  1. That is correct. anything north of that is a dead zone, until you get to Pace RD. From Denton/Berkley intersection, just north of that maybe 1/2 mile is Lake Myrtle Sports Complex. If no one is there I might be able to get service that is extremely slow, but once you add in the hundreds of other people that go, Sprint becomes nonexistent.

I kind of figured that. I really don't know many others around here. I'm tempted to make some signs and take them to the soccer field one weekend asking people to make reports, LOL!

Service at the house is bad, but I have wifi, so it isn't a big deal. It's just once I leave the house and do anything around here is where the issue is at. Even if it doesn't get fixed I'm keeping Sprint. It would just be nice to have coverage since I have 2 towers near me that provide service, and a 3rd maybe 5-7 miles away.

Small world though. I used to live on Lake Ariana and know the area quite well.

  2. I will offer something of a counterpoint.

I am not defending Gary Forsee. I do not care at all to support or criticize the guy, am just presenting a neutral observation.

What if, by way of the Nextel merger, which came under his watch, Forsee and Sprint fell ass backward into a treasure trove of spectrum? Low band SMR 800 MHz. And especially droves of high band BRS/EBS 2600 MHz spectrum -- but soon to be considered mid band spectrum, relative to LTE-U, EHF, VLC, etc.

That is not so bad. Forsee may be the "Seinfeld" Kramer of Sprint. Initially, a doofus. But his bets pay off later.

In fact, I have heard that Forsee is working on a coffee table book about coffee tables. Or a rubber bladder system to prevent spills from oil tankers.

    AJ

I swear that the last time I saw Forsee he was wearing a puffy shirt

  3. While I appreciate people posting articles here for the sake of information, at least, I have to say that this article was pretty shocking to me, in the sense that it made me think very differently about Marcelo Claure and the direction of Sprint. I can't say this was great though, despite my appreciation for the post, as my changed outlook now isn't so good now.

What I mean is not meant to be harsh criticism towards Sprint, which I recognize the achievements made to its network, etc., but I can't help thinking Marcelo doesn't have much a clue about his customers, despite his career position, business successes, etc. His perspective about them based on the rating system he gave, while in concept good, he is really, very off on how he is using it to such a major degree, in my opinion. He stated that a 7 rating was good at one point in the article, then bad in another. A 7 rating for any type of business, that is if 10 is best, 1 is the worst (I'll retract my thoughts on this if he meant 10 as being the worst, though I'm thinking he meant otherwise, being 10 at best), then a 7 is pretty darn good, even a 5 which he seems very disappointed with. A 5 rating means average, 7, if 10 is best, is very good, which in that case, Marcelo should be happy.

The other thing is how he didn't mention anyone telling him less than 5. Again, no offense to Sprint, especially for the achievements it has made, as I stated earlier, but there still is such a major issue with its past reputation that I can't believe he didn't meet anyone with a less than a 5 rating. I'm not saying I think there ought to be many of those, which certainly the improvements it has made ought to improve its reputation.

I mean no offense, as I've said, just thinking about those "what-ifs" that this article got me thinking about.

He uses a net promoter system for those ratings which is common in many fields. In this case a score of 7 is neutral and to be a net promoter he needs a score of 9 or 10.

  4. Well...there goes the idea that Verizon will sit out the 600 MHz auction after today's article even though Verizon is more interested in AWS spectrum at this point. Not surprised that Verizon would take any chance to gobble up any remaining low band spectrum that would be available in a long time. AT&T will most likely participate in the auction to keep up with Verizon and Tmobile is confirmed to be in the auction. We will see in several years how the long term strategy decision for Sprint to skip the 600 MHz auction pays off. It just feels weird that Sprint is so confident in their low band spectrum portfolio that they don't need to add 600 MHz to their portfolio.

Obviously Marcelo has a different opinion than Dan Hesse has on the need for low band spectrum to Sprint's spectrum portfolio because I remember Hesse pushing hard for regulation

While the official story is that they feel their spectrum position is adequate I have no doubt that the true motivation is one of cost cutting and Masa/BOD not approving the expenditure.

  5. I was at the Big E state fair in Springfield MA Sunday night on Band 41. They must of had some issues because I couldn't make a phone call or use my data. My phone and my wife's was useless. Verizons worked fine. Can't imagine the crowd being that crazy to saturate everything. Crazy bad network management or didn't they plan for that? Past year has been really interesting.

I went to the big e last saturday and had the same issues. Data was slow but usable while calls and text were nonexistent

  6. I generally use my phone in the Worcester/Boxborough/Boston route. I am always getting crappy upload speeds. No matter where I go I can't get above 5mb/s. Its always at .5 to 3 90% of the time. Is spark this slow? I am using a brand new note 5 and thought the upload would be a bit better than this. 3g is completely unusable other than making a phone call. Is anyone else getting poor upload speeds? The signal bar bounces like crazy at times. Using Tapatalk takes 3+ seconds for a simple post.

I am pretty familiar with the Worcester area as far as network goes. There is a decent amount of carrier aggregation but there are definately some 3g holes. Where are you having the most issues?

  7. You sure that's CA? I've gotten speeds as high as 72 Mb per second for downlink and usually get around 10 to 13 Mb per second on my iPhone 6

Yes i am-most of the towers in my area have ca on them though i did not screenshot my engineering screen. Also this tower is in the top third for data traffic in the boston market so it is a fairly heavily used one. Before ca it would generally get 15-25 down on 2.5.

  8. If Softbank were to get to 85 percent and they were obligated to buy the rest-how would it work if they broke Sprint up into pieces and sold it off? Say they sold the real estate and network hardware, patents, the spectrum etc...Is it possible they see this as the best way to recoup money? I am ignorant here and tbis may not even be possible. I sincerely hope the thought never even crossed Masa's mind.

  9. Interesting... I was taking a look at T-Mobile's preliminary results for customer adds in Q2, and their postpaid net phone adds dropped from 991,000 to 760,000, and postpaid mobile broadband net additions jumped from 134,000 to 248,000. If you ask me, that looks like they are "padding" lower phone adds with higher mobile broadband adds.

I have not verified this but I was told that T Mobile is counting migrations from their prepaid to post paid as post acts. This is one way they are able to put up the numbers they have.

  10. Legere's still done more. Plus Masa has connects to him as well. My fear is Marcelo would look at any transition and decide he'd have more fun running a soccer team somewhere.

Legere has also been in his position longer. And John would look at any transition and decide he'd have more fun running a hair styling product company somewhere. ;)

  11. So it looks like it happened again this morning. This time I got a screenshot. So the error message is "Unable to install Sprint Default ." Unfortunately, it doesn't look like it's in the Play Store, and I have no idea where "Manage Packs" would be.

Also, it does show the Google Now Launcher in the background, but after I click cancel, when I press the home button, it goes to the LG home screen and I have to re-set Google Now as my main launcher. Pressing Retry will retry and fail and come back to this screen.

I'll be posting this to Sprint and LG to see if they know of the issue, but I'm hoping one of you guys happen to have run into this at some point, whether on this phone or another one.

The issue may be sprint id. This usually installs during activation but sometimes errors out and causes the issue you are seeing. You can do a factory reset which should fix the issue.

  12. I still have major issues inside and am getting B41 90% of the time anywhere I go in NYC...

Getting tons of dropped calls in my house and all the bands are heavily around me, so are there any options for me at this point?

I have noticed that after a tower is upgraded to band 41 it is not uncommon to have a period of increased dropped calls and sms issues for anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months. Does switching to cdma only help?
