is really just the launch of the new Sprint - showcasing what Sprint can DELIVER with the right resources.

  6. Thanks for the link!

I have always found it irritating that I don't get cell service in the Metro rail system.

I always thought that Verizon phones got coverage in the Metro tunnels, but after reading the article, I guess not.

Verizon phones do have better coverage, but it has certainly deteriorated since PowerWave half converted the network. Now all of carriers are sort of in limbo....

Bean Boots?  Really, those duck looking things?  We had a utility pair of those in my family almost 30 years ago.  I think we even got them at the flagship store in Freeport.

Along those lines, I recall about a decade ago a student quipped to our campus newspaper that the school should be renamed University of The North Face.

North Face? It is ALL about the Patagonia and Barbour now.

  8. At 9000 tower's/sites it roughly 180 per state Maryland has 23 counties that would be 7 or so per county in a real world, wonder if Sprint will do this in a real world way.

This is all speculation, but as noted in the article it will rely on a multitude of factors. In terms of Maryland, I could see little growth in Western Maryland (do people still live there? :P ), but places like southeastern Frederick receiving new towers due to the suburbanization along I-270.
