  1. There has been lots of chatter about this but The Verge is reporting at about 5:05pm on 6/4/2014 that Sprint is close to announcing a deal to purchase T-Mobile.

    http://mobile.theverge.com/2014/6/4/5780704/sprint-is-reportedly-close-to-an-agreement-to-buy-t-mobile

I am interested in hearing people's thoughts on what the short-term and long-term benefits could be for Sprint customers if this is true.

Short term, it would be wonderful if there could be full GSM roaming in-plan for Sprint customers including the current T-Mobile international benefit (I know but the data is extremely slow.)

  2. "Average people" are not watching Internet forums with baited breath waiting for a mobile phone update to hit and being concerned about whether or not it comes 1 hr, 1 day or 1 week after an Internet post that they didn't read in the first place. "Average people" will get a notice on their phone at some point and say "Hmm, wonder what this is." The people on XDA or even this forum, including myself, are the fringe of the fringe in the global mobile phone market.

  3. I don't believe that this has anything to do with sales. The number of people that know/care/seek out Spark when buying a phone has to be so low as to be insignificant.

I think there was a malicious purpose to the wait...

the S5 and the M8 are both LTE advanced phones and so is the nexus... why release spark on an LTE advance phone when they can maximize sales on 2 LTE advance and upgrade an older one later.

there isnt any lte advance service out yet... but it does offer much better speed allowance over cat 3 lte

of course im just referencing this...

  4. Just curious what is happening technically to give me this recurring experience downtown. We've spent 3 or 4 weekends at various events all day at the Iowa Events Center. In general the LTE connection on my Nexus 5 gets bogged down and approaches unusable. If I switch the phone settings to 3G I usually end up with a usable experience. Is this just simply the difference in load of the 4G equipment vs the 3G?

  5. Is anyone noticing a daylight savings time problem on the Nexus 5? Today, I noticed that all of my calendar appointments next week are off by one hour. My date and time settings are set to receive both the time and the time zone from the network. The time on my phone is correct currently so I must presume that it has picked an accurate time zone.

If I uncheck to receive the timezone from the network then GMT -6 is what shows as the current time zone and all of my appointments after Sunday are incorrect by an hour. However, if I go into the timezone selection and I manually reselect GMT -6 then all of my appointments are correct. When all of my appointments are correct if I then go back and recheck to receive the timezone from the network then everything after Sunday shifts by an hour incorrectly again. So far I have only tried this on my LTE tower.

  6. I am just a couple days into the management of my battery by Battery Guru after learning mode so I haven't really seen anything yet to tell me how I feel about it but I do have a question.

I have not had any issue with the app automatically managing my wifi. I have noticed that wifi is turned off at work where we do have wifi but I do not have access to it with my device and then when I get home wifi will be turned on. What I am noticing though is that the app is not turning wifi on for the purposes of location-based services when I am using an app.

I have always been under the impression that location based services is more accurate and does not necessarily require a complete GPS fix if it can see the wifi access points in the vicinity. So, I am wondering why Battery Guru is not turning on the wifi in those circumstances when I'm doing something that is making a location-based services call. Of course I could be all wet too and location-based services doesn't work this way. I'm just curious.

  7. I leave Sunday for a week in Disney and will check what I can with my EVO LTE so it wont be as good as a Triband device. Just hoping to have coverage at the parks and surrounding area. :)

Was at Disney World over Christmas and New Years. There is solid LTE through all Disney World parks. Data is unusable at Universal Studios.

  8. Does anyone know of any extended battery cases coming on the market?

While not a case in the pure sense I've been using the PowerSkin Pop'n this week at the Orlando theme parks and been pretty pleased with it as a solution.

  9. I was sooo happy today. Despite the large amount of crowds at Jordan Creek today, my data was working almost flawlessly! That NEVER happens! It is an 800 tower, but hopefully the days of wondering if your data will work there will soon be over :)

Really? Was that Saturday? I was out there around 2pm and data for me was the typical - approaching unusable. Interesting to compare notes out there.
