T-Mobile is bragging that testing from umlaut and OpenSignal show that they're the fastest 5G network in the U.S. with highest availability. Of note, T-Mobiles “Ultra Capacity 5G" was available in 79% of all of the samples taken in their NYC test, though they didn't cover much of the city.

If they would ease their video throttle they could have won the video categories as well. Their video throttle is the most aggressive of all three carriers and it shows.

Correct, R15 SIM is no longer required. SA 5G is working fine now on my T-Mobile S20+ with a TM9263 SIM card. I did have trouble with SA when it first rolled out up until about 6 weeks ago, but since then its been working flawlessly. My phone actually prefers SA 5G over LTE and at least 50% of the time that's what its on.

Although an r15 may not be required, I bet TNX is stil going to be the only way a sprint customer can get SA 5g.

The fine print actually gave Sprint the ability to throttle those legacy plans. People kept saying there was also no deprioritization, but the wording was there to implement one at any given moment.

Ever since Sprint got rid of 2 year upgrade options, that plan has not been worth it. Anyone still holding on to that plan is just throwing money away. T-Mobile will likely not honor something that was never promised. They've done this in the past when they changed the unlimited roaming in Mexico and Canada to 5 GB.

If you still have that plan, I recommend dumping it.

Show me an alternative that I can get unthrottled speeds or even 1080 streaming on 6 lines for the same or lower price.

I would say given the Everything Data plan wording and the premium price paid for Everything Data, you should have unthrottled.  If true, for me personally, this makes the purchase of any 5G phone from T-Mobile undesirable given that TNX is required to get 5G at all.  Where I live inside the Columbus Ohio beltway, the speed ranking is Sprint, then AT&T, then T-Mobile, then Verizon.  T-Mobile has improved, but not enough to change their ranking.  T-Mobile would likely win if they converted one of the two Sprint only sites near me to T-Mobile (no permits seen).

The throttling should be validated against the physical network.  What happens if only band b25 is allowed so it is only on Sprint even with the TNX network?

I agree. What differentiates the Everything Data plan from kickstart except hotspot and unthrottled data?

As for 5g I can get NSA 5g on a sprint sim (tna) but cannot get SA 5g unless I TNX and get throttled to 2.3 on video... Crazy.

Your wrong about Williston. Tmobile just gave Williston n41, b41, b71 n71 and b66. Previously it was 5mhz of b12 and 10mhz of b2. Believe me when I found it a few days ago I was shocked. And yes they are now faster than Verizon in Williston. I have all 3. ATT also upgraded to 5G almost around the same time.

They routed the radios thru the 600mhz antenna and when the do that b2 and b66 gets a 20-30% coverage increase from what it was with the older equipment. Then standalone n71 goes further even more than b71.

Hey, Terrell, are you on a sprint plan or a T-Mobile plan?

  6. Does anyone with the iPhone 12/12 pro notice the phone gets pretty warm/hot when on 5g running speedtests or even FaceTime calls on WiFi? Mine seems to get warm fairly quick and chews through battery. I sorta expect the heat when on 5g running tests but FaceTime on WiFi I wouldn’t think should make the phone get hot.

I have a couple of sites here that appear to have some slightly older equipment that are broadcasting B71 but not N71. Maybe something like that is happening there.

Is seems like some sites nearby have n71 some don’t. It is in a rural area so it’s possible it’s backhaul related. Back in April when all the 600 spectrum was made available they changed from a 2x5 carrier to a 2x10 and performance was so much better at edge of signal.

They have 2x15 in the area and only have 2x5 on LTE now and there’s more traffic than before so speeds are almost unusable. They also only choose to have 2x5 on 1900 as well which I know they have more.

We all have 5g devices but I would rather it all or at least 2x10 be on LTE right now. The experience for the majority would be so much better...

I see where 5G SA comes into play, I'm in the woods had two bars of LTE, taken I was switched to SA and 5 solid bars of 5G. Love it.

What was the speed difference? Just because you had 5 bars didn’t mean it will be a better experience. Isn’t it likely you were connected to multiple aggregated LTE bands including B71 that would likely have identical type coverage as SA 5g?
