  1. Does anyone know of a true bumper case for this phone where there's absolutely nothing on the back, not even a clear panel, there is simply a bumper around the phone edges? Lots of these for the iPhone but I am not finding one for the Nexus 5.

  2. Not sure if it is true or not but in a pretty good exchange with Sprint's Twitter account, Sprint says that Google shipped the phones quicker than they were prepared for. The Google shipments were supposed to start arriving to customers on the 8th coinciding with Sprint's release and by that time the store would have proper inventory and knowledge of the SIM card procedure. I have no way to know if that is true but it seems entirely plausible given what has happened this week. The date certainly matches the leaked internal memo posted here about activating the unlocked phones from Google Play.

  3. I just read that the 32gb N5 will not be allowed on TEP at Sprint. What are people doing for insurance? None?

Worth Ave Group insurance on my current phone but I'll drop it once I switch to the Nexus 5. Not going to carry insurance on a $350 phone.

  4. This is just silly. The agreement is that the nexus 5 is supported by sprint - the agreement is NOT only phones sold by sprint after november 8th are supported, or only a specific model (16GB). Regardless of if sprint SELLS the phone or not, it clearly states on the google play store that sprint IS a supported carrier.

Bottom line, sprint screwed up. They loaded all Black/White 16GB MEIDs and white 32GB MEIDs - they DID NOT load BLACK 32GB MEIDs.

Regardless, it's resolved - and that's all that matters. Comments that say to wait don't solve problems.

Now, hopefully people who are receiving their black 32GB nexus 5 will have no issues on sprint and that's what it is all about - helping the community resolve problems... not just say "well... let's do nothing and pretend like nothing is wrong".

How do we know that Google didn't jump the gun and start releasing phones a day or two too soon when they were really not intended to be in customers hands until the 8th to coincide with sprints release of the device. From everything I'm reading today, the issues are resolved and it is not the 8th yet but we have no knowledge of whether the 8th was the agreement date between sprint and Google for support of these devices.

  5. Rep from Tech Support is going to call me about the Network/Device Question. Someone has to know. According to the guy I just chatted with, the only phones that will work on the Sprint network are "phones that have the Sprint Logo on them."

That one deserves to have the screen shot posted to the @sprintcare Twitter account with a kind request to provide the person with additional training.

  6. It seems clear to me that Sprint its not ready to support this phone until November 8 which is there official release date. That seems to coincide with what date Google Play customers would receive theirs by shipping as well though it seems like some customers will get theirs a day or two sooner than that. My guess is starting on Monday there's going to be some crash training going on at Sprint in preparation for the 8th. Everybody on the internet, clamoring to try to get information before the 8th is just too early for Sprint to be able to react and support. I can't criticize sprint for that. Now, starting on the 8th if they don't have answers or adequate sim inventory, then I think that is a whole different issue.

  7. Did you watch the video? The X-Way and Fix Way are universal to any smartphone/gps. Its just a dash mount or vent mount. They are really nice and don't ubstruct the view of the screen at all. They hold really well as well.

My apologies, no I didn't because I was on a pretty sparse sprint connection at the time so I just went to the manufacturer's website and I wasn't clear what the product did from looking at their website. It looked to me like the mounts had to be mated with a particular case. I do see now after being home and watching the video how that works. Looks like a really interesting solution.

  8. I agree in part. It should not be that difficult, but it almost always is difficult -- especially when dealing with tens of thousands of front line employees, almost none of whom have any wireless engineering expertise.

I get what you are saying and I admittedly have never worked in that environment so I have no idea how it works. I just made the presumption that there has got to be some kind of a breakthrough capability technically on their computer screens that alerts them to a specific script whenever the customer utters the term Nexus 5. I have worked on the design side of some call centers and I know that they typically have digital signage monitors throughout the call clusters that they use to flash important information to their operators. I could be totally wrong and none of that exists in the Sprint environment. I really have no way to know that.

  9. I want to caution people against bugging customer care too much or going apeshit over the SIM concern. Let it all play out. The Nexus 5 may be shipped with a SIM that you can use. Regardless, you will be able to activate the handset on Sprint, but you may need to exercise some patience.

This is the first cash and carry, unlocked Sprint handset in many years. Do not raise a ruckus and make Sprint question the decision to run with Google on this one. Like VZW, Sprint can just as easily decide to sit this one out next time. Then, we are back to the safe, easy to manage "walled garden" of devices.

While I can appreciate what you are saying at the same time, it can't be that hard for an executive at Sprint to say "this is the first time we've done it this way" and ensure that a company wide notice goes out explaining exactly how it will work and what to tell customers.

  10. Called per guideline above and the person tried to help my however after checking they told me they don't have the Nexus 5 in the system yet and do not know what SIM it would need. They did however make a note to call me Monday and they think they will have the information by then. One question, I realized I have a Sprint micro SIM from a Samsung S4 that was exchanged (they told me to keep the SIM for some reason). Can I just use that one? Thanks.

My rep on the international 800# told me the same thing. I simply said that I participate in a forum where people already have the phone and the CZ2102LWR is confirmed to work. He said "well, I can sure order you one of those." It was free. Be here 11/7.

  11. Someone needs to help Sprint with their Math, this is what the upgrade screen says:

That's some jacked some up math. $550 discounts and somehow I still pay them $150. LOL

The $250 is illustrating the total discount received. It is the $150 + the $100. The rebate is extra.

  12. I'm really confused by all the information I am reading here. I ordered the Nexus 5 through the Google Play Store. I've read multiple posts where people say that you can activate the phone online once you receive it. I've also read other posts saying that the phone does not come with a SIM card that you have to go to a Sprint corporate store in order to get one. Can someone explain this? Is it true that the phone will be non-functional when I receive it until I get it to a sprint corporate store to get a SIM card?

  13. I've never had an unlocked Android phone so this is all new to me. I have two quick questions. I currently have a cheap unlocked international phone with a world sim card from onesimcard.com. So with the Nexus 5, can I just take out the SIM card and put this in when I travel internationally and have my international service on this phone?

Second, I travel domestically to a few places that does not have good Sprint service. Can I buy a tmobile prepaid sim and pop that in for the days that I am in those areas? Their $2 per day unlimited voice, text, data service would be awesome in this situation.
