What makes you believe they are in denial? I am willing to wait for another radio update but if they think there is no problem I will bother them until they give me a different device.

Sprint is at least in denial. I spoke to a person who is the escalated contact for service and repair stores (yes he really is I pinky swear) in New England and I asked him about this issue. He stated the last update fixed the issue which I politely disagreed with. I did convince him to pass this up the chain but will anything come of it?

  2. I also have an HTC EVO 4G LTE. I have not picked up a 4g signal once; I live in Westie, travel around Norwood on weekends, and work at Copley Square. I ensured I have my CDMA/LTE setting on, and have gone in/out of airplane mode a few times. Never seen the LTE pop up on my screen. Sigh.

I had the same problem and had my EVO replaced. Now I can get a LTE signal! Woo hoo!

  3. Also...I just want to remind everyone. I am all for spirited and factual debates about iPhone, Android, WP and all. However, let's keep things calm and focus on points. I've heard some really good conversations the past few days that were very rational in discussing real points and limitations of both OS'es and their hardware. And I've seen and partaken in some great debates about it.

However, most of us are above average intelligence wireless enthusiasts. We can deliver well thought out arguments and well explained counter points. Let's keep above the fray.

iPhone users are welcome at S4GRU. We are not an Android forum. We can discuss both, in the context of our mission. I would appreciate if both sides could help me strike the balance at S4GRU. I thank you all in advance.

Most of us? Who are you leaving out of that category? ;)

  4. And to think I was tossing and turning over whether to get to the Evo LTE or the S3... The original Evo was so good that I thought the LTE version would be awesome, but I went with the S3 for the doubled RAM and developer support since so many people have it. I'm really glad I did seeing as the Evo LTE seems to be really badly affected by radio problems.

I am waiting to hear back from a local repair store to see if they will swap my EVO for an s3.

  5. we are in same neighborhood,, you sure you're lte radio is on? It's in and out right now but it was very strong near the cvs.

    EVO-LUTION 4G LTE

Oh yes I am sure. I have been to the tower at exit 3 on 95 as well to check and nothing so far. I will be by CVS again later this evening and will try again. Maybe defective LTE radio. I have toggled LTE/ cdma and airplane mode and nada...I do have lte record listed in ##data# though so maybe its not defective and I am just impatient.

Unfortunately, I'm not in a position for a trial. I have to sell my current devices to cover cost of subsidized units, and my window to exit Sprint without fees is on the 21st, iPhone 5 launch day.

I do suspect we will see an incrimental increase in our data usage due to speed upgrade. If I do switch, I am willing to deal with the inconvience of having to monitor a few billing cycles and adjust if needed.

Why is your window the 21st? If you are out of contract then it will stay that way unless you do something to renew. I don't understand the timecrunch you mention. Contracts don't auto renew...

  8. The iPhone 4/4S has external antennas (the silver bands around the edges of the device). While these antennas have been problematic, as they can easily be shorted by contact with human skin, they likely do provide a link budget (i.e. transmission/reception) advantage. And knowing how overly litigious Apple can be, it probably would sue the pants off of any other OEM that built a smartphone with external antennas.

That makes sense and I should have put 2 and 2 together as I am aware of the external antenna. Face palm. Thanks for the input.

  9. I have gotten to the point where I would like some help with a question. Is the antenna in the 4s superior in performance to the new LTE devices such as the S3 and EVO LTE? My wife has a 4s and i have both an S3 and EVO LTE and she is able to use her phone in buildings around town where I can't and she consistently gets better reception. My house sits about 900 feet from a NV tower (3g and 4g work done but LTE currently blocked) and on my wife's phone she always has full signal (I don't know of a way to get the actual dcBm reading on her phone) while my S3 and EVO LTE hover between -98 and -84 dBm (mostly -98). While on vacation in PA she was always able to roam with decent reception (2-3 bars) where I would get 0-1. I really prefer Android to iOS but am getting to the point where I am going to buy an iPhone so that I can use my phone in places that she is able to. Anyone (WiWavelength, digiblur, robert etc) able to shed some light on this? Thanks for any info anyone can provide.
