  1. There's some work going on at the tower on the north side of UCF. They recently built a new shelter in the back and are now starting to install some new base equipment in it. The tower has had NV antennas and RRU's for about 6 months now but as of today it is still running legacy. Anyone think they could be installing the new base station equipment? I really hope so, I noticed them laying fiber around the site last week as well.

And notice how the gate is wide open, I was tempted to sneak in lol   :secret:

  2. So there's a tower on campus that has equipment on it that kind of look like NV antennas, but I'm not entirely sure. I know there's a clearwire site on the top of it, but the ones below it look like they could be NV. Any thoughts?

  3. Now that I am back in my corner of the Arctic (5-8 inches of snow today where I live plus blizzard-like winds -- Oh, how I loved getting on that plane yesterday!), a FWIW from my 8-day sojourn in the land of Mickey and the Minions:

After good-to-excellent Sprint coverage in the Disney areas and the OC Convention Center during the week, 8 of us went to Universal on Saturday.  4 GS3's and 4 Satan phones (OK, they were iPhone 5c's --sorry if my prejudices sometimes overwhelm me), all fully charged at the beginning of the day.  Sprint coverage virtually everywhere at/near Universal ranged from lousy to non-existent.  Moreover, the GS3's spent their time vainly switching back and forth between mediocre 3G data and even worse 4G LTE as they hunted for coverage, with the result that all 4 GS3 batteries basically died well before the end of the day.  The iPhones had slightly better connectivity and much better battery survival.

I live in an area with good Sprint coverage, and I travel all over the western US, and I have never seen the battery problem that the GS3's had at universal on Saturday.  I wonder if Universal has some sort of arrangement with Big Red or The Dark Side (that would be Verizon and AT&T to the less spiteful) which prevents Sprint from placing cells in proximity to the Universal property.

I have not read through all 125 preceding pages of this thread, so if I am repeating what 78 other people have already observed, I apologize.  But the situation certainly seemed unusual to me.

I was at Universal on Sunday and I felt your pain. Even with band 41 enabled on my Nexus 5 I still was unable to stay on a stable data connection. I was bouncing from b41 to b25 to 3g to roaming and back again. Thank god for wifi in the parks.

Both the towers that are nearest to Universal have not been 4G accepted yet. This is an area that definitely needs some attention considering the troves of people who come through there. I have noticed that one of those towers are on a power line and that there is a trend in this area of sites on power lines are mostly still legacy. Looks like Duke Energy doesn't work very well with equipment deployed on their infrastructure, which is kind of a bummer to see these sites sitting legacy at this point in the NV deployment.

Can't say it enough, but C'MON ERICCSON LETS GET 800 IN O-TOWN ALREADY! :)

  4. Anyone with a Spark phone care to share their handoff experience between band 41 and band 25 say when streaming. Seamless or not?

Half the time I don't notice. I have noticed at times the LTE symbol will disappear for about 10 seconds during a handoff, whether it be from 25 to 41 or 41 to 25. I may have a disrupted internet connection for a few seconds but I haven't had a song change or tried browsing when this happens because I am usually driving.

And I'm on a Nexus 5 WITHOUT a Spark update, so I'm sure whenever we do get the update it will only improve.

  5. I've been noticing the past few months that speeds on Sprint's primary LTE band (25, or PCS1900) have been steadily decreasing in many markets. This is likely due to capacity issues on the G block 5x5 carrier of PCS spectrum uses for LTE. I realize that many markets are not complete with NV deployment which could be part of the reason for poor results, but even with a full 5x5 deployment nationwide I feel that with increasing data usage by subs will eat up capacity faster than we may fully realize.

Does Sprint have the ability to add another LTE carrier nationwide that is compatible with single band devices? I know they will most likely do this in Chicago where they purchased US Cellular spectrum, but I'm not aware what will happen outside that area. Since it will be at least another year or so until most subs are on triband devices, is Sprint planning/able to add a second carrier or any kind of additional capacity to PCS LTE to relieve capacity issues?

  6. i'm not sure what is going on right now, but it is annoying at times.  there is a sprint store off of university by world of beer, and sometimes i figure they have a few mini towers or something in there that i'm picking up on because i'll get 5 bars

Nope, there's a tower directly behind that shopping center. If you park in the back you will see it

  7.

i live off rouse and university.  i really hope they get these towers up and running over here

Usually I get pretty decent speeds out that way. There's a tower on the NE side of Rouse and University that I get pretty decent LTE performance from, I wonder if it was running into issues.

