  1. Well, after a few days break from wireless reading, i'm back online and to report I have my device situation resolved now with the Axon 7 I won in a contest that is working quite well for me.

    Also, as some here may figure, the election results have me even more convinced that mergers in the wireless industry are a prime thing now, as I have no doubt of it. With both the House and Senate being Republican, along with Trump already choosing corporate executives to key positions, well "exploratory names", I'm almost willing to bet the next few years are going to be filled with mergers and acquisitions. I doubt T-Mobile and Sprint will be allowed to merge under Softbank, due to the foreign issue. but perhaps T-Mobile acquiring Sprint, or heck my main wish in wireless mergers that AT&T has a successful second attempt at T-Mobile. It'll be interesting what happens with all of this...

    Sorry, but no. At&t has enough conglomerate activity going for it and already has the FCC looking at it's new OTT video service with raised brow... I have to deal with the at&t only life for being the only provider of any type of internet service and they are stagnant and declining in DSL tech. 8 years of at&t only and I've had enough of them.

  2. I'm seeing odd behavior on Cspire LTE roaming...it'll hold data for a while, then it says I have no signal, then 1x comes back...and have to cycle airplane to get LTE roaming back.

    I'm testing a piece of network equipment and decided to try phone hotspot---> ac Wi-Fi repeater--->lan to router that I'm testing---> lan to ps4. I'm a day away from bill cycle and at 18 of my 32 gb...But saw this behavior and thought maybe someone knows if this is normal to see while LTE roaming.

  3. Just thought I'd throw this out for folks looking for roaming LTE. I'm visiting McComb, Mississippi and noticed I'm getting LTE on Cspire. Speed are good on download (around 12mbps), but they are atrocious on upload...less than 3.

    I got the email notifier and was wondering..."why sell $7.90 worth of stock..."..

    Food for thought...what if the stock sale is a push to give Sprint a load of cash..Maybe they said the CAPEX was 3bn when in actuality they privately plan to put 10bn in a drastic push to surpass Verizon. It's wishful thinking..

  5. I wish Alabama would get in gear but I'm not sure when we will see any improvement. My area still needs band 26 optimized and the 3rd and final tower turned into LTE. I wish somewhere had 41, or even a second 25 carrier...but we struggle to get decent internet so I can imagine Sprint's headache. I live where two 24pr fiber runs are under my driveway and still the max internet out of the DSLAM next door is 6 meg down. I hope with my close vicinity to the DSLAM that Sprint will approach me for a small cell in my small area.

  6. I'm glad I missed the headset promo (thanks wells Fargo)....now you can get free wireless charging pad from Samsung for adding a card. Added mine the first day wells Fargo was avail but just redeemed promo...it's on the way. I didn't pay attention but I hope it's the fast charge one.

    LG G3

    Hey, I went from g4 to note 5 and I'm not looking back. And I've been a staunch LG supporter since G2. I thought I would be with LG a very long time, but I see that the g5 isn't my cup of tea...I just don't think it would be a phone that I'm really happy with. This note 5 is everything I've been looking for.

    Yup... didn't even know that was a thing for Android until it happened. Can't get past the blue screen so anything I had not on the SD card is gone.

    Went to Sprint today and they too were baffled by it. I wound up getting a Note 5 to replace because the G4 would be a minimum of a week to ship. I will still be tracking this thread because my mom has the G3 too.

    As much as I like the Note 5, I'm already missing my G3. I'm bummed that it did that and it didn't even make it 2 years (July 2016). Maybe I'll get a used one off Swappa so I can still have one... after I recuperate my poor wallet from this unexpected expense.

  7. I guess I should note that I'm asked to do weird things in the name of testing network devices for a few companies...

    There isn't much in the way of settings, aside from VPN, that I haven't tinkered with at one time or another.

    I set up all my routers in the same manner -- and that is from the viewpoint of having a suck-a$$ internet connection.

    So on the router side, I should be as optimized as I can possibly get.

    I only wish AT&T felt the same way and would turn the DSLAM up to max...I could possibly get 12mbps down and 3mbps up..but that's a pipe dream. I'll be stuck with 6mbps down and 0.5mbps up for the next decade or 2.

  8. Well when wifi calling performs as I've shown above, it definitely won't be my preference...and I'll fight to keep my airave if I have to. However, when I called the direct line for airave support, 866.556.7310, they were eager to replace the airave, the ac adapter, or both. It was my decision of whichever one I wanted. I told them I wasn't sure if the ac adapter quit, or the airave itself quit..but it wouldn't come on at all -- no lights.

