  1. You are. There are multiple triband phones, but the nexus 5 is the only one that is priced off contract for 349 from google play..so you got that part right. :)

What I meant is that the Nexus 5 is the only phone that Sprint carries that is unlocked and can access LTE Bands 1,2,4,5,17,19,25,26,41 making it usable on T-Mobile and AT&T LTE networks by switching Sim cards.

  2. having owned Galaxy devices previously and wanting a tri-band to play around with it. I've only had it a few days and will be returning it before the end of the 14-day window. but having been using iPhones for the last several years, I realized pretty quickly I made the right choice to leave Samsung behind.

I recommend you try out the nexus 5 for one major reason that completely sold me, its the only phone that gives me the freedom to go. It has the ability to use T-Mobile's and AT&T's network with the switch of a Sim card. You can also enjoy B25 B26 and B41 on Sprint's network. Something you can't do with any other phone in the market right now. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong)

If you can purchase the phone and stay away from contract plans this would help with network frustrations since currently no network is perfect. I have friends on other network that have their complaints that's why I never left Sprint and decided to stick it out.

  3. not yet seen any proof of that, at least not from Midtown up. as I said yesterday, with my job near Columbus Circle and playing with the S5 for the last few days, I've found a fairly narrow strip with band 41 and everywhere else was 25. overall, it seems quite a bit like the initial testing period of LTE on the UWS where the service was fast but coverage minimal. based on my use, there's no access to band 41 on the West Side north of CPS. to this point, I've not seen band 26 anywhere.

also, I so wish there was a tri-band iPhone. having not used a Samsung device for several years and going back to this S5 has me longing from my iPhone again. the S5 is a disaster.

What made you choose the S5?
  4. finally had my first experience with band 41 today. was able to connect to it around 55th and 6th and stayed connected until 58th and 8th roughly. here are the data speeds:

    (1) 17.37 down, 6.82 up, ping 80

    (2) 23.24 down, 11.30 up, ping 57

    (3) 6.92 down, 6.03 up, ping 62

test (2) was on 55th between 7th and 8th. by the time I got to 8th approaching 58th street, the signal was considerably weaker and test (3) was what I obtained at that point. as I work in midtown, basically everywhere north of 55th and east of broadway is solely band 25. really only found band 41 in that very narrow strip I described. will try farther downtown tomorow.

Come to the Bronx and try out band 41 over here. I warn You will be hooked. I was in your shoes a year ago hating sprint and ready to jump ship. Now I'm hooked on tri-band using my nexus 5. I just got my wife the awesome LG G3 and she is hooked on WiFi calling. Can't wait for more B26 goodness to deploy.

I learned to forget the past and focus on the future of Sprint now that is in better hands (Softbank $$$).

Mobile Technology is changing too fast for all carriers. I realize its mostly about cell radio spectrum bandwidth and the resources behind it that makes a strong network survive this fast pace mobile business. I believe Sprint definitely has a winning chance at it.

  5. It doesn't feel random but I haven't been specifically tracking it. So far the worst seems to be I44 until I cross into Illinois. Once I'm on 255 driving North I do not drop LTE. Again this could point to what you were saying about tower spacing and scan time. Since my phone usage pretty much has stayed the same but I have noticed enough of a difference in how often my phone shows 3g versus LTE in areas where I have previously had good and/or usable LTE the new radio appears to be the culprit.

I don't agree with the new radio being the culprit. I think the old radios were ignoring network CFSB issues where the new radio seems to place you on the band with the best service making sure you receive calls. A usable LTE band is not "really" usable if it has CFSB problems. Unless you are not concern with receiving calls then I guess the 4.4.4 radio is not the one for you.
  6. zero issues getting/receiving calls on .15 for me

I was implying to his B26 signal. Since it seems that a lot of B26 sites are not ecsfb optimized. At least here in NYC Anytime I find a B26 signal it doesn't last long before jumping on to 3G on the 2.x.x.16 radio. I have no problems with B25 and B41.
  7. At work on 1.15 stay on weak usable B26 LTE with about 1-3 Mbps speed. On 2.16. Drop to 1900 ehprd almost unusable until I toggle airplane mode then its OK LTE for maybe a half hour.

