What does that mean for us who preordered

That is what I am hoping for. My hope is for timely texting and stable voice. Data would be cool, but I will use wifi anyway.
Don't get your hopes up for timely texts. All towers around my house are upgraded and I get delays
-
That activation fee is bs anyway....I will be calling to try to get it waived

I might have to start using Google voice to text because texting through sprints network is terrible since there are huge delays at times. do u get many delays receiving texts through Google voice? It's been interesting to watch the google voice app evolve. it used to stink at pushing txts through, then problems sending...
Now it has a very nice "queued" "sending" "not sent" "retrying" "sent" progress report. It's extremely rare that a text can't send - just might take a minute, but you can continue texting and they'll eventually make it through.
It doesn't happen often, but in a loaded area, it might take a minute for them to work through.
Given all of the problems people have with Sprint's text messaging, I am not sure one is necessarily better than the other - both have their ups and downs.
The biggest win for me is streaming live radio and texting. If I text over sprint, it drops me down to 1x and because I have an active data session, it won't revert back to EVDO. I prefer to keep my EVDO

that's what upsets me. I forgot what smaller carrier had their phone go through the fcc but it had four different bands for lte. Sprint could have done itIt would most likely cost more to produce the phones, taking away from Sprint's bottomline on devices. Also, they can try to sell you a new device next year when the service is live. It's all about the all mighty dollar...
-
yeah I don't see why they couldn't just add these bands in there to future proof the phone. I know a few phones had 1x on 800 way before Sprint started nvWhy not? Just curious as I'm not as educated on this as you are but i had hoped for 800 mhz support, too. If people usually have a phone for the standard 2 years...why wouldn't sprint and samsung think to include 800 support as they plan to offer 800 mhz lte service well inside of this time window? Thanks in advance for your input.
-
looks like good rf performance but it's still ridiculous they didn't include 800 LTE

We need digiblur to help us out lol

thanks for the clarificationIt is not true of the first generation AlcaLu RRU's. They can only do CDMA or LTE on each RRU. They are supposed to be coming out with a combined one soon that can do both. Ericsson also is working on a combined one too.
Also, I'm not even 100% sure the Samsung 800 RRU can do LTE and CDMA. We only know the 1900 one can and it's an assumption that the 800 also can just like the 1900 one. That assumption could be false.

i thought this was true in Alcatel-Lucent and Samsung markets, but in Ericsson ones a new RRU needed to be installed. I may be wrong thoughFrom my understanding is that in the initial install for CDMA/LTE 1900 for any NV installation, the new NV antenna panels on top of the tower already contain 800 MHz support. I believe all that needs to be done to add LTE 800 is a single carrier card at the base station and some internal testing and it should be good to go. If it had required a new panel then it would take a lot longer to do for each tower since they would have to re-climb the tower to do so.
-
yes three towers.....suburban 1900 spacing and those are the only sites I'd be able to connect to3 towers?!?!?! huge area to have a coverage/device test
-
that's why I said area. I understand no market is complete, but this area I frequently visit has all of the Sprint sites in that area upgraded ( around three sites and I'm in the middle). No market has been fully completed
-
I can comment in this because I've been in an area where all the Sprint towers around me were upgraded. I see what it would be like once it's complete.Your experience is with a partially built, under construction network. I bet if you were living in a house that was under construction that you wouldn't have a great experience either. Sorry you are cold, the windows are not in yet and the electric company can't install the hook up so no furnace either.
It's really freaking annoying how users are comparing a partial network build out to Verizon fully built/launched networks. Once Sprint has all the sites upgraded, you'll have LTE just about everywhere you have EVDO. Fringe coverage will be intermittent due to the airlink, but Verizon has that issue in fringe areas too.

A "mistake" or a "hit to the brand"? Why? VZW has been selling single band LTE 750 handsets for a good two years. No current VZW handsets will be able to take advantage of LTE 2100+1700 when VZW launches its AWS overlay later this year. But subs are certainly not complaining loudly nor leaving VZW en masse.
AJ
ok you already know 750>1900 coverage wise. sprint users will be stuck with 1900 only coverage which in my opinion will be lacking and insufficient in alot of places. this is a flagship phone and people will be using this for two years with no access to better coverage wich smr LTE would offer. there would be plenty of people wanting to leave sprint if a sprint user cant access lte on 1900 in a building while vzw users will asssuming its on the same tower on a non rf freidnly buulding. simple as that. i just fell like they should be putting it in phones by now
-
Ya that would be very helpful. I just need an idea where to start to get in contact with people. It's been a few years since I've worked in the industry, so I don't haves many contacts, especially on the network side.
Edit: I would really love to use this as an excuse to visit a cell site to talk to some engineers

I'm writing a research paper for school on the effects or lack or effects of mobile phone radiation on humans. I would like to interview professionals in the industry to get some additional insight. Anyone know the best way of getting in contact with someone who may be interested in speaking? Thanks in advanced!
hey ive recently written a report like that. i can point you to some of my sources but i dont have any interviews for u
-
if there is no esmr LTE they are making a huge mistake. people will be locked into a 2 year contract only able to access 1900 LTE which isnt all that great from my experience. i feel like its gonna be a hit to the sprint brand with only having access to 1900 LTE with a flagship phone like that

I guess that goes along with what iansltx said. Sprint to Sprint fine but texting other carriers which I do a lot results in delaysMy wife and I text back and forth in the same room often. We live next to a Sprint site. It's virtually live chat in most instances. Usually takes 1-2 seconds to appear on the other device.

Its pretty fast here, especially Sprint to Sprint. Seems fine down in DC as well. After I jailbroke, however I've been receiving several messages at once, and most of them I've already received. I'm pretty sure its just a tweak I've installed though.
are you able to check what time the message was sent and u received it?
-
it's just frustrating that they come on time whenever I use a vzw prl and are late with sprints.

sorry for resurrecting this thread but this problem has been happening for years, and even NV isn't solving it. this pic shows what happened when I was connected to a NV tower. It happened multiple times on different towers.
