  1. So i know this is an old thread but I was researching something, and ran across it.  So just wondering, once LTE is completely live or up and running on a tower, I should not revert back to EVDO Rev A. at all correct?  Right now Ive been forced back to EVDO Rev A. from eHRPD which has happened before, but not sure 100% as to why.  Perhaps this is a sign that the "sprint gods" may be shinning down on my tower and transitioning to LTE finally.  lol.  I have tried resetting my network connection several times and I just end up on EV-DO Rev A. every time.  I was out and about today and my phone worked fine mostly was on LTE all day and some eHRPD.

So I guess my question is why do the towers still broadcast EV-DO once they have been upgraded to LTE?  Is it for those of us who do not have LTE capable phones?  or roaming partners who do not carry LTE service?  or other reasons?  I mean it seems just about as fast as the eHRPD signal I had this morning.   I am just curious thats all.  Thanks guys.

The easy answer is yes :) Seriously though, as I understand it you will drop to EVDO if LTE is oversaturated. LTE is also a more fragile air link vs EVDO so there is another reason to keep it around. We still also have 1xrtt which is slower than EVDO but has a stronger air link.

  2. I've been having some issues getting 3g data since the update. I can't get any at all when in a weak area and sometimes none at all in a strong area. I've never had this issue in the same spots before the update. LTE is working fine. Anyone else experience this or have a solution? Also I haven't been able to get wifi calling to work. I keep getting an Authentication error, I chatted with sprint and she did something and told me to leave phone off for 30 min and that it will work... Well that didn't work.

I just looked at my battery usage today because I was down to 59% and I've hardly used it today. 34% usage is from the wifi calling app which wifi calling isn't even working but it is on. Anyone else have battery drain from this app?

No problems here with wifi calling being a power hog but I also do not have it enabled. I would also call back Sprint and ask them to provision your phone. It sounds like that's what they did before but I would call back to make sure.

  3. I never want anyone's MiFi. Give it to me as USB, mPCI, mPCI-E, Ethernet, etc. That way I can more easily get it into my device of choosing instead of relying on their crappy routers and WiFi to do it. I'd purchase dozens of them if they had them available. I could probably move hundreds of them. They'd facilitate great OOB access to routers and other devices.

I prefer the Mifi because I can connect multiple devices at the same time. Not sure if this would  resolve your criticism but you can connect some Mifi's via usb.

  4. Well I haven't used an voip recently so not sure how much of a nightmare it could be but with wifi calling, once you turn it on all you have to do is verify the address of your location, sometimes manually, but most of the time your location will be automatically detected and all you have to do is press ok and thats it.  In either case it takes at the most maybe a few seconds.

Oh, I dont mean on the end user side but rather on the 911 center side. If they are not set up correctly (ie E911) then they will not be able to locate a voip caller. I have also seen issues with actual E911 centers but that probably had more to do with end user not supplying location information to the service provider.

  5. I will probably ONLY use Wi-Fi calling on my home network since that is the one I trust most. I'm not getting what you mean by trusted Wi-Fi network.

    Sent from my LG G3

I have several password protected wifi networks that I use frequently.

  6. Oh ok, based on your post it sounded like you had specific issues with the 911 requirements.  But try it though, the voice quality is pretty amazing, better than when you are on 1x but not quite as good as hd voice.

I dont take any more issue with the 911 issues on Sprint Wifi than I do with any other VOIP service. Trust me, if your 911 system is not set up for VOIP traffic it can be a nightmare. I will give it a whirl next time I'm on a trusted wifi network.

  7. What do you mean?

    Yes, this^^^

If you read the faq on Sprint's website, you'll see that when dialing 911, it will always try a cellular signal first. If no cellular signal is available, it will then pull the address from the Wi-Fi calling setup for 911 location purposes.

Since my cell signal at home is solid why play around. I rather let my phone stay hooked to the tower. Just my preference.

  8. The current lte hot spot plans are $35/50/80. Usb stick lte hotspots and 3g hot spots have 50/80 plans.

If you can get them to apply new plans to old hot spots then you are better than me. Besides, he would have to sign up for a new plan. Not sure if they will let you go month to month.

  9. At the outrageous price of 1GB for $10!

It might be your cheapest option. I have an old 3g MIFI that I tried to activate and Sprint would not give me a plan cheaper than $50 a month. If you go with freedom pop you have to buy the device unsubsidized.
