Same thing happened to my E4GT yesterday. Sprint said it was defective and ordered a new one. I think the network is defective not the phone, but hey at least it's a new phone.
I agree with you, but its wierd that it stopped working randomly. The new phone I just got is working perfectly.

I can't confirm, the manager said those were the only phones the system would allow for an exchange but I was told by the tech that corporate stores(the manager I'm dealing with is from a corporate store here) were able to make exceptions to offer exchanges for any type of phone as long as there was a problem with the original model the customer bought.
The problem is the manager at my store isn't tech savvy at all and claims that these 3 phones are equal.

In July, I upgraded my OG Evo4g in order to get the Galaxy nexus which was on sale back then.
The first phone had a ton of stock apps force closing randomly (this happened right at the sprint store as the tech was activating it)
Second phone on the same day seemed okay, took it home and started experiencing a ton of dropped calls. Thought it was an issue with the tower but only the nexus had this problem and when I took it to sprint they replaced it claiming it had a bad radio. Sprint offered me an Epic 4g touch or a LG viper. I took the same model because none of the above compared to the Nexus in terms of specs and features.
phone #3 (Which I still have right now until I get it replaced tomorrow) Won't send text messages and constantly sends all incoming calls to voicemail. I filed a network ticket to see if it was an issue with Galaxy Nexus phones but it turns out I was the only one experiencing this issue. The galaxy nexus phones at 3 different sprint stores were working fine.
Sprint took a look at it for around 3 hours yesterday and they couldn't determine the problem so they once again low balled me offering me a refurbished LG Viper or a Refurn Epic 4g touch. I declined because none of those phones come close to the gnex specs.
Phone #4 arrives tomorrow, I hope it works I'm digging jellybean
Sorry for the long post, thought I'd share my experience with you guys

well this is odd, ive been on wifi all day and my phone wont connect to any data at all. My other OG evos are though

Weird... what does your EVDO engineering screen show on the AA/AAA auth?
Wonder if they have an issue with the GNex AAA Keys in their database causing you not to auth. This would do exactly what you are talking about. It would try several times then fall back to 1X. Saw this back in the day when I tried to EVDO roam on VZW before they auth'd everyone.
You are SID 5142 for your area?
SID 5149 auth says none

thats on debug mode right? i may need to call sprint to get my msl and the tech did say something about the SID of the phone or something.

I can't speak for the gs3 but there is definitely a problem with the gnex connecting with data. When I am in st. thomas(and PR) if I reset both my evo and my gnex, my evo will connect to 3g right away but it would take anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes, if not longer, for my gnex to finally connect to 3g. There is definitely an issue specific to the gnex for sure.
The icon at the status bar says 3g but in my case its not accurate, go to settings>about phone>status and check for 1x or Evdo.
mines says 3g at the top and 1x in settings.

I think someone is feeding you a line of bull on the database thing.

I don't know what it is man, I went to 3 different sprint stores and the galaxy nexus phones were having the same issue. I called CS about it and they told me that samsung devices had a different way of connecting to sites and needed to be configured by the engineers.
At least the lady from CS is calling me every day to give me updates on the situation instead of saying "we're making network improvements"
She told me she would call me tonight so lets see what happens.
-
And that's with PRL 25006?
Correct

Curious to see if LTE works for you guys in PR with the current PRL.

Digi, I checked out the reason I was only getting 1x... Apparently theres a problem in the network database of Puerto Rico & the Galaxy Nexus phones. At least thats what the techs told me.
I went to 3 different sprint stores (Mayaguez, Roosevelt Ave and Fajardo) and all of the Galaxy Nexus phones were having the same issue 1x only(All of the other phones were in EVDO RevA).
I only got offered an LG viper or to wait for the engineers to fix this. I had to call to open a network ticket and the lady who answered the phone seemed to know what was wrong. She told me it would take around 72 hours to get this sorted out.
But the good news is... I got JellyBean

Yeah, unless you fixed your ROM it always shows 3g. Sprint accidentally over wrote the 1x icon with 3g on all of their smartphones. Imagine that!
If so, wow you get a double upgrade. 3g and 4G upgrade!

Its the Galaxy Nexus with its crappy radios
I went to the sprint store and all they could offer me was an LG Viper since its a compareable model -,- (according to them )
Also the manager thinks I'm crazy and go complain about my phone because I don't have anything else to do. This is the third Galaxy Nexus I've received from them.
-
Apparently I'm between 2 sites. Since theres little signal inside our dorm we are connected to two different towers. The evo is on EVDO RevA with -105 dB and the Nexus is on 1x with -86dB to a different site nearby.
-
You only have 1xRTT there?
Phone registers it as 3g as far as the icon near the bars go. But yeah, thats all we're getting here I don't know why. Let me check my sisters OG Evo and I'll report back in a few mins.

About damn time, especially for a Nexus device.
-
Are you guys seeing eHRPD connections here?
From what I could tell in the PRL, they will need to add the correct MCC/MNC record for the PR Geographic area to make LTE work.
How can we verify? For testing purposes I was running CM10 on my galaxy nexus but reverted to stock 4.0.4 just in case anything got screwed due to having a custom rom.

Yeah I heard that the bayamon core was a key part to this whole process but I hope we get some improved 3g speeds soon. I'm a student at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez and it just sucks to have 1 bar(or -105dB) of 1x coverage inside the campus.
AT&T and Open Mobile have LTE and T-Mo has HSPA+
-
Hmmm, how bad is it for you? I was down there last winter and I was getting fine 3G signals, enough to watch netflix at sort of low res on.
you were probably around a metro area, I'm at Mayaguez which is the west side of the island. I barely get enough for whatsapp conversations!
Its around 149kbps and 601 ping
-
Hey guys just wanted to create a thread for Puerto Rican residents to report the new LTE sites around the island.
around a week ago I noticed the site by the Mayaguez Town Center (posted by another member in another thread) had people on it working aswell as the new panels.
sprint really sucks in any part of the island right now, hoping to see NV soon to get improved 3g data.

The insurance from sprint covers defects with the phone and they will try to fix it for free(if its a defect and if they have the tools and parts at the store, if not they will order you a refurb phone).
The insurance part will run the deductible but thats if the phone gets accident damage or stolen (like a cracked screen). The battery of my OG evo started to crap out after a year and a half of owning the phone, took it to sprint (with insurance) they tested it and they ordered me a new battery.
Trust me, I've dealt with a ton of these issues with several phones on my account after the warranty (1year) ran out.
Infact, some stores (like the roosevelt) wanted $35 to swap one of my og evos that was still under the OEM warranty (phones LCD would turn on and off randomly and I had no insurance).
I took it to another store where they made me jump through hoops about the warranty until I got it replaced(without paying those $35). After it was all said and done I added insurance to all of my phones to avoid the hassles.