  8. I'm confused on the order with which they are doing this rollout. Are they going to deploy 2.5Ghz then 800Mhz? Are they going to be rolling out both 2.5Ghz/800Mhz, hence Sprint Spark at the same time? Since we've already had a speed test with 2.5Ghz, does that mean 2.5Ghz is currently being rolled out around town first?

Also, in other markets, how long from when they started rolling out their 800Mhz band did they launch Sprint Spark in those markets?

As of now, LTE2500 is a separate rollout that was going to happen regardless of a clearwire/sprint merger. Clear had plans to convert all existing wimax sites to LTE and where actively doing this when the merger went though. The plans have since continued as scheduled, which is why we are seeing B41 active in Orlando today. LTE800, as well as 1x800, should arrive in Orlando relatively soon as it is now actively being deployed throughout the country.

The second half of Network Vision will involve adding 2.5 to all sites that do not have clearwire antennas co-located, and moving existing 2.5 equipment to NV racks at sites that are co-located. I believe this is estimated to be completed by the end of 2015.

It's very exciting indeed, as I've been enjoying B41 for the last week or so on my Nexus 5. The only thing that is lacking in this market is the building penetration benefits of 800mhz. When that is complete I'm confident that the performance I experience will be on par, if not better, than Verizon and AT&T.

  9.

I live in hermitage pa. My mothers gs3 and father's iphone5 both get excellent LTE yet my nexus 5 stays in 3g. I know this a known problem but my area seems very confused. They say they have LTE on 800 and 1900 here, yet I get neithe. My local sprint store told me there was going to be a update for the phone q1 2014, but sprint service reps tell me I'll have to wait a month for them to finish lte in the area. Anyone have any ideas? I did get a text msg from sprint saying my area would be done at the end of the month, but did they mean that for the LTE that is currently here or did they mean the updated for triband phones?

It could be an eCSFB problem. I'm not entirely sure what markets this is still present in, as I haven't come upon any issues in Chicago and Orlando.

Also check that you have LTE enabled as well. A profile & PRL update couldn't hurt either. And everyone got that text message apparently (even though I never saw it). And for further reference, most Sprint reps at stores or in customer service are useless when it comes to specific network deployment information. You'll find a wealth of knowledge here on S4GRU, and if you want area and site specific information I would reccomend becoming a sponsor. Welcome!

  10. Bad news is there will be no LTE 800 in Orlando until after the end of the 2nd quarter, good news is almost all of the legacy 2.5 (over 95% of it) has been Spark enabled,

Regarding LTE800, check your sources, mine say otherwise for Orlando deployment and consider the line below my picture.. I'll just leave it at that.

And I can attest to a good number of 2.5 sites being upgraded for LTE but I don't think it's quite 95 percent yet as I have found from my own experiences that 1 in every 3 Clearwire site I've encountered in Orlando was not LTE accepted.

  11. Are there any towers on the property of universal?  Even when the park is empty(I was there all day on Thursday), there is absolutely no coverage despite my phone saying it has service(and 3G at that)

Nope, the closest tower to universal is about a half mile away from property, and I don't believe it has NV upgrades. I can attest to not so great service there.. Hopefully soon the site will be upgraded, preferably to a high capacity one.

  12. Interesting. Have an idea of which tower is doing that broadcasting? Because I have officially pretty much lost 3g and am stuck on 1x on this side and think it may have something to do with you picking up b41. Also, ever notice those antennas at the top of the raddison only point in 3 directions....East west and north. No south there? (aka my area)

There's a Clear site on top of the Radison which is co-located with a Sprint legacy site. It looks like the antennas that are the highest with RRU's are for Clear, and the smaller skinnier ones on the base of the roof are the Sprint legacy. It was either that one or another stand alone Clear tower at Colonial and 408 that I was connecting to. There's no way (that I know of) to narrow down what site is your phone is receiving LTE from. But those two sites would be my guesses for the B41 connection.

  13. Did the PRL trick and caught B41 here in Orlando. Had an outstanding connection for the last 3 hours until I got back to my apartment where it dropped off (completely concrete structure). I'm very impressed with the speeds I'm getting and signal strength. Even stayed connected with a -105ish rsrp connection deep inside the UCF library. (there are 3 clear sites on campus, I would expect at least that)

Much improved from my B25 experience around here, which is, sorry to say, pretty abysmal.
