  1. I hate the GPA requirement.  Yes a lot of it is because mine always sucked, but GPA is a terrible measurement of abilities.

I agree.. Most people don't have a resume like mine, or know what I've done to get where I am. Sure I've got some blotches on my transcript, but those where because of external factors that where more important to focus my energy on at the time. Compare that to a kid who's never left campus all 4 years and had everything paid for by mommy and daddy. That's definitely not me.

  2. What is your academic major, GPA, experience?

Major is Economics, minor in statistics. GPA is 3.2 and I've worked at an HR consulting firm part time for the last year. As for experience with network related stuff, basically just being an active member on here for the last 6 months and doing my own reading on LTE technology.

  3. i laughed to myself when i saw it.  around challenger/alafaya intersection headed toward UCF, my phone was connected to a tower located across the street from central florida blvd, and dropped that for one near curry ford/417.  no idea what is going on.

I think they still need about 5 more towers near UCF to even consider being in the finishing up stage

Never got the text, probably because my phone has a Chicago number and that's where my dad lives who has the account. Buuuut yeah the 2 towers on campus are not complete. And I'm aware of 1 other on colonial and alafaya that hasn't been upgraded. Still not holding my breath..

  4. That's what I am getting over here. I have a feeling that when I am connected to LTE its the tower over on UCF campus. It slows down ALLLLOTTTTTT during these hours when so many people are on campus. Wonder what they could do to improve that speed, other than get the other 2-3 towers in the area complete.

Bring in more T1 backhaul. They have been known to have done this at legacy sites, even during NV deployment. Of course if it is constrained spectrum causing the capacity issues, then that's a whole different ball game...

  5. Had some decent 3g speed tests this morning around 9:30 am. Had about 1.4 down and .5 up. And now its bogged down to .18 down and .1 up. It's like you can tell when the college students are waking up for class LOL!

Going to my 9 am class my speed test on 3G will be around 2.2 down 1.2 up. After the class is out, my test is then .15 down and .05 up.

That's off a legacy tower too. 2 towers on UCF campus, only one of them has NV (but not accepted yet) and the other is legacy. It blowsss

  6. Have you guys seen a lack of ehrpd, particularly around the South-East side of Jax? Don't think my phone has reported ehrpd on 3G for about two weeks now.

Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

I'm not in the Jax area but in Orlando I've been noticing my phone will connect to eHRPD but once it attempts to use data it will cycle back and fourth and end up on EVDO. For example, on multiple occasions I've seen the network strength indicator flash like it's trying to connect but immediately gets disconnected and then attempts to connect again. After 10 seconds or so of attempting to connect to eHRPD my phone will park itself on EVDO, or if I'm in a weak signal area, 1x.

I'm HOPING they're upgrading the software so they can deploy 800. We desperately need it around here, especially around UCF.

  7. I just noticed that my LTE signal has improved dramatically in my office in Research Park- It was like this right after the tower just north of my building was accepted. About a week after it was accepted the signal strength decreased significantly to the point of not being able to stay connected. My LTE signal strength now is that of what it was right after the acceptance, which is very good. Does anyone think this could have been because of a downtilt tweak or something else? That's the only tower within 3 miles that has been accepted, so they must have done something to it but I can't figure out what.

  8. 1 data upgrade. And the 3g is unusable as of today. I wish my house was made from concrete....I can hear peoples conversations when they are outside. The insulation is minimal I think and the floors are not even concrete. Some type of sheetrock composite crap. Neighbors can hear me walking upstairs...

That sucks, I used to live in an apartment like that. But a data speed upgrade on a legacy site could be a T1 upgrade. I would imagine ripping and replacing an entire set of equipment on a hotel roof could be disruptive for its guests, so Raddison could be holding off on letting them upgrade fully to NV in a timely manner. That would be my guess.

I'm still waiting on a tower on the north side of UCF to be accepted. Its had NV antennas and RRUs for 6 months now but I haven't noticed any new equipment at the base. I did notice they are building another brick equipment shelter at the base of the tower but from what I understand most new base station equipment for NV can be housed outside. And the shelter is pretty big, about twice the size of the ones that are already there. Who knows. I just hope I see it accepted by the time I graduate in May.

  9. Well... Abysmal 3G speeds in my apartment. Hope they are updating the tower on alafaya and colonial on top of the raddison finally to fix that giant gap of coverage. Didn't see anything on the map though so not sure. Regardless, I'm excited

Edit: could this have anything to do with it

Does it say data speed or capacity upgrade? I drove by there the other day and noticed it still had legacy panels. There's also a clearwire site co-located as well, I'm curious if they put updates to the clear network on the main coverage update maps on sprint.com now.

PS at least you get 3G in your apartment lol. The all concrete structure I live in causes my phone to drop down to 1x. Needless to say I'm glad I have wifi. 800mhz can't come soon enough

  10. Was at Disney World over Christmas and New Years. There is solid LTE through all Disney World parks. Data is unusable at Universal Studios.

