How ironic that my contract renewal date is on 12-1.

I tested another tower that has gone live with eHRPD this morning and got the highest I've ever gotten in a cellular speedtest (by that, I mean highest download..I've seen upload speeds higher)... which is:
Doesn't seem like much, (and it really isn't much), but for my area and the tests I've seen in the past, it IS a total opposite from what I'm used to.
-
I just got back from dropping off the wife at work, and from what I saw, using the CDMA tool, 1xRTT doesn't report BSLON and BSLAT like the eHRPD towers I'm seeing ...
Not sure why, but the tool let me map the towers that were reporting eHRPD (more than 1 tower in my area has changed over)...
A month ago I did speedtests in this area and never got nothing but 1xRTT and never got speeds over .30mbps down or up...
but just now, I did a few speedtests and got speeds of 1.20mbps down, .73mbps up....
-
Does eHRPD require any work on site at the towers or is it something they change at the switch that feeds the tower?

I'll be overjoyed just to see anycity, Alabama on some sort of schedule. So far nothing in the entire state has been announced (but they have turned on eHRPD in my neighboring town 8 miles away). Apparently work may be starting in Sylacauga but I guess they are getting backhaul to the one tower. I'm curious to know about a new tower Robert mentioned for this area a while back and where it is.

I'm seeing it in Sylacauga, Alabama...I know it's been done in the past month, because I have speedtests showing I was on 1xRTT in October, then speedtests showing me on eHRPD on Nov 11.
This was a fluke I think in my phone being hung on eHRPD...no voice, but eHRPD data?? Look:
This was true eHRPD, I ran this and speedtest to test it, but speeds are negligible, I've seen faster speeds, but seems like the tower doesn't have the right amount of backhaul yet
Then:

I still get duplicate messages and noticed a slight hang when on data and not Wi-Fi

I despise them as a company, and how they work....but it's the ONLY..and I do mean ONLY way I have of getting high-speed internet at home. I used to have their landline blah blah complete "choice" crap...but that's a joke and cost me way more than it ever saved anyone.
-
I currently have DSL...but it's DSL over copper from AT&T..so this might affect me. I'm just not sure how...I live next to the hut, and the hut doesn't have an IPDSLAM in it...which would provide U-verse if it did have one...
So will AT&T swap the current DSLAM and put a new IPDSLAM in it's place so that I continue to have DSL?? It'll still be DSL to my house...but fiber to the hut already in place....so just the equipment needs to be changed.
If they don't swap, and they just cut the DSLAM out and lose the copper network providing me DSL, then I get left out in the cold with the other people in this area who sub to their DSL..and we have to go from having DSL the past 5 years back to having nothing again (except wireless data services)
If AT&T thinks for one minute that this will push me into sub'ing to their 4G LTE network...they are BADLY mistaken. I don't care that the AT&T tower is ONE mile from my house, and if they outfit that tower with LTE, I'll likely get BLAZING speeds...doesn't bother me one bit...I want my DSL, and would rather have U-verse...and they aren't going to bully me into going over to their capped, crappy LTE / HSPA+ network with fake 4G.

It is either 30 or 60 days of having the airave unplugged before Sprint will ask for it back, or to have the customer plug it in. Even at 30 days, it is fair to say that the customer is not using it, and it is an expensive device for Sprint to just give out and never get back. Not sure why this seems too difficult to accept. And if wifi calling is so wonderful, why don't you download an app that does wifi voip? Then you don't have to deal with the airave, and you don't use any minutes on your plan.
'Tis true. I've tried the various VOIP apps on Android, and they all leave something to be desired. Even being a Vonage customer doesn't get me any extra "android" perks, as one would expect. I know there are a couple of Vonage apps, but they don't affect me much, as I've never, not once, made an international phone call (unless you count calls to AT&T DSL tech support).

Mine was unplugged due to utility issues
I put mine behind my router as I didn't like the idea of someone else's device controlling and passing all my data. I can QOS it myself along with my other VoIP line if I need to. It's even on it's own VLAN that I throw devices on that I have no control over (satellite receivers, security system, etc). I let them all "play" in their own sandbox away from my PC's and such. Yes, it's kind of tinfoil hatty but trust is the number security hole.
I wish you had time to walk me through setting up a QoS on my Buffalo WHR-HP-G300N.
I'm not totally up-to-speed on what QoS would give me...
since I make my own repeaters with compatible DDWRT routers, I'm sure I could grasp rather quickly..just never took the time to actually sit down and make myself study it.
My biggest problem has been making all my routers work on only 1 IP range. Instead, I have 192.168.1.1 for some devices, and a cat 5 running from 1 of the 4 ports into a Belkin N router, using those for 192.168.2.1, a cat 5 running from it into my Netgear WNDR3400 which is 192.168.5.1, then a Linksys E4200 that is a repeater of 192.168.1.1
Bet I confused someone with that, didn't I.
(edit)
Oh, and I give my neighbor internet too, and his Netgear WNR2000 V2 is a repeater of the Linksys E4200.
So I have a BUNCH of routers running...but I need them ALL.

