Sprint could use both the customers and the spectrum. While I was hoping for a bigger buy I hope this is only the beginning. 2.5 billion is still left so whats next

Sprint has said they aren't releasing anymore WiMax devices. And why isn't it referenced as an Epic 4G Touch? I wouldn't hold my breath. Why, indeed.

The naming convention makes sense with samsung wanting a stronger brand for the galaxy line. The price cards in stores now show only galacy s 2 and not epic 4g touch

Didnt sprint say no new wimax devices? Or maybe since it is only a new color then its not a new device?

The providence market which is the state of rhode island has something like 141 sprint towers.

I kinda wish they would just rip the band aid off and shut it down, but I can understand why they are waiting. 60% recapture rate is pretty good reason to not force them off.
The sprint network can not handle all the iden customers at once. That is why the process is being dragged out.

Really? They told me the exact opposite; restock on return, NOT on exchange.
They were probably upset about the return and wanted to be spiteful or maybe it was an honest mistake.

It was the 14th day; got money back minus $35 restock fee.
A corporate store should only charge restock fees when you exchange and not on returns.

Data sessions do play a factor into things on all phones. I run a very lean setup. No htc weather, no spacebook, no teeter totter, no auto Sync Gmail or other email, etc.. You get the point. It still had the issue. Hell I get stuck on 1x sometimes and have to toggle dance.

I have spoken to many people recently who have had their phones going to 1x and sometimes getting stuck. I think that is a network thing as i have seen it across many models.

I took a 180 when I made two trips to Houston. 100% upgrades in a market really isn't going to make a difference. Sprint doesn't have 100% coverage everywhere. The problem will still be there. I was in an area with good coverage and the issue still existed. It is less of an issue of course but still very noticeable.
Unfortunately the majority of the users either don't care or must have drank that new network koolaid sprint gave them, so I am just going to shut my mouth about it and focus on getting my phone swapped out.

I loved my evo lte but live in a town with good lte coverage and got tired of it never connecting. With the s3 that is no longer a problem but it is harder to type in the s3 for some reason...

You may want to see if a manager at a Sprint store can switch you out for an S3. I cant' check ATM (nor could I tell you if I did, NDAs and all that), but If I were a betting man, I'd put money on you being able to swap models after getting multiple exchanges. Comparable device features, after all.
After three evos a local sprint store did switch me to an s3 they said it was on the exchange list

Hello,
Lately, I've noticed that my OG Evo running CM 7.2 is dropping into 1x in areas that were previously 3G. Going into Airplane mode (or waiting for what I assume is a tower switch will put it back into 3G. I've read some posts here that seem to indicate (at least to me) that it is the phone that determines what signal to use. What are the conditions that must be met for the signal change to be made? What would be causing my phone to drop into 1x more than it used to? To be honest, I've been meaning to learn more about this for a while, so having this issue seems like a great time to start.
Thanks for all your hard work here, and I love the site.
You are not alone. My evo lte and my gs3 are doing the same thing ib Massachusetts. Not sure what the cause is but so far ni tickets are open. You can call care and have them open one.

I'm aware of that. What I dont know is if that is the situation here considering that softbank is already carrying a $10 billion dollar debt. http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/10/12/us-sprint-softbank-idUSBRE89A0I520121012
I had not seen that article. That would be a lot of debt to carry on your balance sheet. Son must believe that the price he is getting Sprint for is too good to pass up. High debt right after a merger does happen-ATT was going to finance 23 billion of the 39 billion to buy T-Mobile if I remember correctly. They better have a good plan to bring in a lot of revenue to pay it off. Let's hope for great news when Sprint releases 3rd quarter earnings. Are we in for a bit of a surprise? Last quarter nearly all their loss was attributable to iden costs. Maybe a very small loss or small profit this quarter?

Read somewhere that softbank is trying to borrow 23 billion to finance the deal. If they are simply trying to use somebody else's money then its no big deal. But if they don't have the cash on hand and they have to finance the deal then this could be a big negative.
It's very common for companies to finance large deals. They don't want to deplete cash reserves for many reasons. One being that often debt securities require a certain amount of cash and equivalents to be kept.

To expand on this, maybe more random corporations should buy into wireless. Chrysler Cellular? Frito-Lay Mobility? Before you know it, even some electrical utility company in the South would have its own wireless division.

AFAIK, iDEN thinning has already been completed. I don't believe there will be another wave until it's shut off completely. Don't quote me on that, of course.
You are correct. The thinning was a one time project that is now complete. No new decommissions until shut down in June.

And only about 100 legacy nextel sites are being converted. 800 overlay will go on existing sites but I don't think we have a list as to which ones.

welp i got kicked outta the store for calling the tech and manager morons but with a choice word before it lol.
these jokers tryed telling me the evo cant connect to lte because........................wait...........................wait......................its not an lte capable phone only the ip5, s3, and viper are lte phones in sprints line up. i had to laugh but then i guess i got a little too agressive with my wording when telling them they were morons and that even the name of the phone is the evo 4glte.
What store was this?

It is not just happening in weak areas though. My EVO still has to cycle airplane mode to pick up LTE signals even in strong areas.

I am really thinking about switching to another device. I'm really disappointed because other then the data issues I really love this phone.
Me too. I will probably stick with it til the note 2 comes out.

Sprint to buy spectrum, customers from USCC
in General Topics
Posted
Does the amount seem low to anyone? Even ignoring spectrum 480000000 divided by 585000 customers is only 820 bucks per postpaid customer. Sprints normal cpga (cost per gross add) has to be maybe 450 to 500(just a guess but I think that is close). So say 500 times 585000 is a cost of 292500000. That means sprint paid 187500000 for the spectrum. What does that equal for mhz cost per pop?
