  1. My GS3 shows EHRPD north of the loop, and I don't see any way to determine that on my iPhone 4S, although I know the debug screens are a little different on the 5

You won't be able to see EHRPD on your 4s as it is only utilized for lte capable phones.

  2. If there were no device subsidies, I would not be able to afford a phone ever. So I like the subsidy model.

Of course you could. Look at whatT-Mobile is startig to move towards. They do not subsidize, but they are going to offer financing. Meaning you just pay a payment on your phone every month. Basically this allows people with cash up front to buy the phone or others to pay an extra $20 on their bill, which should be similar to now when the fees mobile providers are passing on to us because of subsidies go away.

  3. There is no incentive for major phone makers to make phones cheaper with the subsidy system. The phone maker can charge their $700 a phone to the carrier and they know they will pay it because customers will go where the best phones are (in general). If carriers were out of the loop with phone subsidies, true competition would ensue and drive prices down. For now, if you were a phone maker, why in the would you stop taking the enormous profits that carriers are forced to pay you.

  4. I have a burning question that I cannot find an answer to on the Internet (if that's possible). When sprint gets LTE advanced, will the iPhone 5 and the GS3 support the new features (Carrier aggregation, etc)? And what other phones can use LTE-A?
if I understand correctly they will not.

  5. Hi,

I've had the Sprint iPhone 5 since november and have been getting great LTE coverage where I reside since then. However, for the past 2 days my phone is only able to connect to 3G and doesnt even find an LTE signal where I live. Any ideas why they would take the tower down as its already visionized??

Live around Grand mission area of Richmond, TX.

    Specifically

    xxxxxx Rocky Ridge Lane

    Richmond, TX 77407

I would call Sprint and insist they put in a service ticket if you are in a officially launched lte market.

warning to Albuquerque nv watchers. I saw some more trucks at cell site by unm Saturday and went over to ask the guys if they were with Sprint when they responded they were working on the tower for att, maybe they are getting lte here? Anyways if you see a tower being worked on know that att is doing work now too.

  7. sorry for the remedial question but, will the gs2 remain 3g after the NV upgrade or will it be capable of 4g-ish speeds? i realize it won't be lte but, i'm hoping for some improvement. i did search the forums and the internet but, couldn't find anything definitive on this particular phone/upgrade
you will be on 3g, no lte. But 3g speeds should be much improved and hovering around 2 mbps in some instances.

Yep, if I-40E to the Texas state line is going to be without SMR 800 MHz, Sprint might as well skip LTE 1900 on those sites, too. The Alamosa legacy CDMA1X 1900 coverage on that route is already stretched incredibly thin. LTE 1900 coverage would be like a series of hotspots along the Interstate.

just does not make sense to have all these ground mounted areas. Seems every tower all the way to cruces along the highway is.

I've not done an exhaustive review of other markets, but in my general observations I would say no. For instance, the Kansas market has less than five. And the Kansas market has double the sites of ABQ. The ABQ market has 58 ground mount sites. Almost 20% of all sites in the market. The sites with No 800 are all within the 75 mile international boundary and subject to our agreement with Mexico.

I can tell you based on my observations of the Ground Mount sites here in the Los Alamos/Espanola/Santa Fe area, only the Santa Fe Opera, First Baptist Church and the Campground sites cannot support normal mounted RRU's. And the three sites that cannot, are within 30' of the ground and they can be mounted pretty darn close to the panels. In my opinion, they all could support LTE RRU's, if Sprint wanted them to.

    Robert

You should contact them with your findings/suggestions ;) Thanks for the map! So basically, the no 800 sites are tower mounted rrus but just can't have 800 because of the international laws you mentioned?
