  1. Why would you not be looking when you're taking a picture? You shooting up skirts or something? Lol.

Even if the old camera displayed wrong I didn't notice and it looked a lot better aesthetically.

Why does it have to look good? I thought a camera is supposed to take great pictures not look good while doing it. I rather have function over aesthetics.

  2. I have a feeling that should the networks merge, Sprint would try to adopt GSM over CDMA, but still keep Sprint's more modern infrastructure. That, or run both until we transition to LTE only networks.

Sprint also has a lot of spectrum for LTE which is part of the reason why Spark is so fast. Sprint averages over 40Mbps on the download on Spark in my area. Once 800MHz is complete, I'll have no doubt saying that Sprint has the strongest network in NYC.

I would think they probably will run both GSM and CDMA since adopting GSM would require everyone on the Sprint network to have a GSM phone.

To add to your Sprint spectrum comment, Sprint currently holds the most spectrum of all the US networks mainly because of B41 and if combined with TM's spectrum it would actually give VZ and At&t a reason to worry.

  3. Hey all first post here :). What do you think about the potential merger between tmobile and sprint? If they merge how are the towers going to be combined?

Well for starters T-Mobile uses GSM technology while Sprint uses CDMA, so that should be interesting to see them choose one over the other.

When T-Mobile acquired metroPCS they got 1900mhz PCS band #2 and 1700mhz band #4 which they are using for LTE now on GSM Technology. metroPCS CDMA technology should be shut down by 2015 in favor of TM GSM.

Recently My father in law switched to TM from VZ and got himself a Nexus 5. I did a speed test against my N5 at my house. His N5 got an average of 28/10 mbps in my house where I got 4/1 mbps with my N5 at the same time. Im serious it smoked my home optimum WiFi 18/7 mbps the day I did the test. The reason is that TM is currently using 20mhz of bandwidth vs Sprint's 10mhz on B25.

So TM currently hold lots of bandwith spectrum (1700 1900 2100) plus they just recently acquired a portion of block A 700mhz band 12 from Verizon. I also read an article where Softbanks Masayoshi Son wants Legere to lead the show if the merger goes thru since Legere has proven himself in Q1 this year.

If Sprint merges with TM it will not be an easy transition of combining networks. but together they can become the most powerful network in the country.

  4. So I broke down and bought the N5 today to replace my G2. Everything that has been said about the beastly RF'ness with this device was completely true!

I was picking up B25 in areas where I couldn't even get B26! :D (and I know that said tower is broadcasting B26)

Just now got my MSL and enabled B26, so I am excited to see how much (or little) I fall back to 3G. I tried flashing a PRL without success. Oh well. This thing probably never needs 1x800 anyway.

Oh don't worry I think 1x800 is the N5 first priority. most of my calls start out on 1x800 on my N5.

  5. depends the plan you have, i have 6 lines is 270 monthly bill plus taxes and fees is 315 so my line is 45 dollars plus taxes and fees is 52dollars with an upgrade every 20 months, got 4 lg g2 for free that is a 2000 savings vs the framily plan. even if i have to buy the full price i still save 5 dollars

Sure that's a great deal You got lucky with the free lg g2 since is currently $99 with contract. But I rather have the freedom of no contract. I have 7 lines and I pay on my line $25 for service (unl. Talk and text) plus T&F, $20 for unlimited data (I can upgrade after 12 months) plus $16 dollars for the unlocked awesome nexus 5 which I can pay off anytime and keep the bill lower.

  6. I still prefer to have a 2 year contract over easy pay. I know ATT did something way back when the iPhone 4 came out and let people upgrade 6 months early if they go for that device. Not saying any of this would happen, but it would be a great way to relieve some stress without increasing peoples monthly bill. Not everyone wants to pay an additional 27 on top of their monthly bill, and would rather just do the one time 199 or whatever it is and be done with it.

Like I said before I'm saving monthly even with the additional easypay installments on top of my monthly service. I also opted for the yearly upgrade with unlimited data and I'm still paying less than when I was under contract. Don't forget I also have the option of paying off the phone and switching carriers if I ever wanted to. If you do the math you will see its not really much of a difference. I believe more people will see the benefits and lean to the no contract and unlocked phone route. Nevertheless it will help the network.

  7. It's kinda cool how Sprint has it's own backup plan without doing anything. Overcrowding due to so many phones on b25, and as they release newer phones which are ALL going to be Tri-band it helps alleviate the issue. If at least 2 out of every 5 people have triband device, I can imagine the impact on network speeds. Sprint should really do a promotion and get people onto triband devices, even if it costs them money. Give people 6 month early upgrades without easy pay or subsidies if you renew your contract. Do the same with iPhone 6 when it comes out (so I can get it lol). Masa said he was willing to loose money like he did with Softbank (1 billion a year for 4 years). Let's see it!

I think Sprint its moving away from contracts. I was able to get a new Nexus 5 6 months early by switching to framily plan on easy pay and saving monthly at the same time.