Mine was unplugged for a week and they never called.

Same here.
I don't really think the Airave is a waste of time, as it does have it's logical use and if working appropriately, does exactly what it should. Granted, devices have trouble and don't always work well, and maybe a soak test would've benefited Sprint with the Airvana 2.0 instead of just punching it out to people before knowing it worked as it was supposed to.
I'm betting that the 2.5 has better memory capacity for upgraded software so if issues arise, they can be addressed without having the customer need to call in, get a trouble ticket, get a replacement, and swap-out devices.
Where I live, the Airave can't just hand-off to another tower when I leave, because there is no Sprint network for it to do so with...I have a strong Verizon signal when I'm not in my Airave coverage, but the Airave won't hand-off from Airave coverage to roaming coverage....which makes sense.
I could unplug my Airave right now and get 3-4 bars inside on my SGS3. But that's roaming 3-4 bars, and if I was to do so for too long, Sprint would send me that letter saying "You are the weakest link, goodbye."
I've had mine unplugged for up to 2 weeks..back when I was trying to test different ways of having my internet connected to in different ways (because even though I don't like to admit it, I do put quite a strain on my DSL connection.)
But so far, texts are sent within 1-2 seconds of hitting "send"...and I've sent my wife texts and she receives them rather quickly
( <15 seconds after I have sent.)
-
Seems to be doing fine so far. Two days nearly and no repeat texts or bad phone calls. Texts are nearly immediate. We will see how long it lasts.
Up until recently, I never had problems with any airave. They worked well for me until the problem started.

My home-made entertainment center had to be manipulated to house all the junk I now have sitting on it...routers, airave, TV, Ps3..plus baby-proofed...so instead of using the bottom of the thing, I had to move everything to the top and tear out / add some extra wood at the top...so to keep little hands off of important, high $$$ devices.
My son at age 2 messed up my DVD-RAM drive in my Toshiba laptop that was 3 months old...and since that happened, I had been very cautious in allowing my kids near ANYTHING I own that costs more than $15 and runs off of electricity.

Photos / Side-by-side comparison of Airave 2.0 and Airave 2.5 (Airvana):
(pics taken with my SGS3 - Airave 2.5 is the one hooked up to wires, and I just noticed that not only was my TV a magnet for dust - which sits below this Airave, so was the Airave itself, looking at the ventilation fins)

It did come in and is hooked up already, but I didn't get it on unto it was time to watch election results. Now it's time to cry

I do use Wi-Fi, but sometimes have a need for 3g so it's good. Like if someone comes over and I don't want to take the time to punch in my Wi-Fi key for them or share my key, they hit 3g anyway so it doesn't matter.

I'll get the pictures today/tonight later on...I'm at my wife's family's home having dinner this evening, but I know for sure that the new 2.5 Airvana was delivered this evening after i left. I waited around as long as I could for UPS to come deliver it, but just couldn't wait any more. Hopefully I can activate it online, because it might be a bit late when I get back (But I'm sure Sprint will be open/available if I have to call up until 9/10pm CST.)
Does anyone know if you can activate this the same way you can do with a phone on the Sprint website?? I've changed out phones using the "Activate phone" part of the site...but never had to do it with the Airvana.
I'm hoping that folks that are reporting that the 2.5 doesn't solve the texting problems and voice garbling issues just have a problem on their end, in their modems or routers..because I really don't want to deal with having a worse-off service than I had with the 2.0 Airvana.
Really the only trouble-free Airave thing I've had was the Samsung version...but it wasn't 3G. It's hard to have Google+, Photobucket app, Fbook, and Picasa syncing pictures on a 1RXTT connection to data.
-
Was at the dr office with my son yesterday and while waiting, I decided to check on speeds for the Sylacauga area again...because usually the speeds are just atrocious, even when connected to a Sprint tower here in Sylacauga...
But something's changed. looks like maybe they've done some backhaul work here, because I was clearing 1.00mbps download, and .80+mbps upload speeds on the 20 different tests I ran.
So something has been done locally here in central Alabama...whether they are listing the work or not, I'm not sure..but Robert said a new site was added to the Syl market back in September...maybe they are still working on the other sites that were here as well.
-
From what I've looked at online, there's very little difference in the appearance..but I'll see for myself -- maybe tomorrow -- when the 2.5 gets here.
I actually still have the box for this one I have currently..even though it's a year old. Guess I need to dig it out and put that internal GPS antenna back in the thing...since where I have to put the Airave, the internal antenna won't work. I'm interested in knowing if they've changed the antenna design..or made it easier to run it instead of having that huge piece of plastic on the end. For someone who likes to hide wires, that big, round plastic eye-sore in a window is annoying....and there's no subtle way to hide it.
-
If anyone would like, I'll do a comparison of the current Airave (Airvana) and the new 2.5 that I'm going to receive (probably tomorrow)...and will include pictures as well...but please let me know before I send the current one of it you want pics, as I have to get the one being replaced back to Sprint relatively quick.