Good luck on getting phone calls tho. 1.15 seems to ignore ecsfb problems.
  8. I'm wondering how sprint handles the voice process at my home. When I'm at home I get a fringe signal that goes back and forth from LTE B41 (-120dbm/-132dbm) to 3G (1xRTT/ehrpd -104dbm) while is sitting on my desk idling. Sometimes it goes into 1x800 @ -85dbm (SCP alert) but it doesn't hold for long.

When I'm at work and many other places and I place a call I have been getting great call service on 1x800 or 1xRTT (sometimes HD), but when I'm home my calls are bad, they seem to break up a lot or even drop at times making it very unreliable. I know I may have some very thick walls to deal with but what about that 1x800 signal that occasionally comes in? It doesn't seem to come in when I'm on a call. Can this be that my nearest cell site needs some calibration or downtilt?

  9. Inside my apartment I get a weak fringe signal that always kept me on 3G with a -104dbm signal, but with this new 4.4.4 radio my N5 is camping on B41 ranging from -118dBm to -131dBm. I didn't think B41 could penetrate like that.

  10. My nexus 5 is far inferior to my m8 in acquiring and maintaining b41 connections in the same locations.

The n5 appears to be less sensitive to b41 (or too sensitive to b25). It will pick up b41 outside, but inside has been very problematic, for me.

I'm in stl with legacy wimax conversions. Perhaps nv2 will better balance the b41, right now the m8 wins hands down.

All that said, I have and do pick up all 3 bands since the 4.4.3/4.4.4 releases.

I am currently using the "L" radio, I can't perceive much if any differences between it and the last radio though.

I can't speak for the M8 but here in NYC specially in the Bronx my N5 seems more sensitive to B41. I seem to connect to B41 75% of the time. I have no complaints since the 4.4.3 update. I can personally say the N5 has been the best phone I ever had.

  11. Just making sure lol. I want the nexus 5 but idk if I should hold out until the iPhone 6/ nexus 6 or the g3

It all depends on what you value the most. I personally like the simplicity of stock android. I would hold to see what Google I/O brings. But that G3 does look tempting.
  12. Yep, did that of course, and all devices have 4.4.3. I'm reasonably intelligent with 35 years of electronics engineering experience so I can at least be taught. I try and follow these forums but it's easy to miss something due to the sheer amount of data hence the post(s) looking for info. Personally I gave up on Sprint years ago and have a phone from another provider, but following Sprint is a bit of a hobby and still have phones for family on Sprint.

Assuming that if data is barely working and you're in the vicinity of a Spark tower then you're not getting Spark.

If they've been working on the network then they've been doing so since the first part of May when the kiddo's moved down there.

Try going into to the Dallas forums and see how other spark devices are performing. here in NYC I have been connecting to B41 a lot more in the last few days. I'm under the impression that Sprint has made changes since the update came. I came to the conclusion the 4.4.3 update was never the problem, it has been the network all along. The.13 radio seems to show where the network needs a fix.
  13. So what do I need to do different on the three N5s I have that don't receive Spark service in Dallas/Fort Worth?

maybe try a PRL and a profile update on all three devices. Spark is working on my N5 just perfect here in NYC. maybe they are working on the network there. How sure are u that Spark is not working on these devices? have u checked to see if all three bands are enabled on them?
  14. I have no complaints with the Nexus 5 or the new .13 radio. Works great on all LTE bands. LTE to 3G back to LTE works as it should, displaying where there are network issues. IMO This is the phone Sprint network engineers should be using to calibrate the network.

  15. Here in the Bronx B41 is almost every where I go. I work outdoors and it seems that every time I check im on B41. Its about 80% of the time. And every time I catch B25 it doesn't seem to hold for long before it hands over to B41. B26 seems to be a work in progress, whenever I see it I get the "no calls" message before knocking me down to 3G.