  8. Im not currently on a Framily plan, but my sister is...and she has no issues on youtube.

Well I'm not really too upset about it. It may have something to do with the location as it has only happen very few times in some places not everywhere. Most of the time is fine. Too many variables of what it could be (rf, modems, network, location, etc.). I am still very happy with the N5 and don't regret getting it. As for the network I wish we can fast forward to 2015 and enjoy what we are being promised. I have been with Sprint since I was inherited from nextel and I'm not going anywhere.

    :-)

  9. Look at the details in speedtest, compared to the time on the top right hand corner (7:12pm vs 10:47pm). I took the screen cap when I got home.

    Gotcha

I have not had any issues with degraded video performance, I use Aereo, Netflix, Plex youtube etc...

Lucky you Mr .15 radio lol. Are you on a framily plan? I have only experienced degraded video quality on YouTube when im not on Wi-Fi. I'm stock N5 and never seen speeds higher than 12mbps. I'm just wondering about framily plan data restrictions

  10. Are you on framily? Under framily terms, they can restrict your download speeds when watching videos to 1 mbps. I personally watched several youtube videos and move trailers yesterday on LTE at a friends house, and it was HD quality.

This explains why my video quality has been grainy lately I thought it was my new N5. I just recently went with the framily plan with the unlimited data upgrade and got the N5 on easy pay. At least I'm not under contract.

Do you know if they still restrict when u upgrade to unlimited data?

  11. Band 41 in Brooklyn!

Congratulations bro! Its good to see another happy Sprint B41 user. Your screenshots also confirm the power of band 41 on the HOT! brand new HTC M8. I almost wished I waited a little longer for it instead of jumping the gun on the not so ready N5. Its OK tho I still love my N5. I need to take nextgencpu advice and flash it.

  12. That article is pretty much accurate. Sprint is terrible data wise in Manhattan. But overall its good in Brooklyn and other boroughs except Manhattan. Not sure whats the deal there. I also go to Rockland county a lot and LTE there is almost everywhere. Its also always above 15mb/s because of the lower population.

The deal there is that the majority of Sprint subscribers are using Band 25 only devices. Band 25 is narrow and crowded just like The FDR going uptown at rush hour. Had they used a true tri band spark enabled device like a G2 it would of been a different article.

  13. That's a ridiculous signal level! You must be in a poor 1900 area. All I've seen is 1900 everywhere I go excluding one cave where 800 kicked in.

I was making a call out in a public shopping area late in the evening hours and I found it strange since I'm idling on 1xRTT 1900 90% percent of the time.

  14. 800 voice or band 26 LTE? In regards to voice people have been reporting trouble getting connected to 800. Partly because the n5 is a rf beast, and partly due to the new prl's favoring 1900.

No trouble with 800 voice on my end. I seem to connect this way very often in the last week. Posted Image
  15. My main point is that there isn't necessarily a spark update coming.it could veryvwell just be bug fixes.

This is also a concern. No confirmation from Google about this Spark tri-band issue. I'm not even sure if Sprint users are on Google's radar. They haven't mentioned anything about it the way they mentioned the camera issues. The only thing I found was this about spark: https://productforums.google.com/forum/m/#!msg/nexus/WxDfsrJSfO4/vh69Q5T7cdMJ

  16. I think it's a little more than that; I have all bands enabled and have messed with the priorities quite a bit on .15, .17, and .23 radios, and have never caught anything but regular B25 LTE. Plus, if it was that simple, it would have been included in the 4.4.1 or 4.4.2 updates already released, or the initial software update that was handled upon first bootup.

    -Mike

thanks for clearing that one up. Anyway check this out:

    http://www.gottabemobile.com/2014/03/26/android-4-4-3-kitkat-release-nexus-5-nexus-4-nexus-7/

  17. Samsung and HTC pretty much launched their previous Spark enabled phones with a Day 1 OTA update. I wouldn't be surprised to see the GS5 and HTC One M8 be Spark ready out of the box.

It was LG who took a little bit to get the Spark update working on the G2, and, even then, the G2 got the update a long time ago now.

Now it's just Google that's holding back the Spark update for the Nexus 5. Unlike the other Spark capable phones, this one is on the Nexus timeline, so we're essentially waiting on 4.4.3 or later. Based on the latest tracking information, 4.4.3 is already being tested, but whether that update comes out before or after the GS5's and M8's release dates in April, we can't tell. For all we know, the 4.4.3 build seen could still have bugs they need to iron out that would delay the release past April, or it could have tested perfectly and release tomorrow. Of course, I'm hoping we get it before them, but I won't be too disappointed if it doesn't.

My question was referring to the fact that the GS5 and M8 are running kit Kat and sprint is already advertising them on their website as Spark enabled phones. Currently no other spark phone is running Kitkat except for the N5. I was under the impression that kitkat might have been the reason the N5 is not spark ready. Since older kitkat builds like the one with the .15 radio have a better ability to latch onto B41, I figured maybe Google is still trying to get it right.

So my confusion is more technical than anything else. What exactly does Google need to do to kitkat (other than just enable three LTE bands) that maybe Samsung did to the GS5 or HTC did to the M8 to get them radios to function on Spark. And what was done on the G2 or S4 updates to work on Spark.