Yeah I'm an admin/mod etc and usually am scouring 2 or 3 forums at once. Forgive my incessant rambling

Why wouldn't you have a land line for a business?
Because AT&T couldn't, for 18 months straight, make my bill the $82 they said it would be...so after paying over $140 a month for 18 months for home phone + DSL, I got rid of them and stuck with DSL only. Now my bill is $47.95 like it should be. Plus, it's an at-home business, so I decide if I want to use cell or home phone..and I've used my cell for business...which is pretty common...why else would I need a landline? I'm not paying the ridiculous prices they want to charge for them.
Next Door? 2000 feet? Do you live in Buckatunna MS or something?
Have you done any tests on the path to the server?
It is something with your setup as I have an Airvana and my wife talks on her S3 all the time with it and never complains. And trust me if it dropped one packet she would let me know.
Sent from my C64 w/Epyx FastLoad cartridge
That not 2000ft. More like 500 from DSLAM to the copper drop.
And there's nothing wrong with my line, as the 4 years of speed tests would show. The only time I ever had a problem was when I had water get into my line, and I promptly changed that, then got a new modem.
Downstream 8124 Upstream 511 (in kbps).
And given my experience, I know when I have a problem. There's nothing wrong on my end.
In fact, the Sprint tech admitted there is a problem with the Airvana 2.0 and said the 2.5 solves it (like the multiple texts).
Maybe I should give a list of what I have going on my connection, and still getting speed tests at 5meg per second....
3 routers wired together, 2 computers, one laptop, kindle iPod, 2 SGS3 phones, Dish Hopper, Dish joey, (yes, both are connected via cat5), a DDWRT router next door acting as a repeater (it's actually a linksys e4200 with DDWRT installed)
1 PS3, 2 PSPs, Kindle Fire, Vonage box, Sprint Airvana, Toshiba 55" LED 3D tv, and Samsung 46" LCD TV.
That's just off the top of my head, but I know the next thing will be "oh, you got too much stuff on your DSL for the Airave to work right"
Nope. Been using Airave since 2009,...Went from the Samsung Airave to the AIrvana they had, and now going to the new 2.5 version...up until I bought this 3G version, I never had the problem, especially since I got my Galaxy S3 it's really been bad. Before the GS3 was brought into the picture, the Airvana worked pretty well...nothing has changed, my connection is still the same is has been since 2008 when they put DSL in next door...
Not only that, I been a tech for QUITE a while. So I know if I have a problem, and actually I have the tools to test my line for noise.
I actually had to call AT&T once and tell them that I was on a noise profile and needed to be taken off -- it was when water got into my line and caused a lot of racket on the copper...there automated DSL scan tool sensed the noise and put me on a noise profile so that I would only connect on quiet channels..which caused me MAJOR problems once I got the new line installed. When I called them and had them remove the noise profile...problem solved and my connection went back up to normal.
I don't want to sound like I'm bragging, but I know my sh*t...and I know when a device on my network has a problem.
-
No, I should also mention that I live literally next door to the AT&T hut for my area, which houses the dslam. And a "friend"of mine who did dsl installs cut about 2000 ft of line off of me so I'm the first person coming off the dslam for dsl.
Plus all the speed tests I've ever ran show me with less than .05%. I just had a conversation with the Sprint tech on my Vonage line while speed testing, and she was pinging the airave too, still under the amount I listed for jitter.

Does anyone know the steps to reprovision your S3 using your MSL #

Maybe it's different for a Gs3? Mine is rooted, and here's what it does:
My wife's is NOT rooted, and it does the same thing, but she's gone to work right now, can't video it.
