I don't think it's the resources anymore at this point.. Sprint has enough spectrum to where they won't need as many tower to bring capacity to certain areas.. I think it's SoftBank not fully 100% confident/behind Sprint to fully go at it alone...and Sprint brand image.. I think that's about it really .. the network will tag along piece by piece.. imo

Didn’t sprint admit they won’t be able to compete without the merger?

Looking back on it... I’m moving closer to that position.

He was the CEO. He knew before anyone else that this wasn’t going to happen the way he said.

He has reams of market data, reports and competitive intelligence at his disposal.

    He knew.

Of course he knew. Ultimately Dan Hesse truly had  a vision for Sprint. Him and Masa had two different visions so which is why he stepped down (or forced out).

I really want this merger to go through so Sprint customers can stop suffering from poor leadership.

Ive been with T-Mobile for almost a month now and I love it.

I read the portion of the filing that is being referenced in the article and it makes it seem as though both Sprint and T-Mobile are in a dire position. It's funny that despite all that has been stated, both carriers have 5G plans going out at least 6 years from now prepared already, should they be forced to operate separately.

The main issue presented is that Sprint can't deploy 2.5GHz 5G in rural areas because they don't have the money to do so. The only way to get more money is to have more customers. Because of Sprint's poor network perception, the only way for Sprint to get new customers is to lower prices. And because of low prices, Sprint can't make as much money off of their customers so they're stuck in a loop.

T-Mobile on the other hand has the money to build a broad 5G network over 600MHz, but they don't have the spectrum to provide 5G speeds like Sprint can. So they'll be able to claim the title of the largest 5G network by square mileage but with speeds that aren't much better than current LTE speeds. Sprint will a larger network capable of providing faster speeds. Basically, T-Mobile won't be able to compete effectively in the 5G space in terms of offering "true 5G experience" to their customers until they can get everyone off of LTE which isn't happening soon.

The solution is that in merging, the New T-Mobile will be able to deploy 2.5GHz over a large area so that more people can have access to those higher speeds that they wouldn't get by 600MHz only or because of Sprint's smaller network.

In the event the merger doesn’t go through, do you think Sprint will sell some of its band 41 spectrum to T-Mobile? since Sprint needs the $ and T-Mobile needs the high-band spectrum

Yeah, Dish could have invested all that money that they invested in spectrum on Sprint's network instead. They could have brought the AWS-4 25x20 band of spectrum to sprint to strengthen Sprint's midband position, they would not have needed to bid on the AWS-3 auction and they could have probably acquired a 10x10 band of 600MHz.

Yup and we could have Sling for free lol

That’s dope. I’m glad it’s worked out for you and to be able fully utilize your device with the VoLTE and stuff. You’ll be right back on B41 next year like you never left. I’m sure T-Mobile will really put it to use.

Yup I can’t wait. Luckily Sprint has a good amount b41 deployed in urban areas. So I would assume T-Mobile will have to do a carrier update for their phones that are b41 capable.

Now they are trying to sell this merger so they are painting the financial situation as bleak as possible but I have long said that Sprint is not sustainable on its own without some major investment by their parent who was unwilling to invest in it. I almost wish that Dish had acquired them.

Looking back I wish Dish acquired Sprint too. I think the two would have been great since they could offer many services to consumers and not to mention Dish had a good amount of Spectrum at that time.

What Sprint and T-Mobile are trying to accomplish right now is what Dish and Sprint could have done years ago.

I skimmed the report and alot of good things were said said that made me excited for the merger. I don't want Sprint to go but it was really a eye opener as to the state of Sprint and their network going forward.  I would like to keep my plan but worse case if I can't i'll just jump onto my T-mobile One All In promo plan that I currently pay for my parents which would be an extra $35 per month.

That’s why I didn’t get to excited with Sprints network announcements. I had a feeling something was trouble. I’m sad to see them go but Band 41 will live on forever!!!

  8. I made the switch to T-Mobile and I’m very impressed with their service. I can only imagine what the combine network will feel like.

all of that tea is concerning. I feel betrayed lol. They basically said their network won’t be as good to what they claim it will be months ago. Sprint needs the merger. Whether it’s with T-Mobile or Dish or whoever. Sprint had a good run though.

I just wanted to ask with the merger still on going..how far behind is sprint still ? I can only speak for my market and although sprint is moving here with upgrades they still lack density in the area.. sprint announcing a few more 5G markets.. means they are seeing the plan through .. which in any case they would have to Incase the merger doesn't get approved. What are sprint current pops on LTE without any roaming

Not sure how far back they are but I don’t expect them to slow down “5G Market Announcements” (Massive Mimo rollouts) since it benefits both Sprint and New T-Mobile’s future.

Good idea regarding Dish as the 4th carrier, though even better I think would be if The New T-Mobile were to get Dish, then merge all of the prepaid carriers into a Dish mvno to compete against Xfinity mobile.

Lol I don’t think New T-Mobile will be able to get Dish at this point. I can see T-Mobile going after Dish if the merger doesn’t go through.

Who knows Verizon might buy Dish

Sprint was on its way out of business when Masa bought it. Unfortunately, he kept it in purgatory for years, while he spent billions on other investments like ARM, Boston Robotics, etc.

I don't want this merger to go through. There need to be 4 major carriers to preserve competition.

I think Guenther saw the writing on the wall. Perhaps he knew there wasn't a place for him down the road.

Sprint was capable of doing this without T-Mobile. It had finally hit its stride... and then suddenly this happens.

I want the merger to go through because I’m tired of the lack of commitments from Masa Son. If it doesn’t go through I can see it now “Sprint is recommitted to have the best Network in 2-3 years” and within that time frame Son will try to sell Sprint off. It’s a never ending cycle that’s been going on 4-5. This merger will put all that nonsense to rest.

if they want this merger to go through then NewCo needs to “create” the 4th competitor. They can offer Dish Network the sites they are decommissioning, NewCo can put those antennas on existing sites they plan to keep.

im not sure if Dish’s spectrum is capable of Mobile 5G but if it is then it’s a plus because then they are creating the second “mobile 5G” carrier

For what it's worth 3 more cities were added in the past week to the list of cities getting massive MIMO antennas so I guess I'm more optimistic about work continuing as normal.

I agree. Sprint's primary network focus should be deploying massive mimo. I don't know if they will continue the "triband every tower" rollout though since a lot will be decommissioned.

What they did in Wyoming alone should be good news for network enthusiasts. They didn't wait around for fiber or microwave backhaul. They went in and used Satellite backhaul throughout the entire state. They were determined to get a native network deployed at all costs.

Of course ping times are terrible, but it definitely beats roaming. Satellite backhaul will do for now until they can hire crews to install proper backhaul.

really? what are the pings like? are there any videos i can watch
