1. Hopefully things will get a kickstart by tomorrow

Not related to our market, the wilson company just released the wilson sleek 4g with support for sprints 1900mhz band and 800mhz. I own the 3g version of it and it works wonders (got it on sale in The McDill AFB in FL for $50 last summer).

The reason I want one is that I occasionally use my sprint mobile hotspot and get little to no LTE inside my apartment due to a hill between the isleta marina site and my room.

  2. Does anybody know if this network crews work on Sundays here in Puerto Rico??

Highly doubt it. But it could be possible under certain circumstances.

The network.sprint.com page gets updated on business days only. Since Semana Santa starts tomorrow The crews would be working until Thursday IF they do work at all during the week. Depends on Ericsson's calendar.

  3. Its good to see how technology is being put to good use for people like your brother. It amazes me to think about what phones will be able to do in the next few years.

Same goes for cars, they literately park themselves nowadays, soon they will drive themselves :)

  4. I think its a possibility for Verizon to come back. Open mobiles technology would play well with theirs & All major US carriers are here. VZW left the island in order to dump "La Telefonica"(The Puerto Rico Telephone Company which is worthless to many) to Claro/America Movil in 2007.

Heres a brief history on how the VZW/Claro deal went down.

Regarding a bit of NV and the rollout, I can confirm the last site in Fajardo(the one nearest to Ceiba) is broadcasting LTE. Fajardo is now 100% LTE complete according to network.sprint.com

  5. Yes. Its working on Río Hondo and some parts of Cataño. LTE is available close to the Buchannan toll and continue until Dorado.

With the sites complete to be honest, I have only few drops calls. Until today, I only have maybe one drop calls in weeks in the new coverage area. I agree that’s the network is a lot much better right now.

I have a friend that is always performing bandwidth test with his AT&T iPhone 5. And let me tell you that when I have 4g I beat him 99% of the times . When I’m in 3g he beat me 105% of the time, :ninja: . Our theory is that AT&T network is very congestioned because in Puerto Rico they are the 1st company in Puerto Rico and have to many subscribers. But Sprint has less custumers on their network. Network is free for us!!! :D

Only for your Knowledge, Sprint is the 5th company in Puerto Rico. Is under OpenMobile. Order is 1) AT&T 2) Claro 3) T-mobile 4) Open Mobile 5) Sprint 6) Others prepaid companies. But don’t believe me for faith. That information comes from an independent study from a research company named Estudios Técnicos in San Juan.

Soon Sprint will have more customers, because their network is improving drastically and people like us is starting talking about that and the good quality of their 4g, the good plans and the awesome customer service. Non paid annoucement ha :tu:

Rumor has it that VZW bought open mobile. They're planning on coming back to PR I guess.

  6.

Don't under sell Puerto Rico. Its an important market to all the carries if you take into account population density per tower.

I know...but after 2 years I sort of got used to having crappy service and no hope for wimax(back then when I had an OG Evo).

Sprint had to do something since everyone had better service than them up until now that NV kicked in(well claro had edge and bad service in the metro area for a while lol) :)

  7. I'm currently using a Galaxy Nexus, which is well known for crappy RF Performance and poor battery life.

I am ready to sell this phone back to Sprint, not only for it's poor RF performance and battery life, but also for it's idiosyncrasies of stock Android (it doesn't split long texts, no visual voicemail to name a few).

Been missing iOS. Had an iPhone 4 and iPad, loved the OS and more than that the apps. But, if I am going to do this the phone has to be better than the Nexus.

Battery life I presume will be good; the Nexus will get me to Noon with the stock battery with medium usage, I presume the iPhone 5 will get me to the end of the day, if it's in any way similar to the iPhone 4 (maybe even through to the next day). This is one thing that Apple has figured out.

One thing that a lot of reviewers don't mention is RF performance. How well does the phone hold a signal, and is it capable of making calls successfully in poor signal areas?

Thanks for any insight regarding this. I realize I can buy the phone and try it for 14 days, which I will more than likely do in the near future, but in the meantime I'd like to hear it from people that have used the phone for a while.

I went through 5 replacements galaxy nexus phones. Bought an s3 out of my pocket and it was amazing compared to the nexus. Then a buddy sold me his iPhone 5 when he switched carriers for cheap.

I currently go back and forth on both phones and I think they're both solid performers rf wise. I like the 5 more because its simple and the battery lasts quite a while more in my experience.

  8. Well if Wifi is that prevalent then yeah, it's always gonna yield better battery life than 3G/4G since there's no constant scanning on the phone's part for better signal or closer towers etc... Was just putting it out there since you said you were losing 50% of your battery in a matter of 4 hours, I imagine that's with wifi off?

My bad for the confusion, I meant that when work started I used to have data on all of the time then. I recently switched to just wifi and my battery is lasting up to 5pm under the same conditions. :) I can't wait for the rest of the NV sites to get LTE, I'm in love using Pandora in my car with zero interruptions.

I still can't believe PR got LTE ahead of other markets(I mean it because they didn't leave us as a 3rd round market) instead we are one of the first markets to be 100% complete :)

  9. Yeah, you can switch it to use 3G / EVDO only to avoid the drain from all the tower switching/scanning... Bit of a hassle but better than taking such a massive battery life hit or not having data at all. I imagine wifi cuts in and out too as you move thru campus.

Not really, having wifi helps because there are a few repeaters around the campus with the same SSID so I'm connected in 95% of the areas I move through. I turn off celular data since wifi has given me the best battery life up until now.

  10. Fajardo coverage should be getting decent now with 3 sites, and the nearby one in Loquillo.

Robert via Samsung Note II via Tapatalk

Yup, theres 2 towers left in fajardo without live LTE , 1 near el pueblo and another near ceiba. The tx power on the luquillo site won't be strong enough to get close to fajardo since there a lot of mountains and slopes on the way there.

  11.

And besides I have been following the LTE network here since day 1 and never we're my speeds so low until I started using the iPhone 5. Last week I was standing with a friend and she got 27mb and I didn't get past 5. That's why I am asking what speeds are people with iPhone 5 are getting.

    Try this

    Update the data profile

From the home screen, tap Phone.

On the keypad, dial ##873283# and tap Call.

    Tap OK.

Your device searches for profile updates and installs them.

    Tap OK.

After it completes, your device returns to the keypad.

    Tap the Home key.

You've now updated the data profile.

  12. Driving my every day route I noticed increased data performance. Normally when driving from UPRB to Plaza Rio Hondo I would have problems like:

Siri reporting network issues when I tried to speak commands through my speaker.

Pandora randomly lagging and skipping when connected to my car.

But today I did all of that and didn't have a single problem :)

Voice coverage is terrible but improving. Does the fact that sprint is upgrading their network(data-wise) affect the voice services? It would be great if someone could explain this to me. I get a ton of dropped and choppy calls while driving around Bayamon and Guaynabo.

As always thanks for the responses :)

  13. Actually, the second Fajardo area site had LTE accepted yesterday. The one on the island.

    Robert

If its the one on the little island its called Isleta Marina :)

Coverage related, I've been getting a TON of dropped calls every day in the following areas:

    Costco near UPRB

Barrio Palmas in catano(right in front of the Palma's Station site) had to redial 10 times that day

Guaynabo near the Martinez Nadal train station

Plaza del Sol at the West Main Ave.

This should be a sign that work is underway and will be completed soon.