I'm not sure why Sprint hasn't made the Universal Studios area more of a priority, if I remember correctly the site closest to there is till legacy. COME ON BAND 41 / SPARK(le) UPDATE! ;)

  11. Im afraid for Sprint, they are basically done with NV (phase 1) in Chicago, touted the hell out of the network over the summer, and now things are worse than ever downtown.  I'm afraid they are going to churn like crazy until real tri band is in place at every tower and at least 50% of users have tri band phones.  Like you, I have no idea what an additional 5x5 carrier on B25 will do. I also have no idea if its 100% set in stone Chicago is getting an additional 5x5 LTE carrier from the USCC shutdown, or when.

Either way though, its pretty obvious Sprint was victimized by its own NV program here in Chicago.  They ripped down the old network, built a new one, migrated everyone from WiMax, migrated all USCC customers, migrated everyone with 3G only devices, and now have nothing but a slow and overcrowded LTE network.  I'm really excited for what this network will be once true Tri-Band is in place all over the country and all three spectrum blocks are full deployed, but I am pretty disappointed in NV thus far.  I guess in hindsight, to be completely honest, if I fully understood the differences between LTE deployments (Freq & spectrum width) on various carriers when I re-upped in 2012, I probably would have gone in a different direction.

See, someone like me who spends most of my time in the suburbs, I really have no complaints about the service and speed out here. Sure, data gets slow when I go to places like Woodfield Mall or the Loop but in aggregate I'm satisfied with the work they have done. Unfortunately Sprint was a victim of their own success with respect to the city proper. However for the most part I feel NV has been successful for us out in the suburbs. Hopefully by mid-year we will see more tri-band phones out there with the additional carriers deployed, and the problems in the city will be solved. I guess time will tell.

  12. Also, question for my city folks. Anyone have troubles at Ogilvy station? I now work here at 500 W Madison and my Sprint service is awful. There are fully 4G enabled towers in each direction just a thousand or two feet away and I can't get an LTE signal at all.  Im stuck on 3G only and its unuseably slow.  Im seeing 3G SNR of 1-2 DB.  Just doesn't seem right.  Anyone else had issues at or around Ogilvy?

Haven't been down there in a while, but this makes me wonder if another 5x5 carrier will be enough in the loop. Unfortunately many people do not have tri band phones and it will take at least a year or more for a significant percentage of subscribers to have these phones in hand to take advantage of the other bands. And when you take into account moral hazard, even if a secondary carrier does improve capacity to some extent, people will be inclined to use even more data once they see it starts working faster again and they may just end up right back to where they where.

Obviously I hope this isn't the case, but anyone feel that this might happen if Chicago does get another 5x5 band 25 carrier?

  13. Will I run into any issues if I swap from my nexus 5 to my old GS3 and back again? They had a heck of a time activating it when I first bought the phone so I don't want to screw anything up. The reason I want to do this is because I can't seem to figure out how to flash PRLs on the Nexus 5 and I want to force roam on VZW when I go to Universal this weekend (Sprint is unusable there... Still -__-) hopefully when we get the spark update I won't have that issue if there is Band 41 available over there. Thanks!

  14. Orlando has been launched everybody! ENJOY! lol

Hopefully it's a good thing. Something like 800Mhz being rolled out. Maybe?

Doubt it, but if so it would be a miracle. But then I would need the nexus 5 update to enable triband anyway, so it looks like I'll have to make due.

Anyone know how long it took in Chicago for all(most) of their issues to be resolved after they launched the market there?

  15.

Carolina West is a SRA with Sprint.

SRA or Strategic Roaming Alliance partners are telecommunication partners that Sprint has agreements with to build or mirror the Sprint CDMA network to provide service to customers in rural areas.

Sprint cannot sell in the SRA Markets.

All Sprint CDMA customers can enjoy all of the Sprint CDMA voice, text messaging, Ready Link and Vision/Power Vision services, while traveling in SRA territories using any Sprint CDMA device, PDA or Connection Card without roaming indicators.

Customers should have the latest PRL to acquire SRA territories.

Pricing - Sprint subscribers will not be charged for roaming in these areas. Usage is billed as on-network

That's good to know, thanks! So I'm guessing its still possible that legacy sites, either Sprint or SRA, could only be 1x?

I do not remember any 1x only coverage on that route when I went through there in October -- but I wasn't watching my phone the whole time either.

As far as Carolina West, I believe they are the ones that I was in "home" coverage with when I was in Lake Lure in June -- I noticed that I *WAS* not in a normal Sprint coverage when (a) I had EVDO and not EHRDP and (B) there were NO sprint sites on the maps in the sponsor section here.  I *DID* have smoking fast EVDO speeds I had never seen on Sprint up to that point though (I must have been the only one on that site or something)...

When I was connected to EVDO in the area I did notice really nice speeds as well, my guess of why I was seeing 1x only could have been due to the mountainous terrain. Was just curious to see if 1x only sites still existed on the sprint legacy network from my observations today. Thanks!
