  1. The LTE is not live anymore on that site, is it? It is showing 3G only in the Sprint database since late summer. I probably need to change it back. It will probably not go live with LTE again until they upgrade the backhaul. It received the beta test copper backhaul, which Sprint rejected.

I still can't believe that century link thought they could get away with that garbage copper backhaul. Either Sprint wasn't upfront about their needs or century link engineers are clueless/scammers.

  2. I find it very revolting that they would send this text if they don't plan to live up to their promise.  You know that a whole lot of people are going to see the "1 month" part of the text (that some received) and hold them to that.  Why set yourself up for failure?  Unless they are going to press a button and light up half of ABQ with LTE in an instant then I don't see how this promise will hold true.

  3. With the delay of Centurylink, it makes me think that I should not expect LTE until the summer (at the earliest). I have been able to stream music almost all over town now. I don't really have any complaints except for the delay of LTE. Anyways, I know it is coming. Just wish sooner.

I feel that some of the sites around town have to have fiber. The tests we've performed at some sites can't lie. Unless Sprint waits to integrate lte in a cluster here, I don't see a reason why we won't see lte in the next month or so. Maybe...hopefully...please... ;)

  4. I understand the willingness to move, but NM needs to seriously looking at the number of graduates that are leaving the state. This is starting to become a concern of mine with the ABQ Economic Development Forum. There are not a sufficient number of jobs with skills in the city (or state).

It's pretty tough here right now. The biggest engineer employers are the labs. Sandia will always look out of state to hire someone before in state, it's very odd. Los Alamos, where I worked previously, just doesn't have the money right now. There are some other small firms, but most need mid career folks. We'll probably end up somewhere else. I just hope it's somewhere with mountain biking and skiing ;)

Sorry for briefly side tracking the thread...

  5. I expect them to start going live around d the same time too. To clarify, the fiber was being installed at the I-25 and St. Francis site (which still hasn't even been accepted 3G). He said they were working on other sites around Santa Fe too.

My bad about the site... My brain has been fried recently due to the never ending job search.

  6. Nope - its gotta be location based because my account address is in Texas and I live in Santa Fe.  I mean I guess it could mean improvements are coming to Santa Fe but I really doubt that since we're basically living in the stone age there (hyperbole - obviously).  i work in Albuquerque so I'm here everyday, though.

I wouldn't be so pessimistic.  Before Robert moved away he ran across someone installing fiber on the site on the hill just south of Santa Fe.  I expect to see ABQ and SF to come online with LTE around the same time.

  7. So I got this text message from sprint

SprintFreeMsg: Over the next month, the new network will be largely completed in your area. See new phone offer at http://sprint.us/upgrade1 Reply S to stop.

Now what am I to believe? I sure do not think there will by any LTE in Alamogordo, or even Las Cruces either.

It might have been sent to everyone connected to our core, aka everyone in our market.  I, however, did not get it.

  8. Can sprint theoritically just buy Tmobile's edge only towers and just convert them to network vision sites with 2.5?

Why would they do only that? If Sprint wants more rural coverage, what I'm assuming you implying they would gain by buying their edge only towers, they can just put their network on those towers and pay the lease to the tower owner. I don't quite see what you are getting at?

  9. This should me amazing, because I live 3.1 miles away from the nearest tower, and have no service in my house, and terrible service outside. I usually have to keep my phone on the windowsill if I'm expecting a call.

In the meantime, you could definitely see about getting an airave from Sprint for free. It will give you native coverage in your house so you don't have to worry about missing phone calls.

  10. I am not worried about my house as it is brick. I have problems at my work. I work in the Wells Fargo building on Louisiana and it would be nice to have a signal when I enter inner rooms.

When there was smr testing at the Yale and Cesar Chavez site last fall I was picking up signal in basements all around UNM. Places that never had signal before.

  11. I hate to be so stupid, but so what does that mean for NV? There is a sign something is being turned on?

We already know that new hardware has been installed at most of the sites in ABQ. We have seen some faster 3g around town even. With the turning on of smr voice, your will see an insane increase in voice coverage. Take my experience today for example, I was picking up a usable voice signal miles away from the broadcasting site. What this means for lte, don't know. What it could mean is that there are still NV crews in the area which could mean lte integration could, and I emphasize could, be imminent.