    After the phone call, I used my fluke to test the ac adapter and it was fine -- still outputting 12.2v (says 12v 2a)..

    So the airave was the culprit and i'm glad I asked for the entire thing to be replaced.

    Looks like I have to call them back and have them turn up the broadcast area. Seems they don't put the replacement under the same provisioning as the original (i had a ticket for my broken one to be turned up..).

  9. I wonder if current customers can also take advantage? Right now I'm on the 32gb shared bucket family...and I got...6 phones and 2 tablets...all of which pull from the 32gb. (I guess it's wasteful b/c the highest I've seen my data go is 17gb in a month..still below the initial 20gb that I moved up from before I got the 32gb plan.)

    I'd like to have one line unlimited...just for giggles...and that way if Sprint ever does away with unlimited, I'd have one line still on it...

  10. Here's the airave hooked up, my SGN5 connected, my LG G4 connected, and my wife's SGN5 connected. I made a VM call with my GN5, other 2 are still idle.

    2r5atc2.jpg

    Here's a call to call with both phones on the Airave (beep when answer). This is from SGN5 to LG G4. I should note that I waited 30 seconds into phone call to refresh the Netgear page so the activity is accurate (on EVERY screenshot...so the phone calls are well established in every screenshot.)

    2vtprth.jpg

    So does this explain why I rather use the airave versus Wifi calling...especially with my sh*tty connection?

    It may not be much difference (well actually in one phone call situation it is a good bit)...but in 2 call situations the airave still doesn't eat as much bandwidth as wifi calling does in just one call. Two phones on airave making a call eats less bandwidth than 1 phone making a wifi call.

  11. So roughly it's 100+ kbps upload, and 100+kbps download to negotiate and keep an active call on wifi calling.

    2 phones on wifi calling each calling their own voicemail didn't make any difference. Stayed at 100 +/- kbps...

    Now as for the quality of each call, I didn't have them trying to talk or listen to each...I sat them both down and made the calls, then checked my router activity via the above screen...which is "Access Control"

  12. This is just with the phone idle on wifi calling, no call in progress.
    My connection / modem setup is as follows:

                                                                                   ----->TP-Link Archer C3200
    DSL Modem ----->Netgear Nighthawk X8(R8500) ----->Airave
                                                                                   ----->Desktop

    This is on a phone wifi call to my voicemail...

    This is on a wifi call to another phone on my account...from my phone.

    Airave data coming. I'm headed to UPS to pick it up now.

  13. Sprint also offers a wifi router that priorities the WiFi calling over other traffic. This may fix you WiFI calling issue. They offer this for free just like the Airave, if you have signal issues.

    No, they don't... I checked into it...it's not available anymore (and I checked back in November.)  I'm thinking they didn't have the affect they were hoping for. As for the data...I'm sizing the pics now to post.

  14. I guess you're missing something..because I've had an airave since the very first one hit the market back in 08..and had Samsung branding on it. And the same sh*tty connection that I've always had. I know what works, and the airave is better than wifi calling. The current airave supports 6 simultaneous connections....3 voice calls and 3 data sessions.

    While the airave is designed to handle just traffic from a phone (read:femtocell), wifi calling has to battle with everything else on the network and is subject to any other traffic that might be happening at that time.  While the real-world application differs from the "it's supposed to" application, I have no problem using 2-3 lines at once on the airave, while I have issues using just 1 line on wifi calling and nothing else can happen while that wifi call is in progress. Once the airave gets here, I'll be glad to post some screens from my Nighthawk X8 (R8500) router with wifi calling while in a call, then post a screen of the airave traffic while in a call...

    I already know which one eats up the most...but if it'll help anyone understand what I'm saying, so be it.

  15. Yeah, at my house.

    And mainly the reason I don't want to use wifi calling and use the airave is because I can't. When you have 4 devices ...or even 2 devices on wifi calling at the same time and you have a 511kbps upload speed, it tends to make it not worth even hitting the "call" button.

    For a single device, Wifi calling is fine, but once you get past that amount, you can't make phone calls if someone is 1)uploading photos/vids to cloud, 2)watching anything streaming, 3)listening to music streaming, 4)considering a google search, 5)having a thought process that involves anything internet-related...

    It'd be great if i had another option, but I don't.

  16. I had started wondering when I was on my G4 why it was doing speedtests that were 5mbps down / 2mbps up..

    Then I just decided it was the area and maybe more people using Sprint.

    Now that I've done it with the Note 5 in the same locations, I'm seeing 18+mbps down / 9+mbps up...

    Seems like the throughput of the Note5 is better than the G4..

    I dunno why, but it's sure happening, every time I test.
