  1. Holy crap, that's him. that's one of the guys I talked to outside. But I thought he said Sprint. He's the President of HTC oh man. lol I need to go back and edit that review.

also I know that it was brought up elsewhere that in the making of the EVO 4G LTE video that it showed what looked like a 3D version of the device and that it was quickly announced that wasn't the case. that no 3D EVO LTE is in the works. But permit me if I may, why then at an unveiling does the other video with the pin drop show at time index mark 5:50 the pin transforming into a dual rear lens version of the device much like the older 3D EVO.

Me thinks that regardless what HTC is saying, there will be a 3D version of the device a few months down the line.

    TS

If we are talking about the same video it appeared to me like they showed the progression of the EVO line. Evo 4g, Evo 3d and now the Evo 4g LTE.

  2. yeah I understand that though I think in terms of giving both networks under the same conditions and load when comparing them...unloaded speeds mean little less they are compared to other networks unloaded speeds, which in this case VZ would win that battle(hence my initial thought for reason for not having mobile LTE station for event)...

I would be interested to see roughly how much more load VZ would have to be under to bring the speeds of their 10x10 deployment down to be even with Sprints 5x5 deployment...

Absolutely right. But I was alluding more to what AJ stated.
  3. Oh there would deff be negative press...and it'd take away from the device...ppl would run speed test on it and then write about how it was slower than VZ...if not allowed to run speed test then there would be no point to even have LTE live there...

You sure it would be slower than Verizon currently?
  4. Better to avoid the negative press before the launch though...deal with it after when it'll be an afterthought because the number of places lit up will overwhelm it...big red is still putting little LTE pins on a map while sprint is about to cover the whole network. Haha

Thats just the thing though. There would be no negative press. You use the phone, put it down and leave. The conspiracy theorist in me wonders if the LTE radio is still undergoing fcc clearance or if there is another version of the radio undergoing fcc clearance.
  5. No need to pump the building with spots for LTE for the little event imho...they know they won't touch Verizon speed wise bc they are using smaller block...its likely smarter to just push the phone itself as the focus and not the network right now...

That may be true. I still find it interesting since we all know they will play up the LTE at launch.
  6. Sprint has let us know that wherever they are messing with NV, there are going to be dropped/blocked calls. They have updated out Network Event Board tool to show a "ticket" on any tower with NV work being done so that we can tell the customer the expected time it should be over and service normalized. Total time per tower seems to be 3 to 5 days.

That is interesting. We had a five day period about two weeks ago when everybody I knew in the area with sprint, including me were dropping calls like crazy.
  7. Being "locked out" and turned off are totally different things....did I miss where Robert really said locked out?....

It's likely just off so its not searching for LTE signal killing your battery because it never finds one since there will be so few out at launch...this is smart of sprint to be proactive as I'm sure many would just leave it on and wonder why their phone lasted 2hrs only....

If I recall he said he could not turn it on. Also there is supposed to be a live LTE tower nearby. Even if there was not a LTE site close enough I'm sure they could have set up a mobile one. I personally think it would have been wise to light up the LTE for the event.
  8.

Now, as I am known to remind my students, the absence of certain information does not imply the negation of that information. In other words, that nothing has been stated about LTE 800 nor TD-LTE 2600 in the EVO 4G LTE does not tell us that it lacks those capabilities. At this point, we just have an incomplete picture. Maybe it comes through the FCC OET next week with authorization for LTE 800 or TD-LTE 2600 or both. Such is possible, albeit doubtful, because neither the LG Viper nor the Samsung Galaxy Nexus applications have sought beyond 5 MHz x 5 MHz LTE 1900.

    AJ

However, your statement combined with Roberts report of being locked out of LTE makes me wonder if the LTE radio has not cleared the fcc yet or may be the specific radio that they had for the event has not passed yet.
  9. You may already know this, but you can verify whether or not you're connected to an Airave by calling *99

If you are connected, you'll hear a looping voice message that says 'You are now within Airave coverage'

If you're not, it will say 'The feature code is not available', or something along those lines.

Give that a try next time you hear the beeps.

    Learned something new. Thanks!

  10. Is that all they can reach? That isn't worth much to me, especially when I count interference with metal wall framing and window tint blocking signals already. :(

Yup. In my experience they only reach about two hundred feet. I'm sure the y can hit 500 unobstructed, which is still pretty good when you compare it to wifi signals.
  11. And chance it is something on your phone?

Don't think so. It does not happen all of the time. It happened twice today and both times I looked at the screen to see if anything was amiss and everything looked fine. No messages no roaming just a strong sprint signal.
  12. So the nextel merger was a huge financial drain to Sprint as we all know. So let's at least use the infrastructure that we overpaid for in the beginning to thicken coverage and provide a better service to our existing and potential future customers, right? No, we'll just shut it all down. Makes sense.

Sorry for the negative post, but this decision really does bother me, especially when I read that Mr. Hesse got a 31% pay increase.

    Ok, back to being positive.

The way its been explained to me is that when you have towers too close to one another it causes major issues. DO might be able to mitigate the issue but I don't know enough to make that determination. I would question why they are not keeping iden towers that are not too close to a Sprint tower.
  13. I was asking a legitimate question, not flaming Sprint. You want to see some sprint flaming, jump over to the XDA forums. I think I have the right to express my frustration when I'm not getting the service I am paying for. Premium data fee or not, I should not be connecting to 1X for data when I'm in an area I KNOW has good 3G coverage. I didn't know if there was a technical explanation for this, I figured this would be the best place to ask.

Thanks for the support. I don't think it's tower maintenance though, as it happens when I'm driving around and switching from tower to tower. I doubt every single tower in the Raleigh/Durham area is under maintenance at the same time lol. Like today, I was driving home from work from Cary to Fuquay Varina, and the entire time I was streaming iheartradio it was on 1X. Started out on 3G (albeit extremely slow 3G) and then next time I look at the phone it's on 1X. It's happened to me since maybe...6 months after I signed up with Sprint? Or maybe I just didn't notice it much when I first had my phone, or due to the fact that stock roms will not tell you if you are on 1X, it always shows 3G and I didn't root my phone till a few months after I got it. And it's not the phone cause had an Evo 4G and now a 3D and it happened on both.

Actually Fuquay tends to be a bit spotty on 3g but Cary has pretty good coverage. Do you have any issues elsewhere in Wake Copunty? When was the last time you updated your prl?
  14. This is incorrect. Sprint did not upgrade from GSM to CDMA.

Are you thinking of the lone Sprint Spectrum GSM 1900 market in Washington, DC-Baltimore? That was a partnership among The Washington Post Company, several of the usual cable companies, and Sprint. It launched the first PCS 1900 MHz commercial network in December 1995.

    AJ

Actually Sprint bought Centel in 1993 and sold it off in 95 I think. Centel went on to become Alltel(presumably CDMA). They then started a GSM network in the DC/Baltimore area in 1995. Later they switched to CDMA(1999?) and sold the GSM assets to Ominipoint which became Voicestream and then T-Mobile.
